We just booked 6 days at Stratford Festival where we will see Chorus Line, MacBeth, As You Like It, All My Sons and Breath of Kings-Rebellion.
Live plays with the best acting is worth a 2 hour Delta non-stop. Can't wait to hear what the Canadians think of The Donald. They already hate all the US tourists who say they are Amuricans. Talk about an inferiority complex.
Interesting remark from Andrew Klavan, on my complaint that sex scenes in romantic comedies are always all wrong.
It's a hollywood gimick for they care about each other, see they're touching each other fondly etc. Instead of showing that they care about each other.
It's not supposed to be right.
Sort of like media reports of the causes of plane crashes aren't supposed to be right. An impossibly wrong narrative is always substituted. It means the plane crashed and this represents the actual reason, a place holder.
Beautiful photo, professor. Saw similar irises the other day at the Connecticut College Arboretum in New London, CT, although not as spectacular as this one.
I did not know - until a month or so ago - that you also have a New London in Wisconsin...
Those early Yankees weren't too original when it came to naming the towns in New England...Here in CT we have:
These are all separate entities in CT...different towns with different taxes, different forms of government - some have First Selectmen, some have Board of Aldermen, some have a "strong" mayor, some have town-or city councils with a figurehead mayor - how do you do things up in America's Dairyland, or elsewhere?
"They already hate all the US tourists who say they are Amuricans."
Lots of Canadian medical tourists. When my daughter was going to law school in Spokane, we used to stay at a B&B when visiting and it was always full of Canadians down seeing doctors in Spokane. The medical centers there are three time the size for the area. Half the patients are Canadians.
A good episode, but no OMFG moments like the first four episodes had this year. A nice couple of reveals however. Maybe a six or seven out of ten?
Preacher:
Quite a bit different from the comic, but the spirit is there. The make up on Arseface is acceptable. having the guy cut his own heart out was OK..but I would have preferred the original Sheriff root story line instead..maybe it will still happen, but I bet not.
It'll be interesting to see if there are protests about the show...if it is true to the comic, it will get very blasphemous.
I'll repost it. This is the final paragraph from Cheever's "Goodbye, My Brother." I am convinced he wrote it, the final paragraph, before he wrote the rest of the story. The rhythm is too perfect. It is complicated. I can't quite identify the metrical foot.
“Oh, what can you do with a man like that? What can you do? How can you dissuade his eye in a crowd from seeking out the cheek with acne, the infirm hand; how can you teach him to respond to the inestimable greatness of the race, the harsh surface beauty of life; how can you put his finger for him on the obdurate truths before which fear and horror are powerless? The sea that morning was iridescent and dark. My wife and my sister were swimming--Diana and Helen--and I saw their uncovered heads, black and gold in the dark water. I saw them come out and I saw that they were naked, unshy, beautiful, and full of grace, and I watched the naked women walk out of the sea.”
I want to talk about the idea that the press will chase anything NOT "progressive" in their eyes, but things that occur to normal people, things we'd like to see investigated are avoided. Completely.
In a time where people can get press saying they are going to purge Jefferson because he owned slaves, we have a President that bowed to a Saudi king. There is a story where LIVING SURVIVORS of Saudi slavery (illegal 1962) is just waiting to be written. Seems like an obvious Duhlitzer to anybody who cared to make a few phone calls. Now that I mentioned it I feel pretty certain that's a DEAD end.
I talk about that, and other crazy things, in "WE Republicans" which is available free because some things just HAVE to be reviewed.

Irises are, I think, the most beautiful of flowers.

Val Jarrett on "60 Minutes." Just like Barack. Off the charts arrogance and cluelessness.
