"The media elites are in a panic. They witnessed the meltdown of their candidate in broad daylight and can feel that shiver up their spine..."

"... except that this time, it is not the delight of victory they are feeling, but the dread of defeat," writes Kenneth R. Timmerman at The Hill.
They watched her spar unsuccessfully over this issue with Clinton Global Initiative member and NBC morning news anchor Matt Lauer during Wednesday night's national security forum, and blamed her poor performance on — Matt Lauer.

The Washington Post is now essentially an arm of the Democratic National Committee. It has done this with deep investigative dive into the penetralia of the Trump empire and no equivalent reporting about the Clinton emails, the Clinton Foundation's corrupt pay-to-play scheme or the nonstop lies from Clinton herself.
All very interesting. Read the whole thing. Timmerman is an out Trump supporter. I'm just going to get distracted by the word "penetralia."

It is a word. Not a coinage. My dictionary — the Oxford English Dictionary — says it's "The innermost parts or recesses of a building; spec. the sanctuary or inner sanctum of a temple. Also fig.: secret parts, mysteries, etc." From the diverse the historical examples:
1876   J. G. Holland Story of Sevenoaks (new ed.) xxiii. 323   They followed the boy into the penetralia of the great office.
1947   B. N. Cardozo Paradoxes Legal Sci. 99   We reach the penetralia of liberty when we throttle the mental life of a group so fundamental.
1994   H. Weinstein Better Man vii. 73   Even since Spock's mind-blowing journey through the vast penetralia of the machine-being V'ger a couple of years earlier.
I just want to say: 1. I hope the boy is okay. 2. I can't find a searchable copy of Cardozo's book, and despite the seeming love of lawyers for Cardozo, I can't find that quote in any case, so I can't tell you what group's penetralia he didn't want to throttle. 3. Nice to see "Star Trek" pop up in this context. And: What a great word! Penetralia. It's like genitalia, but, despite sounding sexier, you can use it in all sorts of contexts, from lofty legal bullshit to pop culture chatter.

In backing HRC as their candidate, the Democratic-powers-that-be are taking a huge gamble. Just how openly corrupt can a presidential candidate be & still get elected, & if elected, actually govern?

Many people see the choice of Donald Trump as the Republican nominee as a disaster for the Republican Party. Maybe. That out of the chaos of 17 Republican candidates we get Trump because of a disconnect between the Republican base & the money-men is one thing. But, for the entire Democratic political & cultural establishment to get together & choose Hillary as their only possible standard-bearer is a rot of an entirely more profound order. The fact that within the Democratic Party the only faction that resisted Hillary's spell was the space-cadet Left under Bernie Sanders just makes the total picture all the more horrifying.

The Caesar thing is interesting to me. Last night, I watched "Ender's Game", a movie made from the first book in a science fiction series by Orson Scott Card. In it, Hans Solo (Harrison Ford) told Ender that he would have to be Caesar, or Napolean. Ender responded that Caesar died, and Napolean lost. Which meant that Ender, still a kid was being asked to sacrifice himself for humanity. Not one of Ford's stronger performances, or rather, he was too strong for the part, tending to obscure that he wasn't supposed to be the main character - Ender was. Still, decent movie for those of us who read the books first.

The Latin verb penetrare doesn't have the unavoidable obscene connotations of the English cognate. One of Catullus' best know poems (11) has a line about traveling to far-off India. Very literally, it means "penetrate the extreme Indians", which always gets a nervous oh-my-god-I-hope-no-one-thinks-I'm-racist-for-laughing laugh in Latin class.

As I noted in another thread, Crooked Hillary possibly fainting could be a game changer. I think that this could blow open the question of her health. Just imagine a President who couldn't stand in the sun long enough to review troops, or listen to long speeches when meeting foreign leaders. Or to give graduation speeches.

Possibly making this worse for her campaign, her knees apparently buckled as she possibly fainted, and her security/medical detail rushed her out, and her press pool was prevented from following. Possibly the biggest story of the campaign, and they are forced to stand on the sidelines. Which is why I expect the campaign discussion to shift from whether she made up words, or how many Trump supporters are deplorable, or whether he was using sarcasm or hyperbole, to whether she is too ill to be President, and maybe too sick to even be running.

I may be speaking too soon here, but I do feel a bit sorry for Crooked Hillary. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if she hitched her wagon to Bill's because she saw him as a potential route to the White House, and then that she was the one pushing him to run for the Presidency. She has always seemed the more ambitious of the two. Then, after the co-Presidency failed to work, and Slick Willie was impeached, she figured out a route to the White House on her own. Eight years as a Senator, the on prestigious committees should work. Except that Obama and his people beat her, but she leveraged her (and her husband's) support for the Secretary of State job (for which she had no real qualifications). That would give her even more credentials for when Obama retired, and she could run again. Meanwhile, she and her people were greasing the skids of her nomination, sidelining any real serious candidates. Building an unbeatable funding operation. Building up obligations and relationships This was her last real chance. She may have been working 40 years for this, and stands to lose it all to a guy, somewhat a friend, who joined moped into politics maybe a year ago on a whim.

