Patti Smith : Bob Dylan :: Sacheen Littlefeather : Marlon Brando?

No. Bob Dylan is not declining the Nobel Prize, nor is his nonappearance at the ceremony a protest in service of some issue that Bob Dylan cares about and Patti Smith embodies. But Patti Smith will stand in for Bob Dylan at the Nobel Prize event next week.

Watched it on the train with the sound off. Pretty girl, not as pretty as James Bond, maybe prettier than his co-presenter (who was that?).

Real Red Indian? Reminds me of a non-overweight Kardashian girl. Wonder if she likes butter.

BTW typo alert, it's Sacheen.

He should have picked Joan Baez and let her spend the money.

Right-leaning charlatans like to boast of their days in the CIA. Lefty mountebanks like to part their hair in the middle and claim to be Injuns. Appropriating an aboriginal identity is the quickest way for a white person to gain undeserved status and deference among progressives. A little hair dye and some congolene will occult the most obvious Euro heritage. Blue eyes are a definite asset, since they give credence to the story about the U.S. cavalrymen who raped great-great-grandmama.

And shortly thereafter the Indians told Brando he was no longer needed. The reason? 'Cause no white man can understand, or lead, the Indian movement.

It's a red thing, you wouldn't understand.

Thanks for the "typo" alert on my misspelling of the name.

By the way, Littlefeather reminds me of Leigh French — of "Share a Little Tea with Goldie" on the old Smothers Brothers show.

Do we know what important event Dylan can't miss that prevents him from attending the Nobel ceremony?

I think it's Christmastime with his family.

And then she went to a career highlight of a nude photo shoot in Playboy. Just sayin'.

I always loved Leigh French.

"Native Americans?" Bullshit. "Previous Americans."

I remember that. I was a teen. We were raising money for school trip and collecting paper for recycling. There were four of us guys. We sorted out all the Playboys and Penthouses from all the other paper material. I rode in the back of the pickup (with topper) catching up on the entire library. For some reason I remember Ms. Littlefeather.

This adolescent idolatry has to stop or else your lucrative retirement package will be withdrawn.

The guy's 75 and has just finished a grueling touring season. Why would he want to leave sunny California relaxing with his family to travel to Stockholm in the winter to attend a pompous ceremony?

So
Dylan is sending Ms. Smith instead of Mr. Jones. Brilliant

At least Ms. Littlefeather was polite, civil, succinct and somewhat attractive. They're not making left-wing agitators like they used to....

I am very pleased that Dylan, avoiding this attempt to force him into giving a speech for mere money in Sweden, is still getting his Nobel payday of $870,000 (plus the nice medal). Payment is the sincerest form of flattery, or so I've heard.
