"I would say in some ways these have been among the worst weeks of my life," said Trey Gowdy, the chair of the House Benghazi committee.

"Attacks on your character, attacks on your motives, are 1,000-times worse than anything you can do to anybody physically — at least it is for me."

"Gowdy faces the biggest moment of his political career when he squares off with Clinton this Thursday. But as the chairman prepares for the showdown, he’s facing increasing pressure to salvage his panel’s reputation — and perhaps his own."

I don't know, did Gowdy's panel blame the deaths of American diplomats on an amateur-hour video for months on end? Did Gowdy or anyone on his panel beg off testifying due to brain damage? Did Gowdy or anyone on the panel have cronies who profited from the turmoil following the fall of the Libyan regime? Did they destroy evidence housed on equipment off the State Department's grid?

Do you get five dollars a troll comment, bbkingfish?

This was a political witch hunt directed at Hillary Clinton from the start. Now everyone knows it.

that's what playing politics will do...

So, your argument is that Hillary didn't violate law in regards to her email? Are any Dems Not hacks?

Once written, twice... said...

Of course she did not violate the law. What a bunch of Althouse Hillbilly dumbasses. Try winning on the issues and not some fantasy that you are going to win by throwing your opponents in prison.

It's a shame Republicans are weaponizing the government to shut down free speech they don't agree with. Gulags and Guillotines anyone?

I appreciate the hard work Gowdy has put in. I'm curious to see what comes out of the investigation.

Perhaps Hillary is entitled to some monetary damage. This partisan witch hunts by Republicans need to end.

Ken Starr is the exemplary figure. He didn't cheat on his wife, and he never paid for an ex girlfriend's abortion. We know this for a fact because the Dems investigated these matters thoroughly. No matter. The fact that he didn't cheat on his wife was prima facie evidence that he was a deeply repressed soul, just the sort of person to ask probing questions about the President's sex life for some weird, perverted reason. Ken Starr's investigation finished his own career and enhanced Clinton's speaking fees.........Someone on Gowdy's staff will screw up in some way. Bound to happen. This screw up will be featured in headlines, mocked by late night comics, and offered as demonstrative proof of how unreliable and malicious Gowdy is. That screw up will be his lasting legacy.

Does anyone remember Angels in America. In that play Ethel Rosenberg appears in one of Roy Cohn's fever dreams. She is a saintly, benign figure to whom Cohn appeals for mercy and forgiveness. There you have it. Being a closeted homosexual and a Republican are worse sins than being a traitor and feigning martyrdom to advance the Communist cause in the hierarchy of sins against humanity as defined by right minded liberals.

The coolest thing is that she told you that the attack was motivated by the video and you believed her! And the second coolest thing is that you don't give one shit about what really happened and are not in the least bit curious why they sent out Rice et al to tell a lie that was so obviously a lie that a child would know it was a lie and that the SOS told the father of one of the dead guys that the video guy was going to have to pay for it.

The third coolest thing is that you too believed that too.

Michael said...

Unlike OnceWrittenTwice you knew from the beginning that the video story was a lie. I'll give you that.

Kevin McCarthy represents everything wrong with the Republican Party at the federal level. (Well, the worst of what's wrong, anyway.) They have no firmly held principles, just tactics, and their overall goal is not to shrink the federal government, just to run it.

Ask McCarthy, what have you guys got to show for yourselves? and he answers in the only terms in which he's capable of thinking: Hey, you see those hearings on Hillary and Benghazi? Look what a dent they're putting in her poll numbers!

Then lots of liberals, using as is their wont the worst of Republicans to speak for all of them, yell, You see? It's a sham! For political reasons! They just admitted it!

Most of those shouting the loudest wouldn't care a bit if Mrs. Clinton had actually done exactly what her opponents accuse her of doing, with the worst possible consequences to national security; if she did it because Republicans are her enemies, as she proudly declared the other night, and to her and those who applauded, anything she does to gain the upper hand over them is justified.

Anonymous said...

Why the cover up?? Why the lies to the family about video tapes being the cause....Why the missing Benghazi e-mails?? (Gowdy JUST got the Ambassador Stevens e-mails from the state department. If there were no COVER UP...why did he just get them????) She is a liar. Obama is a Liar....and anyone who sticks up for them doesn't care that their leaders are lying to us.