I don't think Hillary's health issues will be a game changer. Focus on the Electoral College. The Dems already enjoy a massive and almost insurmountable lead in the EC. I don't know how or if Trump can overtake it. And I don't think that Hillary, short of withdrawing from the race because of poor health, can lose that lead.

Bruce Hayden said...

The WaPo article was interesting in how Cilliza tried so hard to justify calling attention to her health. He repeatedly said that up until today, there was no evidence to support all the Rightwing conspiracy theories about her health, but two health issues within a week (the coughing fit six days ago, and the fainting today) forced him to change his mind. After all, her personal physician had assured us in general terms that she was just fine. And that she had recovered completely from the brain fart that caused her to forget her four years as Secretary of State (or at least the national security ramifications of using a private, insecure email server, Blackberrys, and iPad). Etc. one of the more extensive CYAs I have seen for reporting the actual news, instead of Clinton campaign spin. What they are also doing is priming Lester Holt for Lester to “fact-check” Trump during the debate, a la Candy Crowley with Romney, not just in a one-off but for the entire debate. Here again this Trump supporter is expecting poor ol’ Lester to dutifully follow their instructions.

Here also they have no choice – they all suddenly realized after her security forum performance that she is going to be toast in the upcoming debate. Trump will eat her alive – unless they can somehow stymie Trump.

But Trump is not Romney.

The producer of "Top Gun" Don Simpson was one of the doctor shoppers..

At the time of his death, there were twenty-one different drugs in his system including antidepressants, stimulants, sedatives, and tranquilizers. In August 1996, investigative reporter Chuck Philips of The Los Angeles Times revealed that Simpson had been obtaining large quantities of prescription drugs from fifteen different doctors and that police found 2,200 prescription pills in his home.

There are doctors buzzing around these people. Jack Kennedy was going to a quack and, if you believe the stories, getting IV amphetamines.

From the Times report on Hillary's concussion and blood clot:
Hillary Rodham Clinton, whose globe-trotting tour as secretary of state was abruptly halted last month by a series of health problems, was discharged from a New York hospital on Wednesday evening after several days of treatment for a blood clot in a vein in her head.

The news of her release was the first welcome sign in a troubling month that grounded Mrs. Clinton — preventing her from answering questions in Congress about the State Department’s handling of the lethal attack on an American mission in Libya or being present when President Obama announced Senator John Kerry as his choice for her successor when she steps down as secretary of state.
. . .
Mrs. Clinton, 65, was admitted to NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia hospital on Sunday after a scan discovered the blood clot. The scan was part of her follow-up care for a concussion she sustained more than two weeks earlier, when she fainted and fell, striking her head. According to the State Department, the fainting was caused by dehydration, brought on by a stomach virus. The concussion was diagnosed on Dec. 13, though the fall had occurred earlier that week.

The clot was potentially serious, blocking a vein that drains blood from the brain. Untreated, such blockages can lead to brain hemorrhages or strokes. Treatment consists mainly of blood thinners to keep the clot from enlarging and to prevent more clots from forming, and plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration, which is a major risk factor for blood clots.
. . .
Clinton’s blood clot formed in a large vein along the side of her head, behind her right ear, between the brain and the skull. The vein, called the right transverse sinus, has a matching vessel on the left side. These veins drain blood from the brain; blockages can cause strokes or brain hemorrhages. But if only one transverse sinus is blocked, the vein on other side can usually handle the extra flow.

Love this bit here:

With only a few weeks before the end of President Obama’s first term — the time frame she set for her own departure — she will be able to do little more than say goodbye to the state department employees lucky enough to have survived her tenure.

Okay, I edited that last bit for clarity.

I'm just speculating, HT. How unusual is it for people to suffer a concussion as a result of a 'stomach virus'? How unusual is it for this concussion to go undiagnosed for days?
"They went to all this trouble to say she had staged what was a terrible concussion that required six months of very serious work to get over," [Bill Clinton] said. "It's something she never low-balled with the American people, never tried to pretend it didn't happen."
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2014/05/hillary-clinton-took-6-months-to-get-over-concussion-bill-says-of-timeline/

There is something fishy about this. Although her spokes people have stated that concussion was the result of fainting and a fall due to a 'stomach virus', no one seems to know the exact date she fell, other than that it was between Dec. 9 and Dec. 12, 2012.

