At the Red Gloves Café...

... applaud!

Applaud for whatever you like, but, me, I'm applauding for getting a new computer going today. All the accounts and the passwords! I loathe the details of technology. I just want this to work the way the computer that died worked. And I'm almost there. This is the first blog post on the new computer.

And, by the way, if you are enjoying this blog, you might consider doing your shopping at Amazon going in through the Althouse portal. For example, if you'd like the kind of cashmere-lined leather gloves Althouse dropped in the forest when she had to tie her shoelace, you can go here. The color is "claret."

We are expecting some kind of storm event towards the end of the week and may be even snow on the east coast..

I don't like to wear gloves.

I think those are the same gloves I got through the portal a few years ago. One of my best Xmas gifts ever.

My season's shopping on Amazon will be with the Althouse portal.
Good luck with your new computer, Ann.
Keep up the good work!

My work laptop crashed on Tuesday (Windows issue) and got a replacement. It is nice to not have to worry about setting it all up -- hate Windows (ask any Unix sys admin).

I don't use the autofill login apps...you get hacked and your life is over.

Replacing a HD is an opportunity to get a bigger HD.

Probably. I recommend them and the same brand with the silk lining. I've bought many pairs, in lots of different colors over the years.

My old computer died, so I'm rebuilding what I have from scratch.

I am very annoyed at the roadblocks to moving my music from the iPhone into the new iMac. All my CDs that I entered into my old computer are still in the iPhone, but I can't figure out how to transfer them.

And the iPhone is near death...

Yeah, computers suck. And I say this as someone who was 25 years old before I began to deal with them (so I remember life before computers), who's science career would not have been possible without them, and who, personally, love what they allow me to do. It's almost orgasmic that I can look up anything I want at 3am in the morning. But, computers really suck.

My guess would be that the folks at the Apple store where you bought the Mac could help you with that transfer, assuming you bought it from an Apple store rather than on line.

Surprised no marathon pictures today.

Will they keep out striped bass spines? I'm going commercial fishing in the morning.

And real men don't have a color named "claret". That's red.

The gloves are off! It's no holds barred!

You can't fool us, Althouse.

Those gloves are in an "I-have-an-evil-plan position".

Rep Mike Fisher, 8-term incumbent and architect of Vermont's single-payer pipe-dream was defeated Nov 4th.

Gov Shumlin, another major force behind single-payer did not get a majority, and was out-polled by a combination of Republican and Libertarian votes. He only won his plurality by 2,100 votes.

Local lefties are in shock.

Not applauding for what we already knew about obamacare....

"Obamacare architect Jonathan Gruber said that lack of transparency was a major part of getting Obamacare passed because “the stupidity of the American voter” would have killed the law if more people knew what was in it.

Gruber, the MIT professor who served as a technical consultant to the Obama administration during Obamacare’s design, also made clear during a panel quietly captured on video that the individual mandate, which was only upheld by the Supreme Court because it was a tax, was not actually a tax."

I hope you upcycled the gloves and the computer in a decent Madison First World Problems fashion.

I honestly don’t remember why I said that. I was speaking off-the-cuff. It was just a mistake. People make mistakes. Congress made a mistake drafting the law and I made a mistake talking about it. - Jonathon Gruber

So you see, it was nothing but a mistake for Gruber to talk about it! Simples! Just a typo!

There is a scene in American Pastoral, another great novel by Phillip Roth, the novel is about a guy who owns a glove factory in Newark, NJ, that works pretty well in that regard. And the glove is never used sexually, just to be clear.

In the cruelly titled "The Horse Whisperer," The New Republic's profile of Obama's svengali Valerie Jarrett, there's this tid-bit;

"At one point, Obama personally ordered Emanuel to rein in his habit of screaming at subordinates. Emanuel soon lost his cool at a subsequent meeting and received another talking-to from the president."

"Screaming"

The guy wouldn't last long at all in most companies, and he is tolerated by his boss.
