It's part of the walk -- with much boardwalk out into the lake -- along Lake Wingra. The "Sister Stevie" spot has this new pier but has long been identified as the place where Sister Stevie used to fish. It's connect to Edgewood College.
For a grumpy old man wanting to go to sleep, last night was an annoyance, but on the other hand it is encouraging to know that this is still the U.S. of A., and there are plenty of citizens with moxie who are going to celebrate the 4th of July with highly illegal fireworks regardless of the huffing and puffing of the joy police!
In other news, Ridgid has a hand-crank snake ("Kwik-Spin") that really works. It is a bit heavy and takes a lot of cranking for 25 ft, and it will set you back $30+ with tax, but it is worth it.
Also "easy to use," which is true if you have ready access to the clean-out, but for me was a bit awkward, hanging over the gas dryer, which I moved out a little, but did not want to disconnect.
I have used a cheaper product with a tin drum in the past, that twisted the cable, but did not feed it, and hand-feeding it always was a chore, especially when the cable hit a bend, and I had to force it through by jabbing and jabbing until it finally went. This rig finally twisted and doubled up on itself within the pipe and I had a heck of a time getting it out.
The "Kwik-spin" feeds the cable, and I never even knew when it was going through a bend; it was that easy. The cable is stronger and has what looks like a plastic core, which must be what makes it work so nice. However, the cable feeds very slowly, so it was a lot of cranking for the full 25 ft.
The 4th of July fishing contest at the pond in the backyard was a resounding success. Six grandchildren caught 28 fish, a sprinkling of hybrid bluegill, yellow perch and bass. The largest fish, a 12 1/2" bass, won first prize. Two grandchildren caught ten each.
@Hagar, we enjoyed the fireworks in downtown Wheeling last night . I hope this tradition never goes away. Bonus was coming back to the hotel and finding a whole bunch of kids (baseball teams) who were staying at the hotel doing their fireworks on the hill next to our hotel.
Wooo. USA womens scored 4 against Japan in first 15 minutes with Carli Lloyd making 3 of those. And yeah, check out pm317's link. I wasn't there, but family was - texting. So exciting. The star - well, the sun - was on their side.

That looks like the dock at my daughter's apartment complex in South Carolina.

For example this shot.

"Stevie was undoubtedly one of the most beloved Dominican Sisters ever to work and serve the Edgewood community. Her door and heart was always open to all students, faculty and staff in the full spirit of the Dominican values, so much so that an award was created in her name and given to one Edgewood person each year that exemplifies and embodies the mission and vision of our College and the Dominican way of living."

Do you have a sister named "Stevie"?
Interesting, Hagar, but I'm seeing "discontinued" and "hard to use." ?
Where's the sign that says %&@# the alligators?
I grew up back east in upstate New York so, sad to say, one of the first thoughts I have when I see a scene like this is
mosquitoes

What a great day!
This is my pic on my travels this weekend -- it looks kind of funky and special but it was in front of a MacDonalds.

Paddleboarded today, mid-day. Lake was packed!!
Finally! Felt like summer today.
Did I miss a conversation about low voltage cable? All these years, and I miss it.
Go USA!! Go Carli!

I love to fish!
...besides fish, I have caught a pelican, a camera, and a scuba diver.
I am talented like that.
Was the scuba diver a keeper? Or did you toss him back?
