I thought only "yes" means yes: Did Obama get true, verbalized consent from that woman before he kissed her?

No. He did not. People are focusing on Obama's interplay with a man who said "Don't touch my girlfriend" as Obama was voting in Chicago, demonstrating how to vote.

But let's talk about the woman. Obama orders her to kiss him: "You're gonna kiss me. Give him something to talk about. Now, he's really jealous." As you see in the video, he makes that declarative statement and immediately grabs her and kisses and hugs her.

Why is that acceptable? He's using her in an effort to regain dignity and to humiliate the man who humiliated him. It might all be dismissed as play humiliation and play counter-humiliation. But the woman's body was used as an object of that play, a means of communication between men.

These are very important questions to ask, because by the standards now imposed by neo-Victorians who dare call themselves "feminist", this was sexual assault, and Ms. Cooper is now one of the 20% of women who are sexual assault victims. Either condemn the president for doing this, or admit that your standard is idiotic.

I'm sure they'll go after him with the same gusto they did for Bill Clinton. The difference here is Clinton was a bona fide sexual predator, and Obama just did something harmless.

eddie willers said...

Not to mention he had to show a photo ID.

As much as I don't like the Yes means yes laws, they do not require verbal consent, only affirmative consent. Actions that indicate consent count.

Of course actions can be ambiguous, but such ambiguity can be smoothed over by a lack of due process.

If this was done in the way the post describes, I would crush any man that did this to my wife.

And how stupid and pathetic does a president have to be to do this sort of thing? The pettiness and complete insecurity he must feel.

The obvious war on women crap aside. If a normal person did this on the outside that's assault if she was in any way hesitant.

I can only register disbelief at this point.

According to the Dept of Education's interpretation of Title IX, that's known as sexual assault.

Confirmed evidence the Obama and Clinton are/were sexual predators.

Obama's mental state needs continual narcissistic supply. The best supply are trophies like his Nobel Prize. This dude only wanted to protect his wife, so King Obama stole her from him to be another trophy.

"It's clearly all joking/in good fun on the video. It was just a cheek kiss."

I didn't see the video, but the article certainly makes it seem more joking and harmless than the sort of thing that would make anyone but a nut actually try to slug the president.

This sort of thing would normally elicit no reaction at all--just a politician being playful on the stump with a supporter, more awkward than offensive, and not reaching Bill Clinton's "one-grope" policy. But the neo-Victorians have taken things a step further with "only explicit yes means yes" and this sort of exchange is exactly what they should be called on to address.

The thing that got me was the voting booths. They are right next to each other, in plain view of the person next to you. They are in every way set up to allow "coaching" or intimidation. Our booths are giant pull lever deals with a small curtained room. WTF?

A few people on the left have had the sense to point this out, but for the most part, the Democrats who blacks reflexively vote for (and that's just an objective description when you're talking about 90+% rates) back the law. Once black and other minority students at CA colleges are subjected to racist enforcement measures, though, voting patterns will change!

You and Crack miss the point. There is a new or pending law in California for colleges requiring affirmative assent for sexual contact which is very loosely defined. The "yes means yes" controversy is widely discussed at the moment and is another move by the left to control your behavior, or at least the behavior of college students. The professor is making a bit of a sly joke at our President who could potentially be liable for expulsion from one of those California colleges if the woman he kissed decided, two years from now, that she was assaulted by him.

Lame is missing the point.

Robert D. Monroe, 50, used addresses in Shorewood, Milwaukee and Indiana, according to the complaint, and cast some votes in the names of his son and his girlfriend's son.

According to the complaint:

Monroe cast two ballots in the April 2011 Supreme Court election, two in the August 2011 Alberta Darling recall election, five in the Scott Walker-Tom Barrett recall, one illegal ballot in an August 2012 primary, and two ballots in the November 2012 presidential election.
---
The complaint indicates the investigation started in Waukesha County as an inquiry into possible double voting by Monroe's son, who lives in Waukesha. But the son denied any knowledge of requesting an absentee ballot from his father's Shorewood address, and the investigation shifted back to Milwaukee County.

So, the leftists who insist showing ID to vote won't stop voter fraud are correct, so we should go after the absentee voting next.

Whites used guns, and beatings, rapings, mutilation, castration (white men have still never explained their motivation for THAT one for some reason) overt and covert theft - and anything else they could think of - and they still ended up calling us "lazy" because we just wouldn't be slaves, as "white people wanted them to be," to do the work they would've done themselves if they were truly the people they claim, but (just like the French) lie to themselves they are.

And the best part is - THEY'RE STILL PROUD OF IT!

I'm a man, and would not be comfortable getting a cheek kiss from a stranger, male or female. It's an inappropriate crossing of boundaries.

However, the point we're making is that while this sort of thing is (often) unwanted and in those cases inappropriate, the fact that relatively minor things like this get lumped together in the "sexual assault" statistics that Obama's own Justice Department is throwing around. An unwanted cheek kiss may be uncomfortable or even offensive, but to put it in the same category as rape or even groping of private parts is absurd.

We wouldn't be poking fun at Obama for this if it weren't for the fact that he and his administration are normally so willing to lump these minor infractions in with real crimes.

It depends on context--from a close friend or a relative, a cheek kiss is really no different from a hug or handshake. But from a total stranger, it crosses a boundary. Not in the "call the cops" sort of way, or the "pistols at dawn" way that some commenters are suggesting, but just not done with people you don't know.

Of course, the context of Obama's kiss is probably different from that of a total stranger--traditionally, politicians kissed babies all the time, sort of as good luck or something, and of course with media and Secret Service around it doesn't seem the same as a Clintonesque bit of ribaldry. So it's really not a big deal here, though a bit of mocking of the "yes means yes" police is in order for this one.

What really saddens me about the Obama presidency is the blind unwavering support in the face of his lack of leadership. If racism is systemic, and I don't believe it is, but if it is, that blind defense of Obama will make it that much harder for the next black man or woman who comes along to be taken seriously as one who could be president. And I'm not talking about Ben Carson or Allen West, or any other current GOPer. I'm talking about the ones we haven't even met yet. By not calling out Obama for being the poor leader that he is, you've doomed the next and the next and the next. Good going, party of diversity. maybe that was the idea all along.

Find it interesting that this is almost ok in Chicago. Maybe it is purely coincidental, but this was Chicago, home of one of the more notorious Dem party machines.

The question of why Obama beat Hillary in the primaries and the possible role of sexism is an interesting one. I think Hillary's vote for the Iraq war definitely played a bigger role than any other single factor. There was also a lack of enthusiasm for the Clinton's as a package deal. Bill has worked hard over the last six years to improve his image within the party. Also, Obama is unquestionably a better campaigner than Hillary.

I doubt that sexism played a bigger role that racism in that particular contest. Both had a modest effect that effectively cancelled each other out.
