At the Big Colors Café...
... we need more color on January 17th!
That's an old picture, from August 2009, but it cheered me up just now, as I was doing some unnecessarily somber searching through the blog archive (for the phrase "he died doing what he loved," a topic in the comments thread on the first post this morning).
Anyway, in the winter, it's hard to keep up a stream of new photographs. Even when it's a bit warmer — as it has been these last few days — it's still awfully dim and gray most of the time. Meade found a few rays of light over at the dog park last Thursday. I thought Lucy looked pretty grand, seeking out the sunshine:
Anyway, this is a "café" post, so talk about whatever you want.

Is that a whippet?
If I had a whippet, I'd name it Good.
If it's colour you want, allow me to introduce you to a beloved Canadian artist who died yesterday morning at age 88.
Ted Harrison was a neighbour of mine some forty years ago when I lived in the small Yukon settlement of Carcross, and I suspect you'll agree his work is instantly recognizable. He'll be missed.
Super stars are not what they used to be over in the NBA land. The usual super stars still get the PR narrative as heroic men you can see outplay everyone, but their teams are all losers. LeBron's Cleveland, Kobe's Lakers, Kevin Durant's Thunder etc.
A Super Star less unselfish style of team basketball that Atlanta's team has stumbled upon is almost like cheating. They are beating everbody now by 20 points, while the NBA publicists try to pretend they don't exist.

Neighbors have whippet named Devo.
I am waiting for this color
The House of Saud has decided Rick Perry will never be POTUS, hence the rise in output.
Texas' economy will start taking a hit as the natural up/down motions materialize.
Why fear Perry?
I believe it has to do with the elderly in The House not knowing the difference between Rick and Katy. Of course everyone fears Katy after her $17.5M gift to the United States Marine Corps via her "Part of Me" vid.
Plus, she kissed a damned girl and by God liked it.
In Hollywood, the more you blow the more you go.
Waiting for our Sunrise Tuesday Jan. 20 CNN late-night (GMT+1) State of the Union Address. ***** Started my diet and exercise program. Have lost 5 pounds since Jan. 1. Totally psyched !! Miss the 'ole NBA.

How Vox. Voxxy? Voxxy Lady?
I am Laslo.
Some Pepco contractor rang the doorbell and offered me a free quick home energy check-up and they will install all kinds of free things inside the house, if I sign up for it. Free, free, free. And then he spilled the beans inadvertently when I took out my Pepco bill and started asking him how they got the funds to do it and that the govermint must have given them something. Silly me, govermint does not make money (yes it does) but not to give out free things -- for that they take money first from those us who could. Then lo and behold, he shows me the line item on my bill that funds this free 'program' and I am paying close to $6 every month. It is not free, I am paying for it, dumbbell.
I drew the line when he offered me this other program where they install a digital device connected to my AC that would play with my house temps in the summer during peak load. Great idea but I was hesitant to give them control of something in my house to that extent that I didn't go for it. But of course, I am paying a penalty for it. I don't like this at all.
Related to my previous example, the whole Government should be run by contractors, private enterprise capitalists who make money by delivering quality products or die, (warning: whole lot of exaggeration!).
Case in point, a flippant one if there is one but that makes my husband and me say everytime we are there that contractors should run everything. We park our car at a Montgomery county parking lot during night outs. The parking attendants are so courteous, they are oozing it out of their little windows and to top it, most of them are of foreign extraction or minorities. If it was a county employee with job security, I don't think it will work that way at all. I know I am showing my bias on various fronts but there is something to be said about capitalist frame of mind.
Agree with traditionalguy on NBA Divas! Kobe and LeBron (especially LeBron) are ruining their brand with the Don't Give a Shit attitude.
Wonder what Drudge was trying to say with the Bull Dyke front and center? I was expecting a Drudgetapostion post.
Just read this article, via drudge, about Obama lecturing Europeans on assimilation and immigration.

