"But it is amazing that this Texas tornado dislodged the bathtub with the woman in it, lofted into the air..."

"... and then apparently gently laid it back on the ground — with the woman unharmed."

Tornadoes are fickle things.

They seem to destroy the indestructible, and will gently deposit breakables in a farm field miles away without a scratch.

You will see pictures of homes that are completely destroyed... except for part of one wall with the china cabinet where not a single dish is cracked.

Around 1963, my father was in his car when a tornado picked it up, spun it around, and put it back down almost exactly where it started, but facing the other way. He was OK and the car was not damaged, except for a hole in one door about 3 inches in diameter, and the rock that made the hole was inside the door.

This was in the middle of Chicago, where tornadoes are rare.

This was just like the tornado that hit up north in Tomahawk, WI near my lake home. An old gentleman's home was destroyed as the tornado tore through but he was no where to be found. Someone finally noticed a large hole in the roof of a nearby cabin...sure enough. He was dead and there was no bathtub but otherwise the same.

Not something that is likely to recur. The lady won that particular lottery. Tornadoes have a habit of causing odd things amid the massive destruction and chaos, the proverbial straw driven into a telephone pole. Randomness and chance have a way of doing that.

Tornadoes can almost seem whimsical. You can trace the track of a tornado as it moves down a street destroying house after house, then it lifts up for no discernable reason, skips a house or two, then touches back down and devastates some more homes.

Here in Chattanooga a few years back it was reporter a tornado lifted a baby from its mother's arms (she was also in a bathtub) but she reached up and pulled it back down again.

M. Jordan,

I saw that just a moment ago- I was shocked to find she was 80- whenever I think of her, it is always in the opening of her self-titled show.

A former volunteer fireman told me that one time they were called to deal with a house that blew up in a gas explosion. Amazingly, a baby was in the house and landed in a yard several houses away, unharmed.

Sounds like a great idea for an amusement park ride but without the nudity for most people.

Which way does the water circle the drain when a tornado picks the bathtub up.

I say again, fate is a funny thing.
