Just read that Michael Herr, who was a reporter who spent time in Vietnam, has died at 76. He wrote the book 'Dispatches' about his experience in Vietnam.
So, let's see a show of hands. When the phone rings, and the caller ID shows "opinion USA" or some other such bullshit, how many of us (excluding Trigglypuff, the five Unknowns, Shiloh, ARM et al) pick up the phone and tell the Unknown entity, that we support Trump? ARE YOU NUTS? Ann, Have you covered this yet?
The wife is watching the US Olympic 10 meter board dive trials in Indianapolis. I understand why. There are a lot of guys that look good in a speedo, but there is one guy named Steele Johnson.
I did see a brave soul driving in front of me last week with a Trump sticker on his car but it's rare. OTOH, I haven't really seen any Hillary stickers, either...
Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren talk a lot about "income inequality". Hillary tries this too, but since she and hubby Bill made $153 million over the past decade, it's pretty phony.
But I digress.
Income inequality. Yes, some folks make more than you, and some folks make less than you. A homeless guy probably thinks Bernie is rich should share the wealth a bit. It depends on one's vantage point.
So, Yes, there is income inequality. There is also height inequality, weight inequality, IQ inequality, SAT score inequality, GPA inequality, work ethic inequality, good judgment inequality, drug use inequality, and a buncha other "inequalities" too.
The reason America works is because people are taught to strive to become better despite the many inequalities.
Honorable liberals used to recognize this. Now, they don't. They mostly whine and claim victim status.
So far madAsHell wins the thread, but I'm sad to hear about Michael Herr.
Over at Slate Richard Posner argues that it's not important for S. Ct. Justices to study constitutional history. Hope he doesn't find out that there are still some idiots out there who think the Melian Dialogue is worth reading.
Somehow this seems like the first election cycle where the media has dropped all pretense at professionalism and all efforts to hide the fact that they are in bed with the Democratic Party. I think that since all of the other parents at Sidwell Friends and Harvard Westlake say that Trump is beyond the pale, it's OK to call him a racist xenophobic bigot as if that's a statement of fact rather than opinion. No wonder they are dismayed by his success.
What's going on with the Orlando shooter's wife? If she is really missing, why isn't it a huge news story with updates from the FBI and the press hiring detectives to find her? If she's not really missing, why not just say so? The current media "limbo" seems very odd..
Uhh, If you want to make a comment that makes sense like this one, please lose the Unknown moniker as we treat comments from "Unknown" as being from lower beings. Try Anonymous #7 for a starter. Cheers!

Jon God brought me here, now, to THIS moment: I was born to be here. This is MY time. I will remember what happens here tonight for the rest of my life, as will the guy Kurt Russell played in "Miracle."
Capitol fans ought to know who coached Mark Johnson at Lake Placid, yes yes?

And regarding Will, he showed O’Reilly to be no more than the Left has accused him of for decades. And Rush too, with the whole “Baxter” persuasion employed. I hadn’t watched The Factor in years and years, because in fact I hate the idea of paying for cable. Paying for commercials, in 2011 or now? WTF? But I watched Will and O’Reilly and hated myself for concerning my time with the likes of them, even while concluding Will go the better of that exchange by not seeming deranged and drug-seeking.

