I see in the article they have the right to appeal; not sure if that happens before or after the sentence is carried out.

bleh said...: I can understand a pass play, but not THAT pass play. Like everyone else, I would have just handed the ball to Marshawn.

But if I were to call a pass play on second and goal from the one, it would have been a fade to the outside to one of the tall receivers, i.e., low chance of an INT. If that didn't work I would hand it to Marshawn on third down. If that didn't work, I would call timeout and hand it to Marshawn again on fourth down.

If he were to get the death penalty it would take decades to go through the courts; he will outlive many of the family members of the victims.

Elsewhere, he'd already be in an unmarked grave.

I say split the difference and no more than 91.5 people can be sentenced to death at once.

ISIS pales in comparison to some of the shit we did. I know. This is how nations have always been built. Show me a nation anywhere on this planet that is larger than the growth of a single tribe or group of related tribes could have made it, and where those tribes are on their original land. I bet outside of the Pacific Islands, on cannot be found.

Not that I don't think we should fight ISIS, I do, we should fight them like we mean to win. Just let's no pretend that they are some kind of historical anomaly.; 2/2/15, 8:00 AM

Quaestor said...: Tagging this thread with "unfair sentence" is questionable, since the article does not enumerate or explain the options of the court. We Americans tend to interpret the world through the lens of our own culture, consequently CNN's web editors see no need to discuss Egypt's legal system or judicial traditions. We expect judges to have at least some latitude in sentencing the convicted, but that may not be the expectation, or even the law in Egypt; 2/2/15, 8:58 AM

I haven't heard of a mass execution in Egypt lately. (There were several drumhead trails and mass executions in the wake of Nasser's 1952 coup, but that's history.) It would be instructive to know the status of those cases.; 2/2/15, 9:20 AM
