I know our hostess doesn't cover immigration much, if at all.

However, there is an aspect I'd love to see her cover.

Ever since Trump has joined the race he has been pounding on immigration. And there has been two predictable responses to anything Trump has said on immigration.

1) He is a Nazi, Fascist, Racist, Thug who wants to put everyone in concentration camps.

Or

2) He is flip flopping, going soft, on immigration!

My perception has been Trump has been consistent on immigration but those who report his message don't like when it doesn't comport with their prior misrepresentation, so they attack him.

I'd enjoy reading our hostess take on his immigration stance and whether he has been consistent, or if she believes as the others do, that he has flipped.

Goldenrod is wrongly maligned- most people who think they are allergic to it are actually reaction to ragweed pollen.

It keeps showing up. You never like seeing it. And you were sure after dealing with it a while back it wouldn't be a problem anymore.

Oh, I'm sure it will remain Bush's mess. Eight years from now, 16 years after Bush left office, they'll still be blaming their failures on Bush.

It worked for 60 years when they blamed Hoover for The Great Depression - and worshipped Roosevelt for Saving The Country. Never mind if it was true or not - man in the street experienced real, tangible benefits (free cheese every month!) and the myth continues to this day.

They'll probably call it 'mental illness'. There seems to be an epidemic of mental illness among Muslims.

I decided that if there could be beach books then there were beach movies - huge unwieldy pics one constantly heard about but no one ever saw. And the beach movie of all time would be Heaven's Gate know as the worst movie ever. Why do they still talk about it? Why was it the worst movie ever? Watched the whole thing in the new three hours+ cut and it is the worst movie I have ever seen. The chief reason is that the "action" is soooo slooow becauseeeeeeeveerryy beeeeeyooouuuttiiiffuuuuulllll shot is prrrrsseeennteeeeddd innnnnnnn ffuuuullllll wiiiiittttthhhooouuuut aaaannnnyyy eeeeeeeddddddddiiiiitttttiiiiinnnng and with aaaaaaaa lllllllooottttt ooooffff rererereppepepepttiitiiiiooon. AAAAAAAAAnnnnnddddd yyyyyooooooouuuuuuu sseeeee wwwhhhhhheeeeeeerrrrreeeee ttttthhheeeyyyy aaaarrrreee ggggggooooooiiiinnnggg aaaaandd yyyyooouuuuuu jjjjuuuussssstttttt wwwaaaannnnt ttttttthhhhhheeeeeemmmmm tttttoooo hhhuuuurrrryyy uuupppp annnd ssshhhhooott alllllll ttthhheee ppppppppoooooooorrrrrrr RRRRuuuuuussssiiiiaaannn immmmiiiiggggrrrraaaannnnnnntttt / rrrrruuusssttttllllleeerrr / hhhhooommeesssttteaaaadddeeers - get get get get itititit ooooooooooover with. Please.

Cimino's West which was settled by Russian immigrants, who battled omnipresent mud and dense industrial smoke to get to roller skating rinks and cock fights was a surprise to me. But it wasn't the alt-reality - it was the sssssllllllloooooowwwwww aaaaaacccccctttttiiiiioooooonnnnnnn. SSSSSSSSSSoooooooooooooooo SSSSSSSSSLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's a tip. If you watch the first fifteen minutes you will see why it is the worst movie ever and yet still talked about. It has some beautiful photography, in fact a lot of beautiful, a lot, and after two hours a lot and a lot and more stillllll ttttoooooo ccccoooommmeee.

I admit: I am not reading Althouse as obsessively as I had before.

Which was obsessively: I am an obsessive person. I do obsessive things.

But -- that said -- I am tired of Trump and Hillary. There is nothing new to add: everything just becomes that past thing I read that reminded me of the thing I read prior to that -- insert Infinity here.

So I thought: What Was It Like a Year Ago Today? Surely there were bathroom-gender wars and cake decorations and the like, freeing us from these numbing Politics...

So...

Althouse August 23, 2015:

"But if gender were nothing more than a social convention, why was it necessary for Caitlyn Jenner to undergo facial surgeries, take hormones and remove her body hair?"

GOOD SO FAR!

"2 very different interviews about Hillary Clinton's email troubles, this morning on Fox News Sunday."

UH OH...

"Should socialists support Bernie Sanders?"

HUH?

"As Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush get more testy, Donald Trump gets more chesty."

WHAT? JEB? FUCK ME!

"Jeb Bush has a Photoshopped photo for an ad which gives him a black left hand and much different looking body. Jeb just can’t get it right!"

JEB AGAIN?! WE WERE TALKING ABOUT JEB THEN? JEB?!?! AWWW FUCK..."

"Last night, I had a dream about Hillary Clinton."

AND NOW WE ARE BACK..."

Not a Gay Cake in a Transsexual Bathroom anywhere.

It has been like this for a Year?

Really?