Is it weird that, in response to questions from reporters, Obama refers to Cameron as "David"? For some reason, I can't imagine other world leaders casually referring to Obama as "Barack." Is Obama exercising his POTUS privilege and micro-aggressing Cameron?
What if the well-off blind lead the best existence?
Blind through no fault of their own, and wealthy due to their own efforts hence self-funding care, image all the shit you wouldn't see.
Now, think, THINK damnit, of why Dubai is Dubai. How United are the Arab Emerites with oil at $50 US per barrel?
Russia. China. Attica, *^^+*^% ATTICA!
Well, Cameron deserves every bit of it. Why did he have to come running here to Barack like a good old lapdog?
I am sure Bush and Clinton did the same. Still, I think it's an interesting dynamic to take note of. Familiarity is good and all, but in certain contexts it suggests a power disparity. Servants know this well.
When Obama talks about what "David" has been doing to help fight terrorism, I can't help but feel Obama is establishing himself as the boss in this regard, in a slightly insulting way. Maybe it's just bad manners, with no offense intended.
In any event, I would welcome a bit more formality and respect among world leaders. These little things matter.
2014 warmest year on record. Now if it was the coldest the anti-global warming crowd couldn't shut up.
I can't help but feel Obama is establishing himself as the boss in this regard, in a slightly insulting way. Maybe it's just bad manners, with no offense intended.
Oh, all of it is in there and even the offense being intentional. What I don't get is why everybody puts up with it.
A Super Star less unselfish style of team basketball that Atlanta's team has stumbled upon is almost like cheating.
Actually, Mike Budenholzer, the Hawks' coach, imported the system from San Antonio. It's a "team power" concept instead of the usually aspired to "star power."
Teams win championships, not stars, IF there are unselfish teams like Atlanta and San Antonio in the playoffs. King James is learning that again in Cleveland just as he learned last year in Miami. If you spend all your salary money on stars you have nothing left for the bench. As a consequence stars have to play more minutes and get a bit tired in the 4th quarter.
Also, the long NBA season(82 games not counting the playoffs) tends to wear down the superstar teams near the end of the season because of all those minutes played.
I notice Lebron is nursing a back injury. It is my opinion that back problems in basketball are usually caused by muscle fatigue due to too much time on the court, especially as a player gets older. Back problems usually precede knee and ankle injuries. A hurt back changes the way a player runs and plays. This in turn creates excessive and unnatural stress on the leg joints.
They are beating everybody now by 20 points, while the NBA publicists try to pretend they don't exist.
The time allotted on the sports shows is directly related to TV-market size. Which is why losers like the Lakers and the Knicks get a lot of time on the sports shows.
I'd like to see Meade weigh in on Pets in Paradise:

My rare to America English Seahawk sailboat has been painted in a wonderful set of reds and beiges and is getting ready for her name and logo to be painted on and then it's off to sail the bays, lakes, and rivers of America - Charleston, the upper Chesapeake, New York, Narragansett, Halifax, Lake Champlain, The Apostle islands, Puget Sound, San Francisco, and back around to Florida. Add in a possible traverse of the Hudson River, the Upper Mississippi River and the St John's river. Expect an unwieldy and oversized coffee table book in 2020. And accompanying calendar. Lotsa' color across America... April - October anyways.
Clinton's friend, Epstein, is in the news again. His ex Girl Scout cookie claims that he never recruited black underaged sex slaves and that this shows he was racist. How quick people are to think the worst of pedophiles. Epstein was a good liberal and, perhaps, like most good liberals, he did not want to participate in the exploitation of black people, especially by employing them as slaves. With the right pr spin, this could serve to refurbish his reputation,
The VOlokh Conspiracy is now behind the WaPo paywall? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot! Can't something be done about this?
Also, @ rehajm should name the second Whippet "Nitrous".
The House of Saud has decided Rick Perry will never be POTUS, hence the rise in output.
Those guys in the House of Saud are virtuoso evil geniuses. They are after everybody from Putin to Venezuela to Perry, now, to the Canadian producers.
Nobody can believe that North American oil production has broken OPEC.
OPEC overplayed their hand.
Records, on or off, are shit. You base your ideas and passion on records, you die impotent alone spawning naught.
I thought my Kochs were for Perry, the Texas oil enabler.
But since Saud House is trying to hurt Perry, and the Kochs own the Sauds six ways from Friday, my head hurts.
Lucy is not a whippet. She's a greyhound. (Retired from racing.)
Andy Clay had to tell his buddy Steve, for sixty minutes, "cool it."
Steve would refer to any unit of volume in "pussy units."
"Hey Steve you wanna coffee?"
"Sure, half a puss full."
"A puss full?"
"No, HALF a puss full."
"What?"
"Huh?"
Steve Kroft allegedly got kicked out of a 2 Live Crew show in Barbados circa 1991 for obscene crimes against nature.
WOW!! I'm in shock!!!
Terms limits proposal?
As the new congressional session gets underway, government reform proposals are getting early interest from Pennsylvania legislators.
Republican Sen. Pat Toomey said Wednesday that he’s co-sponsoring a constitutional amendment from Louisiana Sen. David Vitter to establish term limits for Congress. Under the proposal, those in the U.S. House could serve three terms and senators would be limited to two terms.
Constitutional Amendment. What is the chance it will pass.
Have there been past attempts?
I dislike limiting the publics choice, on the other hand, I can't abide career politicians.
Is Lucy an NGA rescue?
The VOlokh Conspiracy is now behind the WaPo paywall? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot! Can't something be done about this?
Use the "private" or "incognito" option in your browser.
Oops, question already answered. Thanks.
More people should look into retired racers. GHs are wonderful dogs -- sweet natured, clean, and quiet.
Stop trying to make fetch happen.
Dowd on Selma, the movie:
"Many of the teenagers by me bristled at the power dynamic between the men. It was clear that a generation of young moviegoers would now see L.B.J.’s role in civil rights through DuVernay’s lens."
A generation of young black people are paid protesters for Soros. Al Sharpton is blackmailing everyone to part with their moneys or he will cry racist. And on and on. All in the age of Golden child Obama. I think the black leaders/celebrities are behaving irresponsibly.
Hm. It appears the "world leaders" shown in front of the "solidarity march" were photo'd elsewhere and photoshop-inserted into the rally.
But at least James Taylor wasn't lip-synching. Right? RIGHT?

What a beautiful, beautiful lady! My neighbor around the corner has two former racing greyhounds, and I love both of them. One decided on a career change, and is now a pretty fierce guard dog. The other is gentle as anything, always campaigning for a caress.
I've heard that these rescue dogs are very good around children, but that one does have to be careful not to back into them and possibly break the forelegs.
Can't quite manage a dog right now because we're sort of full up here with the three cats - all rescues - and a minnow. I like to call the minnow a rescue, too, as it came from the tank of fish sold to feed other fish.
Some day I'd like a dog again. Would either like a rehabilitated greyhound or (gulp!) a pit bull. Perhaps in the next life, when I have a less erratic schedule and my own property with a fenced in yard.
hey, look at this zipper truck on Golden Gate Bridge! Pretty cool.
Greyhounds are very good for killing coyotes.
That dog's profile looks the the supersonic Concorde coming in to land.
We took two grandchildren to see Selma tonight. It was a pleasant surprise.
Other than a closing credits rap music propaganda rap about today's politics the film was well done and closer to accurate than I expected to see.
The Actor who played Martin deserves an Oscar nomination. Why Hollywood left him out must be a jealous reaction that he got that historical role.
Winner: The City of Atlanta for five strong roles of Atlanta men who brought back good memories. They were Ralph Abernathy, Hosea Williams, John Lewis, Andy Young and Martin himself.
Loser: The entire State of Alabama.
Indubitably the liberals will regard this as merely a case of post-partum abortion.
