Brexit passes Parliament.

"Members of the House of Commons voted by 498 to 114 to advance the bill that would give Prime Minister Theresa May the authority to invoke Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty -- the formal process of leaving the EU."

It wasn't even close despite all the anguish from the media. The media is becoming more like the nervous nellies and merchants of doom. Fairly soon we'll all just disregard them.

I am proud of Trump for assuring the Brits we will
Trade with them on equal terms. That leaves the German United States as the odd man out.

On to Russia for a strong ally that blocks China.

How many months ago was the vote taken? The contrast with the speed that Trump does business is startling.

The delay was over litigation on whether a vote was needed at all. Once the highest court ruled it was needed, it happened fast. Because Labour also supports Brexit now. Main opposition from Scotland, Trump's homeland.

498 to 114.

Both the US and Britain are going to reduce taxes and regulation and work together bilaterally to be the engine of freedom for the world.

George Soros, his other oligarch pals, and the regressive left ca gnash their teeth as the EU implodes and teh rest of their globalist dream dies.

The Left will have to find another place to hide the refugees of social justice adventures past and present.

Got to wait, finally, for the Lords.
The last chance to stop this.

But its unlikely they will with such a huge Commons vote.

Wow. Trump, Brexit, French elections. The left is on the run in 2017. This is just the end of the beginning folks. The next 5 years are going to be yuge.

Brexit

What the hell are you talking about? the Conservative Party was against Brexit too. Cameron only floated the referendum because he thought there was no way that it would pass. It cost him his job.

Not a fan of the EU, sorry.

Like the idea of Great Britain departing the EU.

Glad that British Parliament expressed the will of the people.

That is all.

"the Conservative Party was against Brexit too"

True, most of it. But the people spoke and changed their minds.

Yep. Just like the GOPe was against Trump. They are starting to get the message, though.

498 to 114.

At least they don't have a mandate......
But how did the voting by (any method NOT called for by showing weakness in the Brexit movement) fare?
Yeah, the House of Lords will overturn it.
We must install Prince William to a full Monarchy and he will stop Brexit.....

Man, I'm trying so HARD to learn from my elite betters, but I just can't seem to find a way to spin this to bring sanity back.

SNP is as nutty as the US Democrats. What happened to Scotland, home of the Enlightenment?

Jeb and Rubio probably opposed Brexit too. We kicked them to the side. Your political class and globalist elites are getting it handed to them all over the world.

You can use your pussy hat to dry your tears.

If Scotland and Ireland want to stay in the EU, they should.

Time make a clean break and put 1000 years of history behind them.

When push comes to shove, I think they'll bitch and remain with England.

If Scotland were to become independent there would not be a labour government in the UK in a thousand years.

The upper chamber is running scared. They've already been stripped if hereditary peerages, and they realize the entire House could be done away with if they step too far out of line.

In theory the queen can veto legislation, but she never does, and for the same reason.

From a media-loathed minority position, Nigel Farage has remade Britain.

True re Farage.
I wonder what he's up to.
Not an ordinary sort of political ambition.
He doesnt strike me as a Cinncinnatus.

One likes to think that he has merely shown the British how Britain could be remade.

Trump is more like Cincinnatus.

Yep. Just like the GOPe was against Trump.

Career politicians of all persuasions are a mobile lot. To proper, i.e. to stay in office and enjoy the perquisites, the politician must shed his skin from time to time like other reptiles. Eight years from now the surviving Democrats will be falling over each other in a mad scramble to claim a share of the Trump legacy. It will not matter what idiocy issues forth from their mouths today, what matters it what they will say next year or the year after that. Cicero understood politics much better than does Al Franken: Nihil est incertius vulgo, nihil obscurius voluntate hominum, nihil fallacius ratione tota comitiorum. Nothing more uncertain than the mob, nothing more obscure than public opinion, nothing more deceptive than the whole political system.

The tally isn't that surprising- it isn't the final exit, so not too many MPs were willing to take a stand against a referendum that had majority support just 7 months ago. I still think a majority of the present parliament opposes leaving the EU, and are hoping at some point that a second referendum will be called before they have to vote on the final exit. They will have two years to engineer that.

But, my God, man, that would leave the English open to a Jacobite invasion engineered by the wily French!

If there IS a second referendum, I predict it will be even more pro-Brexit. People are feeling emboldened now.

I'm British - English, actually. I work in the City, voted Remain but am now working on Brexit and how to make it work. It will be fine and I'm sure the UK will be fine outside the EU. I certainly won't miss the anti-democratic nature of EU institutions, which I deal with on a regular basis. Most Remainers think the vote is done, and we're leaving the EU. Even in the City, where Leavers were a minority, the EU is not loved. The transition will be a pain - the amount of work required is, as I think your President would say, yuge

On the vote itself in the House, around 422 constituencies out of 650 in total, voted Leave. That's a landslide. That's why Remain MPs voted for Brexit.

I think if there was another vote now the majority for Leave would be much bigger.