Please, Althouse: do a post on Steve Buscemi. I don't care if the news is ten years old, please just give me his awful wonderful smile in a picture that I can wake up to...

I am Laslo.

wildswan: The Deer Hunter has a similar failing for the first half the movie. It just drags on and on and on and without the beautiful shots given it is filmed in an industrial town in Pennsylvania. Then we get to the war and things get moving rather briskly. Frankly, the first half of the movie could be 15 minutes and the audience really wouldn't miss it.

Sprezzatura said...

Laslo is right. I don't know how many of y'all can hang here for extended periods when the professor's Althouse-right shtick rolls on and on w/ the exact same items pushing her blog button, year after year.

What, HRC is sick? What, Benghazi? That's so new! And, Interesting!! Or, not:

http://althouse.blogspot.com/2013/01/the-clinton-clot-plot-thickens-or-thins.html

Medical quackery is cool, in fact questioning this quackery just emboldens AA. But, anything less than clinical examinations are completely unacceptable when mental health is the political cudgel du jour. Got it.

Also, eternal fussing about Benghazi and email are always uber interesting. Got it, too.

Apparently she's got you hooked just as bad. You'll never leave.

Sprezzatura said...

"It worked for 60 years when they blamed Hoover for The Great Depression - and worshipped Roosevelt for Saving The Country."

I understand that WWII and the Great Depression where nothing compared to standing in front of a wall and demanding its removal. But, they were not completely un-noteworthy.

Sprezzatura said...

"You'll never leave."

I definitely leave. But, I'll dip a toe back in every now and then. Until it's too hard to ignore the cracks in the façade.

Sprezzatura said...

As I've suggested before, why doesn't Althouse give up on the need to post every day.

Following the Althouse directive, I'd never take a guess at mental issues such as where a person may be on the Asperger spectrum. So w/ that off the table, why can't Althouse spend more time w/ real life and then only post when something is worthy of being posted? What's more important, the number of days with contiguous posts, or the quality of the posts? For someone who claims to care about being interesting this should not be a tricky question.

Sprezzatura said...

Althouse should be more 21st century. That I know of, she's done some video stuff. How about Meade tapes her opening jars. It could be an edited montage. How many jars can AA open in a month?

Also, has Althouse heard of Tumblr? Just sayin.

Jon Ericson said...

Do go on.

Sprezzatura said...

OTOH, it's sorta nice to know that golden year types will always (well, not really always, just sayin) have an old school, but comfortable internet blog where they can get together and be worked up about progs changing America for the worse.

Quant ain't necessarily bad: irrelevant and uninteresting, but cathartic.

Sprezzatura said...

Jon,

Nobody was here to post comments to themselves. So I filled in until you arrived.

Sprezzatura said...

Althouse was, at one point, willing to switch platforms because Google would let future blog historians have have access to her supposedly valuable archive of posts (or something like that). Setting aside asking why in the world anyone in the future would look at these posts, if AA thinks it's important to be important, why not switch to a newer format and have less repetition? I.e., why not be less worn out and trivial?

Is Althosue's imagined future blog researcher really going to waste their time if the Jan 1 2013 post I linked to above is the same thing Althouse is doing today?

Sprezzatura said...

"Google would let future"

should be:

...Google would not let future...

Sprezzatura said...

For the record, Laslo was the instigator. I just fleshed it out.

Sprezzatura said...

Some things work at first, but then they don't.

I know Althouse will eventually get it. Haven't seen many Palin posts for a while.

I suppose she does it because this is important.
The Romans, both plebs and patricians, spent a lot of time in the forum. There was a lot to work out.
This is a little corner of the modern forum.

And an interesting document, the Decree of the Levee en masse (1793) of the French National Convention, written by Carnot. One line reads -
"..the old men shall repair to the public places, to stimulate the courage of the warriors and preach the unity of the Republic and the hatred of kings."
Or such matters as are more pertinent at the time I suppose.

Nowadays, progs like PBandJ_LeDouanier love their kings and queens. They are fighting to maintain the status quo, which rewards corrupt pols like Hillary. They wouldn't dream of afflicting the comfortable.

I liked the Deer Hunter too. Probably that's why I wondered about Heaven's Gate. The trouble is Heaven's Gate never speeded up - no scene left behind. And there were story line problems I didn't go into aside from the Russian presence (the absence of the Indians and the Spanish) and how wet the West was in this version - like Chris's perfect grooming and his beautifully pressed suit throughout - rides, gunfights, sleazy hotels - no matter- a crisply pressed suit and perfect hair added that ludicrous touch to all the "action".

I wonder if Ozanne will prosecute that teen shooter in Fitchburg. The victim was shot in the back; I wonder if he was shot in the "back" back, or in the front back like Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, and Sylville Smith, due to a peculiarity of African anatomy.

They expect to get something for it, that's the only way I can understand how they sell out their professed values so thoroughly. Maybe they can explain, but they don't, so I am pretty sure they can't.
