Have you ever noticed how hard it is to take a picture of a black dog? It doesn't seem to matter what the background is, the dog is just a black lump. If it is spread out properly you can see the outline of a dog; Otherwise it might as well be carved of coal and have some random features that, with an active imagination, be construed to be dog-like.
Suzie looks like a sweet dog. You can usually look at a dog and tell a lot about their temperament. I know, having had a LOT of dogs over the years. A. Lot.
Well, You might be surprised on that score. As a Gentleman of the Country I always have my dogs to accompany me on my rounds of the farm... we generally have about 10 at any one time. All have their roles to play. the hounds occupy the front porch, and provide security against unwanted guests and armadillos. the In-dogs are broken into two catagories, those who are inner-ring defense dogs and lappers. My Australian shepherd, Daisy, sleeps in the hallway leading to our bedrooms. Woe be to thee who thinks to slip up and slit the throat of the master one dark night. She herds us routinely and her nickname is 'Trig" because when we are in the kitchen fixing dinner she manages to place herself in the exact spot (trigonometrically speaking) to be in the way regardless if you are going to the sink, the stove or the fridge.
I have several cats too. (Not to violate some kind of, you know, rule about speaking of cats on the dog-blog or anything) They have a very important role to play in the cosmic order. (cats, that is) Every day they have to test the gravitational pull of the earth, to make sure it is not spontaneously dissipating. this is done by pushing an object off of an elevated surface, ensuring it still hits the floor and doesn't just float off into the ether. Usually the surface is my desk, and the objects vary from paperwork to brick-a-brack. The other day they had a particularly useful and spectacular experiment with a glass mayo jar filled with spare nuts, bolts, and washers that I had neglected to secure.
they were pleased to report gravity was still working.
A beagle! I love beagles. They are the very best kind of dog. They are: just the right size for living in the house; robustly healthy; just the right level of affectionate; sociable with kids and other dogs; willing to sound the alarm but not to attack; not so clever that they get easily bored and entertain themselves by destroying stuff; and the most pet-able of any breed, particularly on and around the ears. I could go on like this for ages. I would keep a vast pack of them, but for the necessary compromises with the wife.
