"An incurable itch for scribbling takes possession of many and grows inveterate in their insane hearts."

Scribbled Juvenal.

Scribble what you will here. It's an open thread...  café, as we say at Althouse... alehouse, if you prefer.

And do take the open thread as a cue to use The Althouse Amazon Portal as you do your usual (and unusual) shopping.

Maybe you'd like to read "16 Satires" by Juvenal.

6) Aubsolutely. Why Turnbull would do a deal with a outgoing President, knowing full well the incoming President’s attitude to illegal immigration, is anybodies guess. You don’t have to be real smart to work out Obama left it as a time bomb, why didn’t Turnbull recognise that? So the new President gets a call from a PM who arrogantly ignored him, as a Clinton Supporter, and on Trump’s win, asks Australia to ” stay calm” and then expects Trump to be jolly and happy about piling a bunch of economic refugees Australia does not want, into the US? Turnbull once more has shown his inability to judge the scene, and his arrogance in not being able to get it. How embarrassing for our country.

Just one example of Aussie takes on the Trump/Turnbull phone call. You know how our media told us Trump embarrassed us with the Aussies? Not so much

I’m sure everyone is curious Why UC police let anarchists run wild in Berkeley.

Already read 'em, nice bodice ripping cover!

Juvenal is about right for our time. We have morphed into post-Christian pagans running our own World Empire enforcing a Pax Americana.

Apropos of Berkeley's l'affair Milo - how hard would it be to equip police officers with dyes or other markers (spray paint) that they could use to liberally douse any masked protesters for ease of later identification (maybe mix in some skunk spray or butyric acid).

I like the way you think.

What sort of medications, or further, what sort of leather straps would be appropriate for this level of disconnection from reality?

I think a nice, big, comfortable net, with many big, huggable giant black foam cocks would help them to gather around and feel comfortable, might be the best bet in corraling them.

What say you? Hmm?

Or A200.
Might help.

The Moro War - James Arnold
Lively, anecdotal, frequently bizarre.
If you want to know how "Black Jack" Pershing got his reputation, and made his career, this is it.
One of the rate, true American colonial soldiers.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) was determined by the presiding president of the U.S. Senate to have violated the Senate Rules.

Senate Rule XIX says: "No Senator in debate shall, directly or indirectly, by any form of words impute to another Senator or to other Senators any conduct or motive unworthy or unbecoming a Senator."

Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) raised the point of order, and the presiding president agreed that Warren had broken this rule with her remarks about Attorney General nominee Jeff Sessions, who is also a sitting senator from Alabama.

They actually cut her speech off and told her to take a seat.

Bwwwwwah!

That would assume the Berkeley cops or campus cops had any interest in arresting liberal demonstrators. Besides, arresting someone doused with butyric acid would not be pleasant.

My team just won the Super Bowl and I still don't care what ESPN has to say about it. All they care about is racial politics, oh yeah, and making sure half the commentators are women who probably never went to a baseball game in their lives of their own volition.

In place of Chris Berman, they have a political officer whose job seems to be keeping everybody's mind right. The only thing he seems able to analyze are the "intangibles"

Meanwhile the NFL network just puts up smart and insightful commentators who happen to be mostly black, like the players.

Wtf is Tom Price doing with his investments in HC companies?

He's probably the right guy to help dismantle some of pelosi/reid care. Too bad he's got an incurable ethics disease. NYT has further analysis if you care.

Buh bye Tommy boy.

à propos of nothing in particular ...

I have developed a habit of checking out NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day site frequently, at https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html. The images can be fascinating, and today (Feb. 8, 2017) is one of those, with a stunning photo of the Butterfly Nebula.

For non-specialists, this is the easy way to tour the wonders of the universe. Close-ups of Pluto, the auroras on Jupiter, and a short video of four planets orbiting a distant star, have all been on offer within the last few months.

Which makes me think that it is no wonder the Almighty needed a day of rest after the Creation.

The Golf Channel insists that their female commentators know golf. ESPN only cares if they get a huge number of double takes in a room full of men, because equality.

Juvenal's Saturae help keep all the nonsense that goes on in our society in perspective. They're a truly healthful antidote to the nauseating clouds of hypocrisy and PC that cover so much of what's in the media, online &c.
