It ended with one person's comment that, " I did not think it was a wise joke to make, but I don't think he meant it to be racist."

All right you language police out there. Are accidental racist words forgivable but not the intentional ones. That is a big loophole. That alone will empty the racist jails for old vulgar southerners.

Fried chicken, pork chops and watermelon ought to become completely rehabilitated words.

Duct tape isn't actual duct tape.

Actual duct tape is approved for emergency skin repairs on airplanes.

This is a very complex question.
No simple answer will do.
Mostly it depends on relationships.
Clearly someone must needs have been offended.
There are many factors.
What is the gaffers appearant sex, what is the gaffers self selected sex, what is the gaffers sexual orientation, what is the gaffers political affiliation, is the gaffer physically attractive, or ugly. What is the gaffers nationality?, Race?
Is the gaffer considered to be extra intelligent? Is the gaffer exceptionally wealthy?
Next we must apply the same set of criteria to the offended party (gaffee). It is only through a careful analysis of relationships between the two that we can establish the stick ability of the gaffe.
Il give you an example to make it easy.
Todd Akin "legitimate rape"
Whopie Goldberg "not rape-rape"
Now that one was easy, but you can see the template.

Well, the page I looked at used pvc pipe, glue gun, an a plastic sprinkler spike among other items.

I would imagine a celebrity version would be made of higher quality materials like the originals, such as a Fijian war club core.

Daniel Handler is a celebrity?

As Earl Butz said, "He no playa the game, he no maka the rules." So if he has to play a role in Famous Author Kabuki, he has to obay the rules.

Gaffer's tape is the best kept secret in show business...much more useful than duct tape...much more expensive too.

Duct tape - also know as hundred mile an hour tape - is used to seal joints in HVAC ducting.

Here's what Wikipedia says about a gaffer: " The term gaffer originally related to the moving of overhead equipment to control lighting levels using a gaff" I was actually just wondering last night what ever happened to the old focus stick that we used to have in the theater to focus the box booms. Yes, it's all about trying to control the environment.

Gaffer tape. Also known as 100 mile an hour tape. The tape used on jets is referred to as 500 mile an hour tape and has a metal backing.
