A dialogue about those terrible things Trump says.

Trump said: "I thought Chelsea did a nice job [at the convention]. You know, Chelsea likes Ivanka and Ivanka likes Chelsea. I wish they didn’t like each other, but they do."

Prompting this dialogue at Facebook (in which I am one of the participants):
X: Trump: bringing people together (except his daughter and her friend, who he'd rather keep apart).

Y: I wonder if I could get paid as a Trump translator. I know what he means!

X: What does it say about him if he needs a translator? It's important for the president to communicate!

Y: Seems he's done pretty well with his communicating, but people who oppose him are taking advantage of opportunities to act like they don't understand him. We'll see how these cross-purposes resolve themselves.

Z: This actually makes sense, even if on first hearing it, it doesn't sound right. A lot of what he says, though, just can't be translated into anything a decent person would ever say.

Y: You reverted to pointing at all those other things after you were prompted to observe what makes sense of this one. I challenge you to focus individually on the other things and put them, one by one, through an equivalent effort. There must be a name for the logical fallacy you are committing here. Think about it. You believe there is a pile of evidence that X is true, and when you examine one item, it doesn't show X is true, so you point to that pile. It's over there....

Excellent. That's indeed an important fallacy. I've observed it in some climate change discussions, especially about particular parts of the field. About the Hockey Stick in particular, Steve McIntyre (climateaudit.org) has done a outstanding job of detailed devastating critiques of every proxy study that claims to show a hockey stick, for more than a decade now. Generally, even experts in the field admit that each individual critique is correct, and eventually in each study the experts have withdrawn the claims and/or made corrections (usually without acknowledging him). But the fallback always has been, But there a whole lot of other studies that show the same result, this is just one of many, so the result remains true! Not too many of the experts acknowledge that he has punched big holes in every single one of the studies as they come down the pike.
Not a comment on the rest of climate science; McIntyre's specialty is hockey sticks.

In God and Philosophy, Anthony Flew called that the "nine leaky buckets" fallacy. After the accusing Muslim Dad called The Donald out for bad Muslims killing his son and Trump then not wanting millions more of them brought over here, I thought he would have to keep his mouth shut.

But the Queens kid in him just rambled on about why Momma Muslim had to keep silent. He attacked back at the weakness of the opponent. And the wrestling match goes on.

It is like Trump never accepts domination from opponents, be they Muslims that demand submission from everybody or Dems that claim it from everybody. I think that is why he cannot see how Ivanka and Chelsea can do it, just as if there is a safe place to be a neutral in a war.

Richelieu may have said this, but it has been perfected by the modern political class, of which the media is part. Every powerful person says lots of things which their opponents take out of context to portray them as dumb, evil, clueless, etc.

Of course part of Trump's appeal is he has such a powerful brand he can say all sorts of things which would hang any other person. I suppose this has always been important but he's showing its more important now than ever before.

The perfectly understandable sentiment of a loving father. Allow me to construct an illustrative story, call it the Parable of the Prosecutor.

There was once was a Mafia don who had a bright and charismatic daughter. The young woman attended a major university, entered the business world on her strengths, and formed many personal friendships, one of these being the daughter of a career prosecutor specializing in organized crime. When the prosecutor learned of the misalliance between his daughter and the daughter of the Mafiosi, he advised her that the friendship was unwise, that someday soon he would be duty-bound to bring her friend's father to trial, which would inevitably lead to the friendship ending in hatred.

President Trump will reopen the case of the United States v. Hillary Rodham Clinton, which will likely result in humiliation for the entire Clinton household if not a stay in prison. How will Chelsea react? Will her friendship with Ivanka endure unchanged, or will a vengeful Clinton operative try to strike back at Trump through that relationship?

Is Donald Trump lying about having received a letter from the NFL complaining about the schedule for the presidential debates?

The issue first came up last night in a Trump tweet, in which the republican nominee attributed blame for the schedule —which is made well in advance by the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates — to Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee.

Then, Trump gave an interview to ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, in which he claimed that the NFL was up in arms about the debate schedule.

I got a letter from the NFL saying, ‘This is ridiculous. Why are the debates against—’ ‘Cause the NFL doesn’t wanna go against the debates. ‘Cause the debates are gonna be pretty massive, from what I understand, Okay? And I don’t think we should be against the NFL.

But the league is denying Trump’s account. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told CNN’s Brian Stelter that the league never sent the candidate any such letter.

Original Mike said...

http://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-presidential-debate-hillary-clinton-2016-7

The presidential debates are organized by the Commission on Presidential Debates, a nonpartisan group that announced dates for the general-election match-ups nearly one year ago, and long before Trump won his party's nomination.

Trump doubled down on the accusations Saturday in an ABC News interview with George Stephanopoulos: "I got a letter from the NFL saying 'This is ridiculous. Why are the debates against prime-time games,'" Trump said.

He added: "The NFL doesn't want to go against the debates, because the debates are going to be pretty massive from what I understand."

The NFL appears to have debunked Trump's claim that the football league reached out to him. Here's CNN's Brian Stelter: "Top NFL spokesman tells me 'While we'd obviously wish the debate commission could find another night, we did not send a letter to Trump.'"

Trump famously ducked out of a Republican primary debate that was broadcast on Fox News in January, choosing instead to host a fundraiser for veterans in a competing time slot. The fundraiser's outcome turned out to be less than favorable for Trump.

Here's what Khan said, I assume that this is what got UA so spun up and it seems to be what Trump was questioning:

Donald Trump consistently smears the character of Muslims. He disrespects other minorities, women, judges, even his own party leadership. He vows to build walls and ban us from this country.

Donald Trump, you are asking Americans to trust you with our future. Let me ask you: Have you even read the U.S. Constitution? I will gladly lend you my copy. In this document, look for the words "liberty" and "equal protection of law."

He certainly had a legal right to say this. Seems to me that since he does not know what he is talking about he had no moral right. YMMV as they say, though.

He certainly had no legal or factual basis for this

1) He has no more idea than a goat whether Trump read or understand the constitution.

2) As a factual, legal, matter the president and/or Congress have the absolute right to restrict the entry to the US by any alien for any reason. Could be because they are Muslim. Could be because they come from a country that exports terror. Could be because we have too many Elbonians already (Country quotas). Could be health issues. Could be because they have green eyes or red hair.

Any reason at all.

So no, equal protection of the law does not apply to an alien wanting to come to the US, though it does apply to one already here.

And since there is no question we can ban entry, there is no Constitutional reason we can't build a wall or do pretty much anything else necessary to enforce our laws.

"Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on."

"Entering" implies they are coming in for the first time. Muslim citizens are not "entering" the US after traveling abroad. They are returning, coming home, just like a non-Muslim citizen coming home from a trip doesn't say, "I am entering the US." That's how I understood what Trump said. He wasn't referring to all Muslims or a permanent ban or saying anything about all Muslims.

I'm another Trump translator.

Your translator is wrong.

There are no explicit constitutional rights for US Citizens to travel abroad and to return to the US. Hence, the 10th amendment should have that covered. Or does it?

When are people ever going to bring up the fact that Hillary is HIDING from the press and the American people and won't take questions?

When Hillary announces her intentions not to debate Trump...late on Friday 9/2, just before Labor Day.

After that it will be old news and we will be told to move on.

Trump would prefer that his daughter not be friends with trailer trash.

Who would be against that?

Who would want their child to have anything to do with graft, corruption and, with Bill, sexual depravity.

I still say it was a joke.

I get it.

Freder: This is a Dick Morris lie. When Hillary interned with Truehaft's law firm, he was no longer a member of the Communist Party, and was never "head of the California Communist Party".
