Khorasan.

The new thing that's scarier than the last thing we were scared of.

Got to keep moving along.

We have always been at war with eastasia

I'll guess that we will have to create a new boogie man every few weeks.

Why doesn't the MSM identify the money source behind these lunatics?....or would that be racist?

Terrorism is a pissant threat. Can take a couple thousand or so a half decade on countries we care about.
Ebola is a different magnitude.
Now news that scientists believe the fast-mutating virus has gone airborne??
Why, that is scary stuff indeed.!!

Time perhaps that RIGHTS!! may have to take a back seat to public safety.
Travel bans on Africans, Do-Gooders strongly discouraged from travelling to affected African lands, etc.
Quarantine for any US communities that - hopefully never - have Ebola cases happen in the next few years..

There are going to be a lot of names popping up and disappearing in and from the area north of the equator, south of Europe, and from the Chinese border to the Atlantic Ocean.
Part nationalistic, part religious, part ethnic, and a lot because half their populations are under 30 and do not have gainful employment.

There are two groups of people who are afraid of ISIS:

1. People who live near Syria and/or Iraq.

2. Morons.

When terrorists set off bombs and kill innocent children, you have a real threat.

Those KKK terrorists with robes , hoods, nonsense ceremonies and great titles were knock offs from Free Masons who were in turn knock offs from the Egyptian gods. So when the crazy middle-easterners threaten terror attacks, bombs and murders in the South we are coming full circle and take their threats seriously.

A good response would be to elect Jim Webb President in 2016 and go kill them all. Rand Paul might not think of that.

A line from early/mid-20th century America to early 21st century Iraq does not form a circle. It forms a line pointing far away from anything Americans need to give a crap about.

Hey Rev...Do we value Israel and Egypt? Remember the two regimes Obama tried to change by threats to withhold military aid.

Now Egypt's President Sisi ( that's his real name) says he will join in our fight against ISIL and its allied terrorist bands, provided that Obama will remove the hold he (i.e., Valerie Jarrett) put on a scheduled delivery of military equiptment to our ally Egypt just to destabilize Egypt and bring back the Muslim Brotherhood.

When will the NYT run that story?

Are you CBS' bitch? It was their story after all.

You're not to sharp on this stuff are you? It's no surprise you can't get tech work in the heart of silicon valley.

We need to hit them now before the next generation takes root on E!. Once embedded there, God help us all.

Would you mind spelling out your etc.here? What other rights do you forsee taking a back seat (which, just generally, is maybe not the best metaphor for that particular idea)?
Is the only difference between "right should be curtailed because of the threat of Ebola" and "rights should be curtailed because of the threat of terrorism" that you think ebola is a valid threat but terrorism is not? I mean, that's really the argument some of the people in favor of the creation of Homeland Security/NSA spy operations/police survelliance make, isn't it?

I understand the idea that the longer the virus is around and replicating the more likely it is to hit on a successful mutation allow it to become airborne, and from what I read ebola has a relatively low R0 but a high rate of mutation--has anyone seen an estimate of how long a wide population has to be infected before a mutation allowing airborne infection is likely?

Hey Rev...Do we value Israel and Egypt?

The idea that ISIS poses a significant threat to either nation is laughable.

The world needs the oil. Let's just acknowledge this and skip the histrionics.

Brando said...

Sure, why not--we're in a state of permanent war now. Our president needs no congressional authorization, we can bomb that region until it's stable. None of this will ever backfire on us, just because it always has in the past.

Dr Weevil said...

The idea that Al Qaeda posed a significant threat to anyone outside of Afghanistan and a few other far-way countries was laughable - on September 10, 2001. Most of us learned the next day that our laughter was misplaced. Anyone who thinks ISIS is no threat to the US or Israel or Egypt or the world in general now is in no position to call other people "morons".

chillblaine said...

"Some are...arguing that the Obama administration has exaggerated it to justify bombing Syria."

That doesn't sound like our president. He usually downplays security risks. Then again, given the administration's appalling contempt for OpSec, sounds about right.

They will always need to drum up a new nightmare to paper over their failure to deal with the last nightmare. "We can't deal with that now! LOOK THERE!"

It remains laughable. Our failed war against radical Islam has done more damage to this country than radical Islam ever managed to do.

