Hillary's Everyday People theme continues: Her van is named "Scooby."

The Guardian offers a tidbit about the road trip (which we are already discussing in the previous post):
The campaign also leaked other snippets intended to humanise the trip, including that the former first lady had nicknamed the van “Scooby” because it resembles the vehicle from the cartoon.

It is unclear whether the folksy narrative will immediately alter perceptions of Clinton, who has been at the top of the political elite, as first lady, senator and secretary of state, for more than two decades....

Clinton’s current location and planned itinerary is unknown. However, she is scheduled to arrive at a community college in Monticello shortly after 1pm on Tuesday, for what the first in what her campaign is billing as a series of “conversations with everyday Iowans.”
See? There's that word again — "everyday" (the adjective).

I pulled out the "Everyday People" theme, I said in the previous post, not only because Hillary is striving to seem like one of the common people, but also because "When I hear 'everyday' used as an adjective, I think of the song 'Everyday People' by Sly and the Family Stone." Well! I nearly fell off my chair when I saw that the van was named "Scooby." You may think only about the cartoon "Scooby-Doo," but the name "Scooby-Doo" comes from the song "Everyday People." The song has a line — repeated 3 times — "And different strokes for different folks/And so on and so on and scooby dooby doo." "Scooby-Doo," the cartoon, began in 1969. "Everyday People," the song, was a big hit in 1968, when Hillary Clinton was 21....

Now, get in the van. Oh sha sha, we got to live together....

I get that all political decisions are calculated and poll driven, but the Clintons always seemed so blatant and obvious about their poll driven calculations. Is there any core underneath all that ambition and calculation? I'd sort of respect and admire it if there was some greater good that it was all serving.

All I want to know is how she is planning to attack the $96 Trillion in unfunded liabilities. What kind of leadership can she bring to Congress and the Public, in turning this around.

She needs to advise everyone at these stops, that the country is completely bankrupt, and she has a plan to pull us out of the Pelosi/Reid sewer.

Here is the difference between Hillary and the rest of them. Start with 2000 presidential elections -- things didn't go well. Al Gore got short changed, out of his own missteps (or not). But what did it do to him? He was irreparably damaged (may be inevitable).

Then in 2008, the Democrats ate part of their own to put Obama in the WH by hook or crook and by crook they did. Hillary got shortchanged, enough to irreparably damage her psyche (can you imagine the disappointment?). But no, she sucked it up, was a team player and offered this nincompoop her support and waited for the next opportunity. I think for what she was put through in 2008 by her own party, the Democrats should suck it up and prop her up and let her do her thing. We will see what the voters want to do.

Iwao Takamoto, the creator and animator of Scooby Doo, says Sinatra's "Dooby dooby doo" in his 1966 hit "Strangers in the Night" inspired Scooby Doo's name.

But even before that, in 1963, there were Randy & The Rainbows singing "Oh Denise, I'm in love with you/Scooby Doo."

So, not clear where Sly picked it up from.

I think we just need a few billboards featuring Hillary's unretouched facial image and the message: New ideas matter.

The van on SCOOBY-DOO was called the Mystery Machine, so this is a pop-culture reference FAIL.
On second thought, Mystery Machine might have been too close to the truth.

It's a Mystery why people will vote for her

Nope. The lyrics were "Oh Denise Doobie doo."

If you like the strokes you have now you can keep them.

@tim maguire Dig the pants!

She was always wearing unisex clothes back then.

Women also had a frightening amount of pubic hair in the 70's, and wearing pants kept them from scaring little girls whenever they bent over in a mini-skirt.

Yeah, well, we already elected Shaggy and look where that's got us.....

I think the proper response to the brand new totally positive Coca-Cola Clinton is to let her run her campaign, disagree politely where you honestly disagree, and decide not to vote for her if you prefer someone else who, in your estimation, is more awesome, has a better vision for the country, has a more positive message, or has policy proposals or values to which you better relate. Kill them with kindness, people!

They had to leak the nickname for the van? Seriously? Here's the most visible woman in the world launching a campaign for President, and her staff can't figure out a way to get their cute nickname out into public except by leaking it?

If Hilary was real people like real people on television (if television is still around, but anyway...) if Hilary was "real people" then she would be having a contest to name her van and maybe even her campaign.

I like "Real People and the Mystery Machine" as the name for the van - and the whole campaign.

The Mystery Machine name was already taken by her email server

Yo, gorillas! Report to the mist!

A mini-van surronded by 20 armored SUVs and followed 25 panel vans full of aids, flacks and other hanger-oners. This is going to look totes genuine!

I have to believe that there are tons of Dems - real Progressives and good-government types - who would really rather vote for Fuaxahantas or someone else, but of course they all really hate Republicans so once she steamrolls the Primary they will fall into line in November 2016.

Nope. The lyrics were "Oh Denise Doobie doo."

Some say that. But others say that it was "scooby doo." And still others say it was "shooby doo." All three are reported on the Web. In any event, it's not the "official" lyrics that count, so much as what people think they hear. And we have no way of knowing what Sly thought he heard, let alone what earlier songs may have influenced his lyrics.

In any event, I'm now going with Roy Orbison's 1956 song "Ooby Dooby."

A van has an advantage over a bus in that there's no room for the press to ride along.

Velma is secretly sexy who can also be a turn-on intellectually, whereas Daphne is an 'empty skirt' so to speak.

Hillary is neither.

Along with the 6 foot 2 inch, sexually addicted, first, first gentleman.

Would Bill be called the First Gentleman?

Huh. That pic got me googling "Young Hillary Clinton." She has just the slightest resemblance to a younger, chubbier Angelina there. No seriously. Just a bit. Obviously, she didn't turn out to be a sex goddess, but check this younger pic out: Young Hillary. She is so often derided for her looks, that it took me by surprise. Her uber-geek nature dominates.

I detest everything about the current Hillary, but I have to admit she had a certain sex appeal when younger. Great eyes and a very nice figure in a reubenesque sort of way.

I also think Chelsea is quite attractive ... Until she talks.
