@Meade, you'd be welcome to stop by my house next time you're near Winchester. I'll supply the tools and mulch if you don't mind teaching me how to work your magic.
There's a North Dakota ham contest, and ND is my one missing state, so I thought Great, fill out the flag.
I haven't heard a single ND station all day.
There's also a MI ham contest and an Ontario ham contest. I hear lots of those.
There's also lightning crashes over Iowa making it harder.
Actually I hear only northern MI. Southern MI is too close and nothing lands there.
Could/would Meade provide a list of bulbs, plantings, annuals, perrenials, pellegrinos, perreginos, he plants or likes/recommends? Signed, a gardener from across the water always looking for guidance on the first great Saturday this Spring
The failed Korean missile launch will lead to a few heads rolling.
"The failed Korean missile launch will lead to a few heads rolling."
Literally.
Trump is going to be finished next Sunday, April 23. The front page of NYT, WashPost, and other blogs will bury him.
Already everyone is planning to showcase the Saturday, April 22, DC protest and all global protests. Any sign making Trump look foolish and bad for US will be shown.
Watch Trump explode. Week after next is going to be worse week for him.
Prediction: Trump will not run again. He will not survive the 2018 midterms, when GOP lose both House and Senate.
There I saw one I knew, and stopped him, crying: “Stetson!
“You who were with me in the ships at Mylae!
“That corpse you planted last year in your garden,
“Has it begun to sprout? Will it bloom this year?
“Or has the sudden frost disturbed its bed?
“Oh keep the Dog far hence, that’s friend to men,
“Or with his nails he’ll dig it up again!
And from "Il Miglior Fabbr0":
I dug the ell-square pitkin;
Poured we libations unto each the dead,
First mead and then sweet wine, water mixed with white flour.
Then prayed I many a prayer to the sickly death’s-heads;
As set in Ithaca, sterile bulls of the best
For sacrifice, heaping the pyre with goods,
A sheep to Tiresias only, black and a bell-sheep.
Dark blood flowed in the fosse,
Souls out of Erebus, cadaverous dead, of brides
Of youths and of the old who had borne much;
Souls stained with recent tears, girls tender,
Men many, mauled with bronze lance heads,
Battle spoil, bearing yet dreory arms,
These many crowded about me; with shouting,
Pallor upon me, cried to my men for more beasts;
Slaughtered the herds, sheep slain of bronze;
Poured ointment, cried to the gods,
To Pluto the strong, and praised Proserpine;
Unsheathed the narrow sword,
I sat to keep off the impetuous impotent dead,
Till I should hear Tiresias.
But first Elpenor came, our friend Elpenor,
Unburied, cast on the wide earth,
Limbs that we left in the house of Circe,
Unwept, unwrapped in sepulchre, since toils urged other.
Pitiful spirit. And I cried in hurried speech:
“Elpenor, how art thou come to this dark coast?
“Cam’st thou afoot, outstripping seamen?”
And he in heavy speech:
“Ill fate and abundant wine. I slept in Circe’s ingle.
“Going down the long ladder unguarded,
“I fell against the buttress,
“Shattered the nape-nerve, the soul sought Avernus.
“But thou, O King, I bid remember me, unwept, unburied,
“Heap up mine arms, be tomb by sea-bord, and inscribed:
“A man of no fortune, and with a name to come.
“And set my oar up, that I swung mid fellows.”
Holy shiit I forgot to start learning to play again.
I bought it for $59 free shipping.
But it was on ebay.
So no benefit to y'all.
Why am I saying this?
Who whom am I?
Hail, Ragnar!
I am glad I could, and ergo can, of course, trust folks posting pics up round in here this joint, cause that sure looks a lot to me like a negro with an afro being cool, square via symmetry being, lips made to Experience as Ike taught us Jimi could.
Since the Althousians discussed the Wisconsin Weirdo, aka Jacob Jakubowski, I thought you might want to know that he's been arrested:
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-wisconsin-crime-idUSKBN17G13C
He was taken into custody without incident hours after a farmer called the Vernon County Sheriff's Office on Thursday night to report a suspicious person on his property in Readstown, Wisconsin.
"He gave up peacefully. There was an overwhelming force there. I think he knew what he was facing,” Vernon County Sheriff John Spears said at a briefing, who said the suspect had been surrounded by 100 to 125 law enforcement officers.
Overkill? Rational force? You be the judge.
America's Politico has been dead on you guys.

Today the Obstructors protested against Trump and in favor of the IRS.
Somebody isn't thinking this through.

This is a link to text y'all ought find so mesmerizing as to consider your entire life and reconsider what if not, for some, like golf, but with dogs
If North Korea wanted to reduce tensions, wouldn't staging a botched missile test do the trick? They get to keep on saying that they defiantly went ahead with the test, the rest of the world feels less worried about North Korean nuclear capability, and everyone goes home happy.
What's not to like?
There are only two words that mattyer in all of cinema: Wartime Consigliereie.
All else is foppish puffed up dandies.
The redwood fence looks new. Do they make good neighbors?
This doesn't exclude the actor playing that or those actors playing those roles from the categorgy nothing else matters, because only the words matter, not them or any of us save our children.

