"Law professors seek to have Kellyanne Conway disbarred for bringing 'shame upon the legal profession.'"

"Here’s the actual letter, complete with the names of the law professors who have disgraced themselves. But if you want to establish a rule like this for all lawyers in the public eye, well, enjoy it. Sauce for the goose, and all that."

Are they proposing mass disbarment? We will disbar lawyers who are felons first? We should keep in mind lawyers are only here because there jobs americans just won't do.

There are more lawyers than rats. There are some things rats just won't do. And the researchers grow attached to the rats.

Are any of these idiot Law Professors actual clients of Ms. Conway?

If not, then no bleeping duty.

Also, these idiot Law Professors are sexist for trying to derail our first successful female Presidential Campaign Manager in history.

So they are like Bull Connor blocking the doorway of our finest Law Schools or something.

We should disbar these ambulance-chasing Law Professors for their sheer stupidity. Ipso Facto.

The decency level in the Resistence also smeared Alan Colmes before his family got him buried.

But the problem in Torts today is all from the GOP appointing ideologues Judges who refuse to allow juries to hear cases anymore, effectively repealing the Seventh Amendment, by an arbitrary refusal to accept testimony by a Plaintiff's expert witnesses.

It is as corrupt as it gets.

A group of 15 law professors nationwide has reportedly filed a professional misconduct complaint against White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, saying she "brings shame upon the legal profession.

Wow! Fifteen nationwide!

I guess the legal profession is jealous its reputation isn't sinking like the media's. To that end, this is a good start.

The complaint says Ms Conway is a member of the DC Bar. The membership directory says she isn't. If she isn't, this makes the complaint even weaker.

Their real complaint is that Kellyanne is on massive doses of testosterone and female cuteness magic in the 100 lbs weight class.

Her 55 - 0 winning wrestling record cannot be fair.

Is there a more contemptible bunch anywhere than law professors? Really appalling. I would explain in detail how offensive and moronic this letter is, but I think, with Garrison, "Argument is demanded--to prove what?"

will they seek to have Hillary Clinton disbarred? Eric Holder? Barack Obama? All have conducted themselves so as to bring disrepute to the profession.

Yeah, you're most welcome. I thought so too. In fact, I thought that there's some "Althouse" in the blogwriting style of Jack Marshall. And that is a compliment to Marshall.

She took and passed the DC bar exam, unlike Hillary who failed it, but she let her membership lapse. Her business is survey, not law.

Well, it's a start, but shouldn't some consideration be given to the children who are under this woman's care. God only knows what evils they're exposed to. An effort should be made to take those innocent children out of that household. Also Ms. Conway is still of child bearing age. Can we not sterilize her so that the world will not be troubled by more little Conways........One thing I've never understood. How come this slippery slope only leads to fascism? Aren't there any slippery slopes that lead to Jacobins or Red Guards?

Jupiter said...

The main reason that lawyers and politicians are so generally despised is that it is their job to attempt to make it possible for us to coexist with our fellow citizens. In particular, with those of our fellow citizens we are least inclined to get along with. A thankless task, but often a well-paid one.

readering said...

Given that the United States Office of Government Ethics has already recommended an investigation into Ms. Conway, this does not seem much of a stretch. No doubt she'll manage to play the victim.

Can we assume that these law professors favor disbarring Barack and Michelle Obama for having told the American people that we could keep our doctors and that our health insurance premiums would go down $2500 for the average family of four?

readering said...

Let's see the five page single space letter on that charge and think about it.

Just because Conway's membership is suspended for non-payment of dues does not mean she cannot be disciplined. After Watergate Nixon wanted to quietly resign from NY Bar. He wasn't permitted unless admitted to wrongdoing and was disbarred instead.

Three of the signatories are (presumably temporary) adjuncts. When I see adjunct faculty spending time on stuff like this, I frankly hold it against them. Rather than using the prestige of their temporary host institutions to lend dubious credence to their cause--nobody cares that you a visiting professor at Yale--maybe they should focus like a laser on succeeding in the profession.

Jack Marshall addressed that in his own blog post that to which I linked above. He concluded that post with the following:

I wouldn’t file an ethics complaint against these 15 unethical professors, though their conduct while not engaging in the practice of law is far worse than what they allege of Conway. I don’t believe it calls into question their fitness to practice law. It calls into question their fairness, judgement, and willingness to abuse their positions, however. Their basis for the complaint is minimal. Their arguments are inflated and disingenuous. Their motives are unprofessional, and obvious.

They want to embarrass Conway, thus wounding the President. If that was not the goal, they would not have released the complaint to the journalists, who, unlike me, for example, don’t know enough about the substance to see it as the blatantly political attack that it is. Complaints to the bar are virtually always made without fanfare, and the bar investigates and settles the issues raised without publicity, unless discipline is warranted. I am not involved in bar discipline, and cannot speak for the lawyers who are, although I know most of them.

I can and will say that I will be stunned if their reaction to this disgraceful abuse of the Bar’s function, the disciplinary process and the Rules themselves differs from mine in any way.

And here again is that link:

Chuck said...

I should have made it clearer in my preceding post...

One of Jack Marshall's primary criticisms of the lawprofs' complaint against Kellyanne Conway is that their complaint doesn't even go to the practice of law. Kellyanne Conway isn't acting as Trump's lawyer; the White House Counsel (Don McGahn) has that job. They are griping about something Kellyanne Conway said as a political operative, removed entirely from any practice of law.

And the corollary is that with their complaint, the 15 lawprofs are also not practicing law. Their complaint is illegitimate and ought to be bounced. But to file a new complaint against them is no more legitimate than the basis they used to get it started.
