"President Obama tries to use scientific jargon with little success."

WaPo headline for a video of Obama talking about something called the BRAIN Initiative... which had me a little worried.

I've worked on expert testimony (economics) for trial. Lawyers always think they can easily pick up scientific jargon and concepts. Their overconfidence is staggering. Obama is not unique in that regard.

He's trying to be funny....with little success.

I guess that better than most things...no success.

What a douche...everything must be about him.

Here's a guy, while praising people who have done remarkable things, has to make a joke that he understands it too.

What? Community organizer and intellectually incurious man doesn't know science well?

I'm stunned. I bet Neil DeGrasse Tyson will make up stories about Obama's scientific illiteracy soon enough.

No surprise with this guy.

That is why they call him Swaggy!

Personally, I'm more curious about the 2500 requests he made for tax returns!

I predicted that this guy would make Tricky Dick look like a choir boy! I think he and Louie Head are on the same mission! "Burn this Bitch Down!"

I didn't watch the video -- there was an ad beforehand that played, but then the whole thing froze. Not gonna watch an ad twice.

No one is ever as smart as they think they are when it comes to pronouncing things outside their field of expertise -- or even within it (Judging this by how sports/newscasters pronounce Ikegwuonu, for example).

There's bound to be a Wizard of Oz analogy in there somewhere. Probably Michelle in greenface saying "Have a little fire, Scarecrow!" if she catches him smoking.

Sadly, he is always trying to prove something rather than recognizing he's not really omnipotent - even with a pen and a phone.

We suffer the fool.

You wonder if the audience is amused with his comments or the ping-pong style of delivery from the teleprompters

WaPo is biased, of course, but why the change from biased-based "He is the greatest lightbringer to have ever broughten light" to this crap today?

Events, my dear self I say silently, are the cause. Events showing rape increasing faster than income inequality.

How could a man send his daughter to University knowing she very well might be gang-raped? What would dear Siggy Freud say?

Teleprompter alert! Teleprompter alert!

Get that man a Teleprompter!! Quick!

The joking aside, isn't he chewing gum at the podium?

It's a joke.

I don't like him, but I find this charming, actually.

I've see people use the royal we before, but I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've seen someone use a royal they.

Even scientists disagree on pronunciations. I knew a guy who came back from France and insisted on pronouncing "centimeter" as "sɑːntimeter" (starts like sonic).

I noticed east and west coast variations in pronunciations of technical words when I moved from grad school in Oregon to work in Maryland.

Please, no more corpse-men. The teleprompter should offer pronunciation cues.

Texas university just reported they are missing 100 brains.

There's got to be a connection here....

Was Pres Obama's election in 2012 the equivalent of putting the AE35 unit back into operation, only to have it not fail within 72 hours as the HAL 9000 predicted? Is the Media's distate for the Repub voters in 2014 equivalent to HAL's murderous actions against the crew subsequent to that mistake being made clear? Is the fact that Pres Obama just isn't a good leader/shouldn't have been re-elected in 2012 a secret the Media knows but can't disclose, and therefore equivalent to HAL's confidential mission data it had to hide from the crew, instigating the whole meltdown?

"Open the pod bay doors, HAL" = "don't take extra-Constitutional executive action on immigration law, Obama"

HH: "I don't like him, but I find this charming, actually."

Agree on both points. It was obvious that the audience liked his shtick too, especially where he mangled the names of their toys. Funny how most of the comments here miss the point -- O's way of showing a bit of respect for experts who know much more than him about whatever they do. Like HH, even if you don't like him, you need to open your eyes and see what's in front of you.

The missing brains were found in a university facility in San Antonio. The LA times sarcastic headline was, "Brains found in Texas--no, really."