This from one who assured us that Hillary was inevitable in 2016. This is from someone who got the 2010 and 2014 mid-terms so wrong that he slunk away afterwards each time for months. Just sayin'
But contrarianism is an art form at Althouse. I understand that. Without the likes of AP, it'd be just another boring echo chamber.
"The failed Korean missile launch will lead to a few heads rolling."
Literally.
Pudgy Kim has used Mortars, burning gasoline, and dogs to execute people. But lately he seems to have settled on anti-aircraft artillery. So the heads won't be rolling exactly. More like flying.
So I'm watching this Russian series on Amazon Prime. It's called "The Dawns Here Are Quiet." It's the Great Patriotic War, and Fedot, a gunnery sergeant in a quiet, rural sector near the Front, has to manage all the young girl soldiers they send him to man the Ak-Ak batteries.
I believe that the nude sauna scenes are both historically accurate and necessary to advance the plot. In the sauna, the naked girls beat other with birch branches dipped in water. I thought that was just a Finlander thing, so, you see, already I am learning things from this series.
I always thought America's Politico was satire...
The line between clever satire and gross stupidity is so fine.
I believe that the nude sauna scenes are both historically accurate and necessary to advance the plot.
Even though I haven't seen this series and really know nothing about Russian culture... I have to agree.
Poor Fedot. He keeps trying to make soldiers of the girls, but they keep giggling, and picking flowers, and hanging their lingerie to dry where he can see it. They cannot even make commando hand signals properly.
But they hate Germans, and that is a good start.

But there's a reason why satire doesn't really fly in the comments here.
A very large phallic sundial would work in the Meadehouse backyard, centered in the middle of that leaf pile.
In the second episode of "The Dawns here are Quiet," after hiking through a muddy swamp, the girl soldiers bathe naked beneath a waterfall. It is very tastefully done.

"Do they make good neighbors?"
I cannot imagine better neighbors. They rule, and they lend us their dog.
Druid ceremonies in the back yard.
Ann Althouse said...I cannot imagine better neighbors. They rule, and they lend us their dog.
I thought that might be Zeus's home and I vaguely recall an adorable video you once posted of Zeus running from that house to greet Meade. How does Zeus deal with fences?
"Druid ceremonies in the back yard."
Seems a better fit than the mini mountain bike track that we're told exists there, somehow.
America's Politico is actually Zeus.
Seems a better fit than the mini mountain bike track that we're told exists there, somehow.
That ran clockwise, IIRC, which is just a mechanized version of my phallic sundial.
Plus, also. Take your angel in for a makeover this year.
Gold leaf.
It would last in your neighborhood.
Or maybe just a nice powder coat white.
With lasers in its eyes.
That new fence represents the Californication of Wisconsin. I grew up about 7 miles west of where Althouse's photo was taken. Such unfenced backyards allowed games of football across adjacent neighboring backyards. Only two or three allowed the necessary length. Of course it helped to have actual kids living in the attendant houses.
What sort of privacy issues are being addressed by such fences? Animal control? Backyard nudity? Robert Frost nostalgia?
Zeus might have a "record".

Americas Political satire? I always thought he was a first year poli sci student polishing his writing skills under the tutelage of a commie-pinko perfessor.
I always assumed that AP was a spoof account, on of it being so ridiculous, but since whoever is writing it seems to be tuned into when lefties are planning their next big march, I came to question it. If it is satire, which it works as no matter the intent, good on him for putting in the research into the leftie hive-mind.
I have to agree with chickelit to, if he was here for our entertainment, he has missed a lot of mileage by dropping his Baghdad Bob routine after the election. Still, I get a kick out of his comments.
Ingmar Bergman Unfinished Script “Wheat and Oranges” —Excerpt”
“Olaf, I see that you have built a fence around your simple home."
“Yes, Sven. I have indeed built a fence."
"But why, Olaf? You have nothing worth stealing, except for a few radishes."
"It is to keep people away, Sven. People are best left unseen, to die alone in the snow, lost and forsaken."
"I don't know, Olaf. If I were to see a man dying in the snow I would think to help him. to bring him inside and feed him warm turnip soup in front of the fire."
"And that is why you will die miserable, Sven. My fireplace is not big enough to warm strangers."
"But surely God will condemn you for your inaction, Olaf."
"God, Sven? You are such a child. Do you think that by saving a man God might then favor you with an orange or a sheaf of wheat? I pity your foolishness."
"I would not need reward to save a man, Olaf. A word of Thanks from the poor soul would be Thanks enough."
"Oh, naive Sven. Sure, the man might thank you at first, but then he will grow to despise you."
"Despise me, Olaf?"
"All men grow to despise their saviors, Sven. You have only given him more Time of Loss and Grief. Oh, how he will hate you for that."
"That is bleak, Olaf."
"The Universe is bleak, Sven. In this World only the Dog is truly happy."
"I DO love dogs, Olaf..."
"But even the Dog will run afoul of the wolves, Sven. His happiness comes from not knowing this."
“You have given me much to think about, Olaf. Perhaps I shall wander out into the snowy forest and lose my way, beneath an uncaring sky.”
“Good night, Sven. And remember: close the Gate behind you..."
I am Laslo.
I got rather an extended IRL chuckle out of that one, Laslo.
I like to picture Althouse and Meade, drinking their morning beverages and reciting aloud Olaf and Sven.
Althouse would be Olaf.
Meade would be Sven.
The thought makes me happy.
I am Laslo.
First Laslo's post, then I see a tweet of one of those "Antifa" little brownshirts sent to disrupt the pro-Trump demonstration being administered a wedgie. Mirth everywhere this morning!
Blind squirrel Andrew Sullivan digs, finds nut:
That no federal cops were involved and there is no actual evidence at all of police harassment of Asian-Americans is irrelevant — it’s all racism, all the time, everywhere in everything.
"Blunder"? How do we know it's a blunder?

Nice work, Laslo! And very perceptive. ;-)

Nice poem, but you're only supposed to rhyme a word with itself in limericks.
To pass along to Meade: have you ever tried growing tricytris in Madison? The yard does have a woodland feel - I am absolutely mad about these flowers. Worthwhile to plant where you can see them up close. Some of the most spectacular of woodland flowers.

Why have I never thought of that?
