FiveThirtyEight uses Ron Johnson to depict the proposition: "Clinton Is Surging, But Down-Ballot Democrats Are Losing Ground."

Link to article: here. Key passage:
Perhaps most worrisome for Democrats is what’s going on in Wisconsin. Republican Sen. Ron Johnson’s re-election campaign looked all but dead. The powerful Koch brothers pulled money out of the state as Democrat Russ Feingold consistently led in the polls. But two new polls this week showed Johnson trailing by just 2 or 3 percentage points, and a third gave Johnson a lead, despite Clinton’s advantage in the state seeming to grow....
ADDED: It makes perfect sense to me. The more clear it seems that Clinton will win, the more important it becomes to those who worry about her that she should be offset and balanced by a Republican-led Congress. It seems really risky to empower a President Trump with a same-party Congress, but once he's not a threat, the risk-averse among us should gravitate toward a Republican Congress to put a brake on President Clinton.

You, and a lot of cons, are only making yourself look dumb when you make an error while you're highlighting that BHO made an error.

BHO was actually talking about the existence of 60 states.

If you don't know what I mean.....do your own research.

I'm old..it's way above me.

Sprezzatura said...

Yup, that counts as young for normal folks.

[W/ the exception for DJT who has told a 10 yo and a group of 14 yos that he's interested in dating (F-ing?) them a bit down the road. Likewise his daughter, more than once.]

About that quote, Do tell

Sprezzatura said...

Anywho, where's R&B?

Maybe he can tell us more about how it's unfair for undersexed folks to pick on DJT for saying he sexually assaults women.

Most here mostly think that R&B is mostly wrong, maybe you should stick w/ that POV, even if it seems like he may be supportive of your DJT support.

Just sayin'

Walt,

He says he's been to 57 states but there's one contiguous state left and Alaska and Hawaii.

That is he meant to say 47.

And considering the R candidate for this election cycle, don't you think the value of that talking point is a bit diminished?

As if it ever had any value.

walter said...

Sorry? Is he confusing states with territories?

Sprezzatura said...

Walter,

When you see ten and fourteen year olds have you ever said that you'd be dating them in ten years? Do you have a daughter? Have you on multiple occasions said that you'd like to date your daughter?

BTW, if you answered yes, you are sick. And, it is not PC to say that you are sick. It is civilized, imho.

Sprezzatura said...

Fine walt, I should have written 57. That's my error.

But, hopefully you can back off of saying it's ok to look at ten yos and 14 yos and your own daughter as potential gals for dating.

What's the bigger deal relative to the rotting of our culture? An error re 4 v 5, or dating children or your own daughter?

I think let us wait a couple of days anyway, and see if Trump has any better comeback than "I did not have sexual relations with that woman."

One good comeback, if he can do it, is to show he did not fly commercial that year. I have not seen enough info to see if she was specific about the airline and the flight. I remember Stephanopoulis once admitted he went to the hotel where Bill raped Juanita Broderick to check her story and see if they could prove her lying. He concluded he could not.

I thought they put a repeal bill on Obama's desk. I could be wrong.

A President Trump would allow a repeal to pass without the likelihood of a veto. Thanks for the excuse to clarify.

And when that's all over, in about three weeks, find your own new party.

A sound suggestion! I was never very comfortable with the GOP but usually voted for them over the Democrats. I was never a GOP member. But I’m thinking my viewpoint is closer to the Alt-Right viewpoint. So if an Alt-Right party develops I will probably support those candidates. The GOP working against its own nominee is the straw that broke my back.

I've no quarrel with Fox News, just Hannity. And my problem isn't that he's a Trump supporter …

Sure. We believe that. Coincidence happens all the time.

I think that the surprise of this election year will be how well down-ballot Republicans do.

They’ll be doing without my vote from now own. Treachery must be opposed.

Winning them over by insulting them. Dale Carnegie would be so proud.

Fuck Dale Carnegie.

The political battle over Obamacare is over.

You would think so but the eGOP doesn’t seem to realize it.

Obamacare will collapse in an economic heap no later than 2018.

I think if Hillary wins, it will be shored up, changed a little, nibbled a bit around the edges, perhaps, but it stays. Especially now that the GOP has fucked their down ballot candidates because of actively working against their own POTUS nominee. They may indeed lose their majority, the price you pay when you fuck significant portions of your own base.

At this point, the whole condition and nature of the US government has evolved into something that can only be described using ideas from fantasy and science fiction. It of course transcends all constraints of realist literature, to include magic realism.

A reasonably accurate idea can be derived by wrenching the imagination to consider an amalgam of:

Douglas Adams Vogons from Hitchhikers Guide, of course. I HAVE tried the number 42 on various occasions, out of desperation, and no, it hasnt worked either. The Vogon qualities almost perfectly define the personal charm and style and culture of the system, to include, by happy chance, its conception of poetry.
The Vogons though are played for laughs, and they have no purpose, as such, which brings us to -

Fred Saberhagens Beserkers, the self-replicating autonomous collective machine intelligence, dedicated to expunging all biological life in the universe, through their immense, overwhelming swarms. Much copied by later writers of course (see Gregory Benford). This defines perfectly well its capacities and revealed purpose.
But of course this is not a machine, as such. It has feelings. Which brings us to-

HP Lovecraft's various monstrous elder Gods and aliens, which perfectly capture the attitudes of the controllers of the system towards such unfortunate portions of humanity that come to their attention.

