Malaysia elects their "king" from nine families of hereditary rulers... Sounds like what the billionaires have in mind for the Democrat and Republican parties here in the US. Too bad Sanders and Trump couldn't have been kept from running somehow.
That article is definitely worth a reading. My favorite line was the government official defending the existence of free speach in Malaysia, but doing so anonymously.
If a group like that gathered in DC wearing "Clean" shirts to protest Hillary's money grabbing and Obama's legal shenanigans the NYT would portray them as racist, sexist, backward, shot-gun pumping, cousin humping, religious-extremist wackos.
The link informs us that the "Clean" T-shirts were worn in protest of government corruption. Thus the ban. Solution: have thousands upon thousands wear them. You can't throw a hundreds of thousands in jail without severely clogging up the system.
"Malaysia elects their "king" from nine families of hereditary rulers"
So did Poland pretty much, and other countries also. Not a strange setup. The king is a constitutional monarch. Power and its abuse is in the hands of elected politicians.
Just a note: there are very few places on earth that value, by law, individual rights above the authority of government, or the good of society as a whole (as defined by the authority of government). I thank God I was born in the United States, every time I am reminded of this.

So was it the "Malaysian Trust and Safety Council" that banned the T-Shirt?

CWJ beat be to it:
“The reality in Malaysia is that there is freedom of expression without fear of prosecution,” he said, speaking on the condition of anonymity.
Um, suuuuure.

Google says that that comment means "Want a clean face, white without acne." That's pretty funny.