Anyone who thinks ISIS is no threat to the US or Israel or Egypt or the world in general now is in no position to call other people "morons".

"Drooling imbecile" would perhaps have been more accurate. Your belief that Al Qaeda's one-time lucky attack justifies pants-shitting terror of every violent Muslim group on Earth is completely fucking insane.

Actually, it was the pussy ROE that caused that failed war. Having been to those countries a few times over the last 13 years, I can tell you that if we relaxed the ROE, and became as ruthless as our opponent, this could end rather quickly, but the American people have neither the stomach or the will for such a thing.

Paul said...

ISIS is not much of a threat to the USA now, but if it takes over Iraq and spreads to other Middle East countries then it could destabilize the Middle East.

We in the USA don't need that oil in the ME, BUT quite a few countries we trade with do.

If they go into a depression, then so will we and the rest of the world.

Thus ISIS needs to DIE, and DIE now.

Rev: There are two groups of people who are afraid of ISIS

1) There are some 40 ISIS members already in the continental US.

2) ISIS has already ordered "lone wolves" in Euro countries to randomly kidnap civillians and decapitate them on video

3).....

I never heard of this group and I am beginning to think our govt is just making shit up. OMG, I am sounding like Robert Cook.

I'm Full of Soup said...

Rev- you are wrong. I recommend we begin to carry weapons 247 to defend ourselves against lone wolf ISIS kidnappers [see plot foiled in Australia]. And I am serious.

Feels like we're Br'er Rabbit once again punching The Tar-Baby.

And to qualify my analogy. It has nothing to do with race. Just an 1881 folk tale. Yes Disney had to quash the VHS and DVD releases, but Splash Mountain still thrives at the magic kingdom.

Was ft hood lucky too? Or just work place violence? Benghazi was probably luck. Those two journalists that got beheaded were luck. Rotterdam was a dozen years of luck and pc failure.

I know it is really easy to sit on your couch and make pronouncements about what threats are out there. You may not be interested in ISIS. But they are interested in you. And your pronouncements about how stupid I am because I take them seriously? Well let's just say ignorance is the nice word. I think you are serious but there is so much stupid behind your certainty it is hard to tell.

But then again I have the benefit of first hand experience and you have a groove perfectly formed in your computer chair.

During Reconstruction, there was a saying, "Scratch a Democrat and you will find a Rebel." These days, you could swap out Muslim for Democrat, and Terrorist for Rebel, and you wouldn't be far wrong.

Today we hear Khorasan's plot wasn't imminent-immenent, but a different kind of imminent.

They want to bomb them, fine. But I hope this engagement isn't as full of word games as it seems it's going to be.

"Your belief that Al Qaeda's one-time lucky attack ...."

Five aircraft from how many different airports?

That was a well planned and expertly executed attack.

Can I take you at your word then that we'll never be attacked again?

Always assume the gun is unloaded.

Achilles: Was ft hood lucky too?

Oh, so that's what Ft. Hood was all about - we just weren't pouring enough billions into fighting in the ME while fattening corrupt contractors and fatuously attempting to social engineer our way through...er, excuse me, stabilize the ME?

Seems to me there's a much cheaper and easier way to prevent Army base massacres and street beheadings, but I admit I lack vision. Apparently the better way to keep the Major Hasans of the world out of our military, out of our country, and out of the West, where they have no business being in the first place, is to...

Do all of the above while 1) supporting and defending the Saudis, among others (who, while we're defending them, have been supporting our various enemies in the ME as well as being busy bank-rolling fundie Muslims' religious and propaganda centers for attacks on Western freedoms in the West), and 2) pouring more billions into maintaining refugee and "diversity" rackets to make sure that as many as possible of the millions of (culturally unassimilable) displaced persons, created by all that "stabilization", are funneled into Western countries, where some of them will inevitably feel a pressing need to go jihadi on the locals in lieu of, or in addition to, traipsing back home to kill infidels (including American soldiers) there. Rinse, repeat.

That's the batshit crazy system you're cheerleading. Doubtless if I had first-hand experience instead of being an ignorant couch potato it would all make perfect sense.

Revenant thinks people who want to deal with ISIS instead of pretending they will go away 'shit their pants' and 'drool'? Why the obsession with bodily fluids? Why the bald-faced lying? Anyone so intent on degrading people who disagree with him is quite transparently projecting his own moronic filth on others.