Gowdy needs to improve his stamina or adopt the pro-choice doctrine as a psychological defense.

J said...

Does anybody remember the original purported reason for the Benghazi coverup. To protect the campaign of a sotting President.A blatantly political act.Z Goose or gander

TreeJoe said...

Two blatantly obvious things:

1. In all the investigations, the leadership showed both a complete inability to take actions that would have prevented Benghazi, mitigated it during the crisis, or resolved and secured the facility in the days following. Their messaging afterwards was disastrous, and no one has ever been held responsible who was involved in the attack. That's what the investigation has CONFIRMED - there's no smoking gun, it was just consistent laziness and lack of leadership across the board.

2. Our Sec of State for 4 years claims she used a personal e-mail server for convenience, corresponded with all sorts of high-level folks including head of the CIA in that role, and yet claims to have never sent or received anything classified (let alone secret or top secret). If that is true, isn't that a statement of irrelevance? Isn't that a statement that as Sec of State you didn't actually deal with serious problems? Or that your most senior advisers, also on your e-mail server, still themselves didn't either?

Whining. One more piece evidence, as if any were needed, that the GOP doesn't have its act together.

Maybe he'll redeem himself establishing something useful. I don't have high expectations.

But then, what difference, at this point, does it make?

Nothing will ever come of it

"Can you explain how her actions weren't in violation in regards to protected info? Her lawyer received classified info from her he wasn't qualified to have." (10:50 AM)

Unlike Petraeus, she wasn't screwing the recipient of the information. We know that because her lawyer is male. Other than that, if the information was classified, there are no obvious differences.

MadisonMan said...

@CWJ, I had the same reaction.

Sebastian said...

"No, it means that you don't know the abuse he's taking."

Sorry, but I expect tough GOP pols to take any such "abuse." It's part of having their act together. To anticipate the abuse, immunize themselves, dish it out instead of just taking it, making sure the troops are all on the same page, articulate a clear rationale for every action, etc. etc. And even if they have "one of the worst weeks," to have the good sense to shut up about it instead of whining like a clueless amateur, weakening his own position.

No one cares. Did you see any news reports about protestors outside the White House holding signs accusing the President of being responsible for the deaths of the Doctors Without Borders people we accidentally killed? Were there any such protests? No one cares, and the Media won't pretend to care when its a Dem Administration.
The sooner Republicans realize this the sooner they can move on to some other, less embarrassing strategy. They're not wrong to think "this type of thing should sink a candidate;" if that candidate was a Republican you can bet your ass it would. But if the Administration or the candidate or the person on the hot seat is a Democrat, the actual facts will not matter, and thinking "what a bombshell!" will only make you look foolish.
Gowdy seems like a fair, tough individual who actually cares about the process and cares about the truth. So what, he's an R. R's don't get to be right, they don't get to have their points (no matter how legitimate) aired. Sorry, Gowdy, no one cares.

As a father and uncle of family members who are gay, I just don't get Titus. There is no way in heck that he is converting anyone to his side.

Maybe out of the thousands of people who see his one note garbage (every topic can be turned into a gay themed diatribe), he changes one person's mind about one topic per year.

But that person is going from neutral to anti-gay. Guaranteed, nobody is going the other way.

But what about the damage he does to gays??? He's not smart, he's not witty, he's just vulgar, vulgar, vulgar.

Every comment is a scene from the worst of the Gay Parade Leather Boys.

I admit that I am one of those lurkers. I don't add anything to any of the conversations, but I stop by 5 times a day. And I should contribute.

But it really hurts me to see the only pro-gay person on this site (except the host, I guess) be such a dick. No couth, no pizzazz. Nothing of note.

Just blah blah blah...

My Fuck Partner is Brown, Tits. Fly Over Country Sucks, Tits.

He does nothing for "his community" and he does damage to the English language and to gays and to those that want to protect them and tell society that they are just like everyone else. He's a living Gay Float.

Basically,"TITS": You suck.

I am sad for you, your boring life that revolves not around exciting "Boston" things, but on this blog. You are obviously not out having glamorous nights with your tight ass lover, but you are here, day after day, night after lonely night, here. Laying down your lame old lines like a washed up David Bowie fan.

Whew. I feel better.

Good night all, go Giants.