I take credit for all words typed hence: I deserve no credit as our (dear) Jon aptly observes.
It was evening when we came to the river With a low moon over the desert that we had lost in the mountains, forgotten, what with the cold and the sweating and the ranges barring the sky. And when we found it again, In the dry hills down by the river, half withered, we had the hot winds against us. There were two palms by the landing; The yuccas were flowering; there was a light on the far shore, and tamarisks. We waited a long time, in silence. Then we heard the oars creaking and afterwards, I remember, the boatman called us. We did not look back at the mountains.
I am happy to confirm my hatred of dialectic limitations; sad it's true.
THE LIMIT IS THERE. OR HERE.
Yet without God man is much worse than horribly-equipped to vanquish for posterity the seemingly everlastingly fresh foe (Satan) thereby ending the offspring's fight to our abilities best vision's song carries.
The Iraqis supposed kicked ISIS out of Fallujah. That means a bunch of ISIS guys probably ex-filtrated, but probably without anything heavier than an AK. Good news, still.
Boy is that ever not our fight. We should stay the Hell away until the grown-ups in that neighborhood get the job done, as is their duty as civilized humans.
Income inequality. Yes, some folks make more than you, and some folks make less than you. A homeless guy probably thinks Bernie is rich should share the wealth a bit. It depends on one's vantage point.
The United States developed an economic system where people with some talent are economically encouraged to work hard, generally to the net betterment of society. Someone with talent who works hard will be paid more than someone with comparable talent who coasts by on his talent. Someone with talent who works hard will, as a general rule, make more than someone who has less talent but a comparably good work ethic. Good luck will help (Gary Kildall dropping the ball when IBM came calling to license CP/M) and bad luck will hurt, but on the whole talent + hard work beats no talent and laziness.
Is there something wrong with that?
I can imagine sports teams where there is no difference in salary between the starters, the super stars, and the people at the end of the bench. I don't think they'd be very good teams, do you?
But more to the point, for all the talk that Democrats have about "doing something" to end income inequality, with big donors like George Soros and Tom Steyer they quite literally wouldn't have a party. So it's all talk, all about fooling the gullible.
Both political parties are in the pocket of their donors, which explains why a large portion of the voters are pissed. It doesn't matter if you are left or right, if your views are different than the donors, you are out of luck. I think the old guard is starting crumble this cycle and, no matter what one thinks of Trump or Bernie, i think they have changed the way the game will be played in the future.
I can see why Hillary and her supporters are so upset with the Brexit. After all, it has been terrible for bank stocks and her paymasters at Goldman Sachs cannot be at all happy!

The founder of Home Depot endorsed Trump today. He's not George Will but we will take all the help we can get,
Speaking of green bud, Has anybody seen Ritmo?
Perhaps he was too busy in Sacramento.
This is the first presidential campaign where I would be afraid to put a bumper sticker on my vehicle or a sign in my yard for fear of vandalism.
Man, do you have that right.
" I would be afraid to put a bumper sticker on my vehicle"
The only Trump bumper sticker I have seen was on a Tesla.
I thought it was hilarious. Talk about buying immunity !

Purple haze, all in my brain
Lately things they don't seem the same
Actin' funny, but I don't know why
Excuse me while I kiss the sky
Well, I done mucked it up. I didn't intend the extra spaces, yet you'll never hear me declaim it didn't happen.
Shame! you broke Ann's rules.
No, No, No! No long white spaces.
I forgive you. But Ann will not.
So, my friend Guild...
Are you happy, or sad?
Where do you think things are going?
Up?
Down?
Sideways?
People are Strange.
Great song.
Nods off.
It was evening when we came to the river
With a low moon over the desert
that we had lost in the mountains, forgotten,
what with the cold and the sweating
and the ranges barring the sky.
And when we found it again,
In the dry hills down by the river,
half withered, we had
the hot winds against us.
There were two palms by the landing;
The yuccas were flowering; there was
a light on the far shore, and tamarisks.
We waited a long time, in silence.
Then we heard the oars creaking
and afterwards, I remember,
the boatman called us.
We did not look back at the mountains.
Well, I done mucked it up. I didn't intend the extra spaces, yet you'll never hear me declaim it didn't happen.
's OK Brethren

I don't either, so let us both rejoice!

My favorite part of Notquite's shtick was when he mangled English like that. "Who" and "whom" were special bugbears for that guy.

I know, right? Yet still Hillary's toadies are bursting with pride that she is able to get into the mid 40s against the execrable Trump!
Whichever is elected is going to be the most hated president in modern times, making Nixon look like a piker in that regard.
I can see why Hillary and her supporters are so upset with the Brexit. After all, it has been terrible for bank stocks and her paymasters at Goldman Sachs cannot be at all happy!