That's not bad for no college.

So, FU FU FU to any FBI folks who want to jump ship because Republican Comey followed the law and didn't lock up HRC for receiving 3 emails that had subsections w/ the letter "C" for confidential, which is the lowest level of classification. And, the State department says two of these three were improperly marked as "C".

Let these FBI folks quit, and hopefully w/o us invading foreign countries there isn't all sorts of dough to be made as a contractors to the DOD. Let them look for a non-gov job or sit at home playing video games, or doing whatever it is that losers do nowadays.

Then replace them w/ cops from poorly paying, unappreciative places like Houston.

All in all, I simply don't believe this theory about ticket splitting- one of those two polling results is in large error for some reason, and I suspect I know which one. I never thought Trump had a prayer of winning Wisconsin- hell, he couldn't even beat Ted Cruz there in the primary. Johnson is toast and will likely lose by more than 10%. And I wouldn't rule out Ryan losing now, either. It isn't wise to make an enemy out of your normal supporters. Trump is still going to draw 40% of the vote in Wisconsin, and people like Ryan will need most of those that are in his district. If even a quarter of them take revenge on him, he will lose, too.

The bulk of comments here demonstrate how emotions, passion and wishful thinking trumps (no pun intended) sober analysis of the poilitical scene.

My sober analysis is this:

1. The left wing forces in the country are united (despite some grumbling by Bernie voters) and marching forward with their utopian vision of how the USA ought to be. They are striving for more socialism, more athiesm, more equality, more bisexuality.

2. The right wing forces in the country are divided and in retreat. Marriage, the military, the churches, small business, the police are all feeling besieged. The once great Universities are now mostly left-wing fool factories.

What's been lost is the general understanding that the biggest engine of growth and prosperity the world has ever known is the combination of capitalism and Judeo-Christian work ethic and moral value system, as practiced by the good ole USA.

I hope Trump wins, because he generally opposes the LeftWing march towards social utopia, which they call "social progress".

However, his tone, temperament and outsized ego provides way too much ammo for his opponents. It's late in the 4Q, he's down by a touchdown, but he keeps getting sacked, and then blaming his teammates.

He wasn't my first, second or third choice - but he's our leader right now, so I feel the need to rally around him and support him, despite his missteps. The alternative is simply much worse.

Without the White House and the House, and a 60+ Senate supermajority, how do you suppose they would do that? How do you suppose any veto (by a Dem president) would be overridden? Without, that is, Republicans in super-majority status in Congress. You think that Republicans can shut down the government until Obamacare is repealed? Just how stupid, how divorced from reality, are you?

Don't ever vote Republican if you don't want to. But your ignorance of how legislation gets passed, and your failure to understand the practical/electoral realities of how to take away a federal entitlement program is what shocks me. I buy this. They have big megaphones and are often right, in theory, on many issues. But the problem is that they've become too utopian and abstract. Many people are "conservative" in their deeds, but have no time to cogitate and ruminate about it. They have to work, pay the bills, nurture their marriage, and shuttle their kids to and from school. They want safe streets, safe schools, cold beer and a football game on the weekend. Reading Russell Kirk at night ain't in the cards.

In 2012, a lot of folks stayed home, rather than vote for Romney, because he wasn't conservative enough. This was a mistake.

But, in 2016, I think it'd be a similar mistake for folks to stay home and not vote Trump - mostly because the Left is so bad.

The terms of the bet are that Fabi thinks Trump will get better than 15% of the African-American vote. And I don't.

I think Trump will do better than most GOP candidates with the black vote.

I doubt it hits 10% though. 15% seems exceptionally unlikely. I doubt Tim Scott could hit 15% of the black vote running against Hillary.

Writing in Evan McMullin is also an option. He's surging in Utah.

I cannot fathom a vote for McMullen. "Want Hillary's inept foreign policy and Trump's ineptitude in politics in one person? Vote Evan!"

1. In 2018, with impeachment clouds gather over the Hillary White House, you'll vote for Republicans in Congress to (hopefully) make that happen.

The odds of Clinton facing impeachment are about the same as Trump hitting 40% of the black vote in 3 weeks.

Bullshit, Obama has been checked, just not 100% shut down.

Don't see how. He still gets funding for his pet projects, even when the Congress doesn't allocate the money. And they do not punish him by cutting funding drastically until he knuckles under.

Curious. If you were running for President, and verbiage like this was revealed to be coming from your mouth, in your words and voice, on some hot mic tape, how do you think that would affect your chances?

Trick question-you'd be running as a D, so it would all be OK.

BTW, if you don't want to fuck your daughter, fine, but somebody's gonna.

to the extent this effect exists it's only because trump is supported by many non-traditional-R voters and hillary may be joined by economic-conservative R who see all the serious globocorps backing their Hillary

wisconsin and nearby states are, aside from the yankee and left coasts, the only states where white voters vote for hillary at the moment. very odd. what's going on there? i guess it's just social-network effects but i trust ann can plumb in greater depth.

i see (some! not all) mormons i know on facebook promoting wild mcmullin potus fantasies. it's too sad. i can't even respond. they're nuts. they still want a mormon to save the constitution as some nuts 'white horse' prophecy tantalizingly promised.
