I am thinking that Obama's HUD new initiative to spred integrated housing around is sort of at odds with the long-standing Democrat practice of gerrymandering voting districts around segregated black areas.
Wonder who will win out? The bureaucrats or the machine politicians?
My young son had surgery for a hernia repair this morning. He came through it like a champ. Each kid in his third-grade class wrote individual get-well cards for him, using all kinds of paper and their own encouraging words. Many of them drew pictures of some of my son's favorite things, like SpongeBob SquarePants, ice cream, and fire trucks. Really sweet set of cards from really fine girls and boys.

Actually the reason why I wanted to post a comment to a café thread was to protest your Congressman Paul Ryan channeling Nancy Pelosi when commenting on the trade bill he is shepherding through the House. We'll find out what's in it after it's passed? Yeah, that worked so well with Obamacare, didn't it? All I can say is that from what's been leaked about this bill it's a far cry from something that would be supported by a guy who credited the philosophy of Ayn Rand with getting him into politics.
(Yes, I know that Madison isn't in the 1st Congressional District, still he is from Wisconsin.)
OK, time for new Obama shenanigans! And, we have some experience with this kind of thing in our neighborhood. We have a seniors apartment nearby and when we bought our house, the neighborhood was peaceful, not many cars and so on. We were told it was run by the county. Then fast forward to 2008, Habitat (think Jarrett) started running it. Soon after, our streets were clogged with old, beat up (and huge) cars and old vans. Residents didn't look like they were senior citizens. We all complained and registered our protest and now in the last couple of years, it has been nice and we are less worried about our property values. I am not heartless. They should make neighborhoods affordable and enjoyable for everybody. By the same token, those new residents should respect and contribute to how we have maintained the neighborhood and follow the unsaid rules.
Ugly match between Thailand and Ivory Coast in Women's World Cup. Ivory Coast which received 6 yellor cards while being destroyed in their first match engages in foul after vicious foul and the referee never levies a card. The play was very sloppy. It seemed like lack of skill but with that many fouls you never know. Awful officiating, truly incompetent. This was a game between two teams who have no chance for the title, and probably will get little notice. It should, because it's another big fail by FIFA.
Could have phrased the above post better, but this is an interesting development. Popcorn and soda in order!
Another note is that at present I think there is more conflict on the ground about the gentry moving back to the city than there is about black citizens moving to the suburbs.
Ideologues are of course usually "fighting the last war."
and, I just listened to Megyn Kelly and her guests (on both sides) totally missing the inconsistencies in Democrat policies in these matters, and what the resuts of these new programs are likely to be.
I used to hate that too. Now, I use it ironically. It gave me great pleasure, when the boss so sorrowfully gave me my notice, to say hey, no problem. I had figured out only the week before that I could afford to retire. Ah it was a lovely moment I wish I could relive every day.
So now when I really don't give a shit, I say, no problem. Which is why it irritated me to begin with,
And while I am at it, I quite agree with the now former school principal in Florida about the cop in the McKinney brouhaha.
I think the City of McKinney wants to make this go away and avert a DoJ strike on their fair community and so struck an agreement with Officer Casebolt to make that happen.
I do not see in that video that the officer "lost control of himself," but that he moved very fast in a controlled fashion, picking out the most active troublemakers and ordering them to go sit down on the sidewalk, which they then mostly did. That done he went after the girl, who had been wandering back and forth across the intersection loudly encouraging the troublemakers, despite having been ordered to shut up and sit down. Two young men then came to her defense, and it clearly looked to me that they were about to jump him, so he reached for his gun and showed it to them - did not point it that I can see - and they decided they had urgent business elsewhere. Corporal Casebolt then sent one of the other officers after the young men who had threatened him and went back to the girl, who apparently had gone hysterical at being treated in such a rude fashion, so he grabbed her head by the hair and turned her face down in the grass to shut her up, and put his knee on her back to hold her down while he calmly looked around to assess the situation, which by then had quieted down - largely due to Officer Casebolt's quick and energetic actions as far as I can see.
I am thinking that Obama's HUD new initiative to spred integrated housing around is sort of at odds with the long-standing Democrat practice of gerrymandering voting districts around segregated black areas.
They're using illegal immigrants to try and create new Democratic districts out of former Republican districts.
Fernandinande linked... Low reproducibility rates within life science research undermine cumulative knowledge production and contribute to both delays and costs of therapeutic drug development. An analysis of past studies indicates that the cumulative (total) prevalence of irreproducible preclinical research exceeds 50%, resulting in approximately US$28,000,000,000 (US$28B)/year spent on preclinical research that is not reproducible—in the United States alone. We outline a framework for solutions and a plan for long-term improvements in reproducibility rates that will help to accelerate the discovery of life-saving therapies and cures.
Wanna know the reason for that?
It's the shift in drug discovery for private businesses to universities. Evil corporations couldn't afford those kinds of costly mistake, and in any case would only disclose bona fide patentable discoveries. With universities, it's a race to publish what leads and what sounds cool. If it's overblown, hey , at least they got the grant!

Not to beat a dead horse (according to my lovely spouse, beating a dead horse is my specialty), but this is a fascinating article comparing the aforementioned Pharoah to the deceased Secretariat.
A snippet: "Jerry Izenberg of the Newark Star Ledger, told one broadcast that he thought that the jockey, Ron Turcotte, was on top of a runaway animal (Secretariat). “I turned to the guy next to me,” Izenberg recalled, “and I said, ‘He’s lost the horse.’” Another racing scribe, William Nack, said that when he looked at the tele-timer and saw that Secretariat had run the first three quarters of a mile in 1:09:2, he started cursing the jockey. For he thought Turcotte had “gone insane” and was going to “kill the horse.” "
I'd put Susie (first Doberman) on a tied down-stay on a sidewalk edge and go into a store to wait and watch. If she held the down-stay for a few minutes, I'd come out and praise her and heel off.
If she moved for some temptation (which is the point), I got to run out and correct her back into the down-stay.
Which is not a punishment but a way of saying, yes you do have to hold the down-stay even if somebody talks to you. It's a way to get the question to come up so you can answer it.

The end goal for any evasion plan should be to get to a location where you can get easier escape with a bike, motorcycle or car.
So do you have escaped convicts around that are being chased by dogs? Is Zeus on loan to the marshals?

It often isn't one's pleasure, and the other is not always welcome. But perhaps it wasn't a problem. So, "no problem."
"Do you mind if we check your carry-on bag?"
"Yes, I do. But you don't have any more space, so I don't see how I have any choice."
The expected answer was probably, "No problem."
I like, "No problem." It means, "I wasn't put out by it." That's a valid sentiment.
I generally question the sincerity of, "My pleasure." Was it really?
"Can you throw this away for me?"
"My pleasure. "

Only Americans say "you're welcome". People think they should curtsy now that you've shown your superiority to them.
"No problem" or "It's nothing" means the person being thanked defers to the customer or guest.
Why you shouldn't say You're Welcome

For the nominative case, ".e" to replace "he", "she". (Capitalization of ".e" is, of course, ":e".

In Mexico, for "you're welcome", people say "de nada" (literally, "of a tennis player"). That seems like a stretch.
In Germany, they say "bitte" (literally, "your thanks are insincere").
My habit comes from my father: for "goodbye", we say "So long!" (literally, "it will be a long time before I will want to see you again"). Harsh.
