"The Big 10 is by far the most represented conference on the list of most email accounts listed in Ashley Madison registrations, with five of the top 10."

"Michigan State University leads all, with 696 accounts, followed by Penn State, 676, and Kent State (Tin soldiers and Nixon coming), at 653, according to Insider Higher Education."

The University of Wisconsin–Madison only has 119.

Ashley Madison? Never heard of it until now. My Spartans must lead in the number of enrollments there because we are better looking and more fun to be with. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Badgers, OTOH.......

The latest Princeton Review ranks UW-Mad as the #3 party school in the nation, so perhaps the young men and young women don't need a web site to find a hook up for the night.

Do people in Big Ten schools get to keep their school Email accounts after they graduate the way the University of Virginia allows its graduates to keep theirs? That may skew the rankings as men and women use their obscure university Email accounts to hide their activities from spouses.

What depresses me about this story is that so many men don't have the first clue how to get laid.

All of these PUA sites falling on deaf ears...

I find it repugnant that people get paid to place inane PR like that.

Monty Python satirized the phenomenon in "The News for Parrots," IIRC.

Ashley Madison was either a honeypot or an effort to promote/normalize an adulterous orientation. I wonder how the psychologists would discern causality and what would be their prescribed treatment.

I wonder if that is college girls looking for sugar daddy's?

The stupidity force in Big Ten Internet men is strong.

Seeking to start affairs with cheating married women is a subset of suicidal wishes. A sane person would not fall into that trap.

Weird. The post changed from Ashley Madison to Dylan, but the comments stayed Ashley Madison.

Yeah, I did something stupid. The original post will be back.

I have made that mistake before. I have a window open that is empty, but it's really the same window as one I've already used for a post. When I publish, it works as an update, replacing the old post, but as with any update, keeping the comments thread intact.

I was thinking people were putting comments in the wrong place... for about 4 seconds.

Well, considering the number of post you do, your error rate is remarkably small.

Thanks. I really do try not to mishandle anything and worry quite a bit about getting things wrong.

That said, I do hit publish with great confidence, thousands of times a year. It's hard to do this with too much caution. Caution has its own bad consequences.

I would honestly like to know how many people sign up just to see if they recognize anyone from their neighborhood or workplace.

Since when is Kent State part of the B1G?
According to Kent State's own website, the 'Golden Flashes' are still part of the Mid-American Conference.

Penn State? Where do these people find time to teach?

Althouse,

"Caution has its own bad consequences. "

Inside sources tell me that was Ashley Madison's #2 choice for a slogan.

The vice squad usually go after the low hanging fruit.

This whole scheme/racket appears to be a high-tech way to avoid being on John TV.
Which is important for most people. Not so much the scum of society.

Does anybody know how much it cost to sign up for Ashley Madison, and is there a Labor Day discount in prospect?

When did Kent State join the Big 10?

I don't believe in hookup websites.

I need something more organic and spontaneous-like meeting on the street; in the ATM or on a plane.

tits.

Geez, so far it looks like Ashley Madison is designed to get all the folks at Dem.inc laid.

Or:

UW Madison is ranked in the top 10 party schools so they don't need Ashley Madison.

Apparently Neighborhood Sportfucking is still alive and well in Madison.

Kent State is not a member of the B1G conference. Ann, did you check to see if the University of Maryland or Rutgers University were represented on the list? They are new members of the B1G; as is the University of Chicago (as respects Academics but not CFB).

Here are the "suggestions" from the official Penn State website for Penn State women who are going to a party. At a party they might suffer date rape and so they should behave like this:

"• Only drink from un-opened containers or from drinks you have
watched being made and poured
• Avoid group drinks like punch bowls
• Cover your drink. It is easy to slip in a small pill even while you
are holding your drink. Hold a cup with your hand over the top,
or choose drinks that are contained in a bottle and keep your
thumb over the nozzle"

Is this one reason while the Ashley Madison site was popular at Penn State?

I like the picture of lynx-eyed women watching the making of drinks; and especially of them holding drinks in one hand while covering the top with the other while watching for that small pill which is "easy to slip in even while you are holding your drink." I'm reading an interesting spy novel with this very theme. I did not know that this situation was common now at parties at Penn State. How little I know about the contemporary college scene and the freedom women now enjoy.
