A mad eccentric attaching himself to an ideological movement. Quite a thing in Russia, historically. Even the self-mutilation is historical. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skoptsy
Russians play for keeps. Even their performance artists play for keeps.
C'mon, admit it. There's not one guy reading this whose 'nads didn't hurt a little when you read the part about the guy nailing his scrotum to the wall. Gives new meaning to the phrase "balls to the wall".
Passersby = people on their way to do real things, needed things, things that help someone: work, gathering, earning, delivering. If you want to suffer for others, maybe pick something up and DO something. Sweat, get dirty, let your self-absorption disappear in the smoke of action, and the dust of change by actually making something better. Pick up the damned trash.
I'm not critiquing this particular guy or his issue, but the whole art as social protest, especially the performance type is getting old. It usually comes from a place of how can I get them to look at me, talk about me, tell me I'm noble.
Lazlo, you are probably right. Too lazy to deal with it. Or perhaps not wanting to. Based on the photo, it's unsurprising that nobody acted aggressively towards him. This is a guy who nailed himself to a wall by his scrotum. Right now I am whimpering over a bad case of jock itch.

Hot Russian jailer at the link is clearly a Laslo character waiting to happen.
Russian soul is a long suffering soul. It's an Orthodox thing.

this is interesting enough to comment on, but I really don't know what to say.

Dig deeper, man, dig deeper!
I am Laslo.
If one's lips are sewn shut, it generally impedes conversation with passersby? Won't read the article - I'm fed up with this sort of thing.
This guy is dealing with real issues and real oppression. I have respect for what he is doing.
Dude! Get a life.