That is dehydration? To collapse like that is not mild dehydration. Seems she lost muscle tone. And yet, she made a recovery and popped back out a few hours later. I can't explain it right off the top of my head.

By now Hillary has bleach bitted everything in her control that will disclose her chronic Parkinson's Disease and Levodopa drug reaction.

I just hope no unexplained deaths happen in the course of this cover up.

Let's see.

Thursday: (+-) Talk of Hillary's health is reckless and trash talk by trash people.
Friday: (+-) That coughing spell (and, presumably the others before) was allergies.
Today: Overheated, at temperatures in the high 70s.
Today (later): Hillary has been fighting pneumonia for a few days... and still, for effect, embraced a child.

This changing of explanations is SOP for her. Yet, I continue to read/hear the Clinton explanations repeated in the press as if they represented fact.

One has to purposely suspend belief to accept ANY of Hillary's statements about ANYTHING.

Watch the video. Watch her legs. That's not fainting, it's a seizure. This is madness.

The wide receivers went deep down field as penetralia in a last ditch effort to score a touchdown.

Every 2 terms the US electorate switches party. 2 years democrats, 2 years republicans, 2 years democrats. It's like clockwork except for the Carter/George Sr correction. We just get tired of defending our idiots and that results in low turnout at the polls.

I believe the Democrats know this and expected Hillary to run and lose but because of the media has ramped up Trump hate to such a level, and cooked polls, it started to look like she might have a chance. Now they are seeing it slip back to what they'd originally expected.

That classic mockumentary was originally titled "This is Penetralia" until trademark issues err..sprang up.

A statement from the Trump campaign:

“After seeing the video of Mrs. Clinton today, we thought her health issues were very serious. We are relieved to hear it is attributed to the more common ailment of pneumonia. Granted, pneumonia can be a serious disease, taking the life of Muppet creator Jim Henson at age 53.

“We hope and pray for her quick recovery. If she should win the election (something we are not hoping for, by the way!), she will need to be at full strength. As stressful as running for president is, actually being president is much more so.

“God be with you, Mrs. Clinton.”

I wish.

What Joe said:

If a person faints they go limp and slide downward—not lurch in fits and starts.
And if fainting were suspected, the remedy would be putting the person's head between the legs to get blood to the brain. A prone position is even better—fainting occurs when blood pools in the lower extremities.

Hillary's! handlers propped her upright. Why?

I wasn't even watching her legs, and I could see her upper body convulse at least 3 times before she fell off of the curb.

Pneumonia? That seems relatively easy to diagnose. Especially since she's had cough-gate for what seems like months. The initial excuse was heat exhaustion, it was 79 degrees at the time and very breezy. None of it adds up.

Weirdness from Wapo:

The incident also raised questions about Clinton's traveling group of reporters, which she left behind at Ground Zero when she departed unexpectedly, leaving the press with no knowledge of her whereabouts or condition for about 90 minutes.

Clinton travels with a small group of reporters and photographers representing broadcast and print outlets. The arrangement, called a “pool,” approximates the rotating group of press outlets that travel with the president.

Trump has no such pool, a break with past candidates. He had no reporters with him Sunday, when he appeared unannounced at the same memorial ceremony Clinton attended.
--
So..no one to tell reporters anything? If this was pneumonia, wouldn't she have said something about it being a cold during that previous extended coughing jag? I thought she had attributed that to meds or something.
And..how is it that Trump has no pool? His choice or media's? I can see Trump not wanting one frankly..but weird to not specify that in article.

"What a great word! Penetralia. It's like genitalia, but, despite sounding sexier, you can use it in all sorts of contexts, from lofty legal bullshit to pop culture chatter."

If a man uses it on a college campus, I predict he'll be accused of sexual harassment. Or if he uses it within earshot of that insane feminist who melted down because she thought the joke name "Hugh Mungus" was sexual assault.

I don't think anyone really understands what is happening here.

One of Soros grandkids is making donations to the Clinton Global Initiative money laundering scheme and is having Hillary flop about for fun.

Not Oladotun A. Okunola, M.D.?

"Dr. Okunola joins the prestigious Neurology group, Neuroscience Center of Northern New Jersey, to provide a variety of specialized care. He specializes in epilepsy, clinical neurophysiology, and sleep medicine."

Seeing him in that plaid shirt (in another photo), whoever he is, did not make me think "Oh, USSS Detail Lead." I do agree that thing in his hand was probably not a Diazepam pen, but hard to know what it was, or if a flashlight, why it was in his hand (as for gun hand, how do we know his chirality).

I used timeanddate weather history for this: weather in NYC at time of HRC exit on 9-11-2016 was 79°F with 54% humidity, scattered clouds and a northeast wind at 9 mph. Where I live in Kansas, this would be considered as a cool, pleasant day!
