Drudge pushes Walker.

The link under the picture goes to WKOW's "Walker gets standing ovation in NH, but most in attendance still undecided."

Other links at the top of Drudge:

1. "THRONGS OF SUPPORTERS GREET GOV..." goes to the Weekly Standard: "Throngs of Supporters, Media Greet Walker in New Hampshire/Presidential candidate talks of riding his Harley in N.H.." That comes with a 6-minute video:

2. "TESTS MESSAGE IN $1 SWEATER..." goes to The Hill's "Walker tests his message in New Hampshire":
In his first trip to the second-in-the-nation presidential nominating state since 2012, Walker donned a sweater he said he bought for a buck from Kohl's, a big retailer founded in his home state, and cast himself as an executive willing to roll up his sleeves to streamline government and protect the homeland.
3. "JEB JABS 'FRONTRUNNER'..." goes to The Boston Herald's "Jeb Bush takes jab at Scott Walker as both continue N.H. tour""
“I’m not a candidate. I don’t think — maybe he is — I don’t know. You can’t be a front-runner until you start running,” Bush said after touring Integra Biosciences here yesterday.

Bush’s remarks were in response to Walker’s comments earlier this week to Breitbart News. He said President Obama’s recent criticism of Wisconsin’s so-called “right to work” law “suggests maybe we’re the front-runner if somebody is taking an active interest in what a state governor is doing, particularly in light of the fact that we’re not the only one.”
4. "Early Intensity In Race..." goes to the NYT's "New Hampshire, Shaping Up as Free-for-All, Gets Early G.O.P. Attention": At the link, a photo of Jeb, grim-faced and surrounded by grim-faced media types poking microphones at him, and a photo of Walker, smiling in a baseball cap and listening to one person at the  New Hampshire Republicans' 2016 Kickoff Grassroots Training at Concord High School. Key sentence: "Talking to a motorcycle aficionado afterward, he even mused about coming back to campaign here on his Harley-Davidson."

5. "Does road to White House start in Wisconsin?" goes to the Weekly Standard's John MacCormack's "See Scott Run/Does the road to the White House start in Wisconsin?"
Do you know who isn’t an ordinary person? Hillary Clinton. “Saying you’re broke when you’ve got two homes, or you’re making a quarter of a million dollars a speech, or you haven’t driven a car in 18 years, those are all things that I think further embolden that theory that someone like Hillary Clinton who is of Washington—who lives in Washington, who worked for the last term for President Obama in Washington, who served in the Senate in Washington, who lived in the White House in Washington, who spent the early days of her career in Washington—this is someone who embodies Washington,” Walker told me during our March 8 interview. (Like an ordinary guy, Walker sometimes says a word like “embolden” when he means “emphasize.”)

Maybe Drudge is trying to counter the media-driven narrative which says:
1. Walker had his bump in popularity and made some "gaffes."
2. The Donor Classes' Bush is disliked by the conservatives and is gaining no traction.
3. We are going to resuscitate Rubio who is another Donor Class candidate because this is a Foreign Policy Election and we have anointed him as the Foreign Policy Expert. Rubio all but mortally wounded himself by wanting to give citizenship to illegals. Bush too, and throw in Common Core to his greivious wounds.

I also thought the use of embolden was strange but not in the wrong way

I see the word embolden being OK in that sentence. Sure, it would've (don't you hate people that write would of?) been better to write that people were emboldened to support the theory... but the passive-voice works well enough.
Taking odds with Gov. Walker's grammar and usage...all to present him as ignorant and uneducated?

Haven't seen him in a ball cap before. Is that a new thing?

Bad news for Democrats: garage mahal hired to lead the anti-Walker effort for Democratic Party.

I've yet to actually meet, or correspond with, anyone who actively supports Jeb Bush's candidacy.

It's not that I'm already sold on Walker or anyone else in lieu of Jeb Bush. But he's not in the list of my top 20, or even top 30, favorites for the GOP nomination.

Is he really anyone's number one pick, other than (due to loyalty) his immediate family's?

Richard Dolan said...

The reporters are desperate for a circular firing squad on the Rep side, hence the effort to make the mildest comment a sharp "jab." But it's good to see Walker and Jeb making their pitch and showing that they intend to prove they're the One.

Likewise. I am deluged with polls if I look at a conservative site.

I want to hear much more about amnesty.

So if Jeb isn't running, what's he doing giving speeches and pushing amnesty and slamming republicans and republican candidates? Democrat party public service announcer? Fucking guy can't even be straightforward about his intentions. Flush, please!

This is not a game. Elections have consequences and with the world heading into the toilet after six years of a vanity Presidency, we cannot afford to have the White House passed back and forth again between two factions of the DC mandarinate.

Jeb Bush has only one source of support: the beltway political class. Nobody outside of DC or state capitols wants either Hillary or Jeb. Both are merely interested in taking away your guns, economic freedom, and replacing the electorate with a more pliant hispanic population.

They both want serfs, not citizens. Hillary is just more blunt about it and her supporters are dumber. Jeb at least lies a little but anyone outside DC who supports him is just as stupid as the people that support Hillary.

Those voters are firmly on Planet Hillary anyways, so it doesn't really matter.

I think it's odd that NEB's handlers don't seem to care to even mildly excite Tea Partiers. It's like they've already written them off.

Unknown said...

Like Beldar, I've don't know a single person who is a Bush supporter. Most people I know would break out the marshmallows if Hillary was burned at the stake but half of them would stay home rather than choose between her and Bush. This seems to be the mood everywhere outside the commie coasts. I allow as how it's possible my personal crowd is skewed and enough people might hold their noses and vote for another Bush, but I just don't see it. If I'm reading the tea leaves even mostly correctly how can the Republican establishment be dumb enough to push Jeb Bush forward? I suppose it must be that they have as much (more?) at stake in the contest for the Republican party than in the general election. We're probably screwed.

Michael K said...

"Most people I know would break out the marshmallows if Hillary was burned at the stake "

Reminds me of the old Clinton joke. A traffic jam going into DC and a highway trooper comes by the car to tell the driver that there is an accident ahead and it is the president's car on fire.

The driver asks of there is anything he can do and the cop says, "Well, another can of gasoline would be helpful."

The cops didn't like Bill either.

Prof. You are only fooling yourself if you think Walker will win the POTUS stakes.

No one can win.

The 2016 belongs to one and only one person: HRC.

This is HRC's race to victory.

You have no idea - no idea - at the thunderbolt that is going to come towards GOP.

It is like a tornado in OK or a snow blitz in MN.

You will not escape. You will not live to tell a tale.

HRC's campaign apparatus, which I know about, as I am in the polling community, is getting so awesome that you can combine all GOP staff and that would still be a miniscule.

HRC will be over the country. Every house. Every street. Every neighborhood.

It is over. There was no race to 2016.

It was a mirage.

Save yourself. Save your money. Save your time.

Just send in absentee for HRC already.

Enh. I can truthfully say that I haven't driven a car in 18 years. But that's because I didn't have a driver's license. I think that Hillary!'s case is a little different.

Maybe that's the big plan: Both parties alienate the older mostly white voters (who belong to the past in their eyes) and focus on the future which belongs to immigrants now. We've crossed a rubicon and there's no going back.

Achilles said...

"If I'm reading the tea leaves even mostly correctly how can the Republican establishment be dumb enough to push Jeb Bush forward?"

Because their goal is not what you think it is. The "Republican establishment" is really just the donor class. They are not ideological. They are rich people who want to hold their place. They give money to both sides and don't care who wins.

They don't care about Republicans or Democrats. They want gun control, less economic freedom, and open borders/amnesty. They have resegregated schools so their precious children don't have to go to school with poor kids. They got obmacare passed because a lot of them are insurance company owners that make money off of it and it keeps the riff raff out of their hospitals. Many of them own companies like GE that not only pay no corporate income taxes, but actually get money in subsidies. They want higher taxes because those always fall on smaller businesses that are less politically connected.

If all of this sounds like progressive 101 that is because it is. Progressive policies have always been about creating a permanent class structure. Big government just crushes economic mobility and keeps the wealthy safely ensconced.

Walker is a walking miracle. One writer said Walker has always been fortunate in his enemies. And it is more than that. He has a path wide open in front of him and the leadership skills to go down it. That is rare.

His eyes, smile and voice convey 100% Christian confidence. He doesn't need to say anything religious to get Christian votes. He radiates that without words.

All the marketing and GOTV the dems can buy won't drag a bad candidate across the finish line. And BECAUSE WOMEN isn't a good enough reason to be president. Neither is a "back to the future" pitch.

"Legacy voters" -- that's a name for the sort of voters Walker gets but which the Next Eligible Bush (NEB) lacks.

I think American Politico is tongue in cheek. But there are actually people who think like that. I will say it again: Hillary will not even run. They will look at the numbers and she will bail for health and family reasons.

She is already tanking in the polls just like she always does when she is campaigning because she is "turrible." Her reaction to the email scandal is classic Hillary. She sucks as a politician. And she has much more to answer for. 8 years ago she was younger and inevitable too. She blew it. She drinks way more now. I hope she wins the nomination so she can lose badly, but the dems wont let it happen.

More importantly Bill wont let her run because he will have to answer questions about the pedophile plane and orgy island. They wouldn't have enough cash to buy all of those women off.

New Hampshire is not a reliable bellwether for the GOP when it comes to primaries. In the GOP primaries They went for Pat Buchanan in '96 (Bob Dole was the eventual nominee), and John McCain in 2000 (W. Bush).

I think Walker will play well there; much better than Bush. NH still has an independent streak that hasn't quite been snuffed out by waves of Massholes moving across the border.

About the $1 sweater (and ham sandwich, etc):

This has a contrived feel to it but it might resonate with voters fed up with elite politicians. At least he has a modest background to pull it off without automatically being inauthentic -GWB was often criticized, for instance, of adopting a faux Texas persona since he was an East coast blue blood.

So I don't know how this will play out for Walker. What I do know is that he will be raked over the coals if it can be established that he is faking it. If it turns out that the sweater actually cost $1.99, the left will go ballistic. Someone is undoubtedly searching his trash cans as we speak.

add to that list:

* lying about his endorsements
* lying about the Reagan Bible
* lying about his wife and kids being attacked by protesters.
* lying about the "teacher of the year" getting fired
* lying about the "drafting error"
* lying about the Soviet documents
* lying about a bow and arrow killing someone in Neenah
* lying about "the typical Wisconsin homeowner will save approximately $680 over four years."
* lying about protesters attacking and rocking his car in La Crosse.

And it's not just the Dems who will go after Walker on these and more. His fellow Republicans are also starting to call him out on his flip-flops and falsehoods.

Alex said...

The point is that it's one thing to win a statewide race, another thing to have the entire national media against you. Ronald Reagan had core principles and that's why the lamestream media couldn't do anything to him.

Brown Hornet said...

"Ronald Reagan had core principles and that's why the lamestream media couldn't do anything to him."

I wouldn't say the media couldn't do anything to Reagan (see Iran-Contra). The media hated Reagan's core principles and never stopped trying to snare him. Reagan's success via-a-vis an unfriendly press corps had more to do with his savvy than with core principles. Reagan had a good instinct for what registered with the public, which questions the public wanted answered, and how to engage the press on his terms. Walker seems to have similar instincts. A lot of Democrats are under-estimating Walker's national appeal and his ability to deal with the press.

Alex said...

Did Reagan ever have so many flip-flops by the age of 47?

Walker will be torn to shreds by the media.

Brown Hornet said...

"Did Reagan ever have so many flip-flops by the age of 47?"

Reagan signed abortion rights into law as CA governor (before Roe v Wade) and ran for President as a pro-life candidate 12 years later. That's a pretty significant policy reversal.

Deranged lunacy.

I’ve heard more sense coming from a homeless lunatic.

politifact backed up Walker’s tax cut claims of Three hundred twenty two in tax relief

http://www.politifact.com/wisconsin/statements/2014/sep/26/scott-walker/scott-walker-says-tax-cuts-amount-322-average-fami/

The 'drafting error' is about as big a nothing burger as the delusion left’s ’16 words'. Just once I’d like one of you wordsmiths to illustrate the exact phrasing that was so nefarious.

Yes, Politifact did say that Scott Walker was "mostly true" when he said $322 for the average savings, but they also say he was "pants of fire" lying when he repeatedly used the $680 figure instead.

The record clearly shows that Scott Walker has a history of lying and being deceitful.
