Now that his wife's Goldman benefits are lapsing, Ted Cruz is signing up to get health insurance on an exchange. CNN thinks this proves he's a hypocrite or something.
In Northern New Jersey, there is a loose group of a few hundred or so men and women who attend the same gay-identified Alcoholics Anonymous meetings during the week. We all know, or know of, each other.
On Sunday, the 5:30 pm gay meeting I go to regularly was filled to capacity with people who had just come from the funeral of a member who had been very active in AA. He had hung himself the previous Monday.
After the meeting, a few friends and I went to dinner. We talked about the fact that Mike was the third person from our groups who had killed themselves. One friend observed that such a statistic would tend to suggest that something is dysfunctional with our little community. I'm not sure if it relates to AA, or if just being gay makes it more likely that you will kill yourself. I've been thinking about this for days and it's upsetting.
Thanks for sharing that, Scott. I'm sorry to hear about the suicide.
You can accomplish the equivalent of editing by copying your comment, fixing it, posting it, then deleting the original. It does clutter things, so it's not ideal, but it's better than having to write a second comment that calls attention to the need for an edit.
I am still grinding about yesterday's headlines about "Israel spied on United States' secrets and leaked them to the United States Congress."
Come again?
1. This information would, of course, also come from Israel spying on Iran, and in its present situation, it would be an impeachable offense for the Israeli government not to do so. (Also from the French, since the French are not much happier than the Israelis about these "talks.")
2. But "leaking US secrets to the US Congress"??? Are these MSM people just completely nuts? Stark raving bonkers?
The Obama administration seems bent on making allies of our present enemies and enemies of our allies.
I think I could actually make some reasonably cogent arguments for this in the present situation as an intellectual exercise - not with my heart in it, since I do not think it will work; the people involved do not appear to be much interested in intellectual exercises; they want war, and war I think there will be - but even if I believed in it, I think it lunacy and highly improper for the Executive to embark on such a course without first securing general agreement from the Legislative branch. Not to mention the American people. I do not think there is going to be any jubilation and acclaim of the President's genius when they wake up some morning and find that we have switched sides in the night without their even being warned that something like that might be coming.

Good, but not as cute as the last video.

I thought of something that would be perfect for a cafe type post this afternoon. Now that the opportunity presents itself, no memory.
Oh man, snow on the ground and it's going to hit 90 here in L.A. tomorrow (an unhappy reminder of the heat to come).

What I meant to write was: Mike was the third person in the past five years...
It sucks that this comment system won't let you go back and edit a comment after publication.

I do it myself, but I have the ability also to delete the trace of the deleted post. I usually delete those traces left by others when I see them.
Scott, I'm sorry for your and your friends' loss.
I comment with a Google account and do not see any way to delete a faulty post.
Thank you.

And snowpack in the Sierras is <10% of normal. It's going to be a long summer.
@Hagar, so you don't see the little TrashCan icon next to all your posts, to the right of the timestamp? I click on that and my posts are gone.
Scott, I'll echo the others: what a thing to live through, three times!! I'm sorry.
Thanks, MM!
Mesmerizing
Seriously, I could look at this for an hour.

It's warmer outside than inside, suddenly in Central Ohio.
It has to be a quick rise or the inside would stay ahead of the outside.
