"I’m quite aggressive, and Reince is a calming influence on hey — bang bang bang, here’s how we ought to think about doing that."

Said Steve Bannon.
“We talk a lot, pretty much all day long,” Priebus said. “And then we communicate at night —”

“Until we fall asleep,” Bannon interjected with a laugh.

Priebus cut in, “Until somebody falls asleep … You fell asleep last night.”

“I did,” Bannon said.

“I think, like, a quarter to 11,” Priebus added.

“I did,” Bannon said.

“He became unresponsive,” Priebus laughed.

“It’s very easy to write the gossipy stuff,” he said, mocking the media for reading into Priebus’s Republican National Committee background, or casting himself and Stephen Miller as “wild men” and people “who are crazy.”

...Bannon got involved in populist right-wing media, taking control of Breitbart News after the death of its founder, Andrew Breitbart. He labeled it “the platform for the alt-right” in an interview last year. The alt-right, a broad label for the fringe far-right (including outright racists and anti-Semites), is at the forefront of the outsider hordes that are overrunning the conservative Establishment — that is, the political culture that produced Priebus, two-time chairman of the RNC.

That didn't take long.

Ace over at Ace of Spades used to describe Obama's petulant approach to policy debate as his "mean girl" style. At least the author of this NY Mag article is a woman.

If Trump's style is "male bully," and it pretty much is, the left's "mean girl."

Or, the polls could still be consistent in understating Trump's support. Especially since all the violence, organized boycotts and risk is being directed at Trump supporters

Actually, this NY Mag headline could have served as the subject line of an email from the Hillary campaign to one of their obedient mainstream reporters: "Robby Mook and John Podesta want you to know they are friends"

Body of email: "Can you contact us for joint interview? You'll get exclusive access. HRC woudl appreciate"

They certainly know they are not going to get a fair shake from NYMag. So I hope they are doing all they can to mess with the mind of that writer. It sounds to me as if they are doing that. Especially when Priebus says “It’s all phony-baloney garbage that doesn’t exist and I hope that you can clear that up in the article,” Priebus knows that NYMag is not going to give him a hand or help him to "clear up" anything at all. I hear this conversation as Priebus and Bannon having a good time sticking it to the writer who is looking for dirt.

Way too many people here insist on seeing these guys as people. They aren't really people, as you understand people. There is nothing genuine in these characters. Everything has to be assumed to be a pretense. Things that aren't purely a mask are likely to be disastrous mistakes, like Hastert's or Bill Clinton's.

Wow. The author Olivia Nuzzi gets lazy and gossipy at the end of the article just like Bannon said is the MO of the media only a few paragraphs up.

Bannon dismissed the entire theory as a manifestation of media myopia and incuriosity. “The opposition party” — meaning the press, not the Democrats — “has to have …” He paused. “Since they’re too dumb and too lazy to actually do any work, um — am I over my skis here right now?” he asked Priebus.

Then she moved right into the gossipy laziness:

“He hates that,” one source close to the president said. “The way to kill somebody in the Trump orbit is to say to him, Oh, this guy’s your brain! He’s calling the shots! You’re just a fucker who does what he says! That’s the surest way to kill somebody, even if that somebody is doing a really good job.”

That paragraph sound about as well written and sourced as a tabloid.

To understand Bannon, you have to read this article.

There is much stuff and nonsense said about Steve Bannon, particularly after Andrew’s untimely death, when Bannon became executive chairman. They say he has taken Breitbart News far from Andrew’s vision. It should be known that Breitbart is run by Andrew’s childhood best friend and his longtime business partner Larry Solov. The editorial staff is helmed by Andrew’s first employee Alexander Marlow. Andrew’s widow is still involved as is Joel Pollack, a kippah-wearing Orthodox Jew. There has not been some great disconnect from Breitbart’s death to the present day.

Bannon came onto the scene as a documentary filmmaker. He came out of investment banking where, among other things, he handled the sale of Castle Rock Entertainment and instead of taking a fee, took a piece of a series then in pilot called Seinfeld. Bannon and Breitbart made films together including the remarkable Occupy Unmasked that explains who is behind the masked rioters who are even now burning American cities. Bannon became a partner in Breitbart News, bringing cash, vision, and drive.

Do you see any free speech issues here? Is there a problem with responding to a politically motivated attempt to damage the Presidents daughter's business? I would say there is. And Conway, as usual, is brave enough to say out loud what lefty intimidators would like her hold quiet.

Kellyanne Conway telling people to go buy Ivanka's stuff is remarkable.

Merchants are of course free to mix politics with business, but I think it generally is a dumb move to offend half of your potential customers.

Personally, I will not allow anything Apple in my house, regardless of what merits their products might have, because the political content of their advertising offends me.
So, do they gain more by appealing to the "hipsters" than they lose by offending "old white men"?
It is their choice, but I do not like it.

The funniest thing about the trolls is that they are so series in explaining how Trump couldn't possibly last a year, or win the election, or win the nomination.

It was wrong for Conway to do an ad for Ivanka. Clear and simple. It's law. But mostly it was stupid since the Democrats line of attack when they try to impeach him is going to be on the Emoluments Clause.

Anonymous said...

That ethics "violation" by Conway seems like really weak sauce to me. That strikes me as Conway exercising her First Amendment right to comment on what looks like a politically motivated action by Nordstrom. No harm no foul I'd say, and I'll bet the "counselling" wasn't much more than that.

Hagar said...

The media continuously moan about the lack of comity and bipartsanship in today's politics, but that bipartisanship was possible because while the Northern Republicans and Southern Democrats disagreed about segregation, they agreed about other things.
However, today, the progressive Democrats have done a remarkable job of alienating and forcing out of the party almost everyone who does not faithfully toe their line. In Congress, Joe Manchin and Jim Webb are the only ones left, and it is probably just a question of time before they switch parties.
OK, but these tactics create their own equal and opposite reaction.

And no, there is not going to be any impeachments because the majority party in the House either will not allow any, or, if it is in opposition, it will not have a 2/3 majority in the Senate, so any impeachment will fail on a partyline vote, regardless of the merits of the case.

It would appear KAC didn't "use [her] official title or refer to [her] Government position" nor "any authority associated with his public office to endorse any product, service or enterprise" in the manner specified by the regulation. (c) Endorsements. An employee shall not use or permit the use of his Government position or title or any authority associated with his public office to endorse any product, service or enterprise except:
