"Why Mitt Romney is perfectly poised for a comeback in 2016."

"Nobody has ever rooted for that scrappy Romney kid to overcome the odds. Until, maybe, now."

2. Madison, WI
If people make the difference in a locale, that’s also true in Madison — unfortunately. In my dozens of trips to Wisconsin’s capital city, I found a pleasant area surrounded by many pristine lakes ruined by its residents. Collegians from around the country, their professors and local progressives team up to form Berkeley of the Midwest, where generally one ideological mindset is tolerated.
Most of downtown is swallowed by the enormous university. Once you peel through the masses, the capitol building is constantly obscured by either renovations or violent protests, thus you rarely get photos outside or inside the building.

Feel free to defend yourselves.

"Romney would similarly have to get real. No more phoniness. No more telling us what he thinks we want to hear. He would have to be utterly authentic, and he would have to show that losing caused him to encounter pain and reflection." - Lewis

This writing has a feminine point-of-view, it is writing for feminine point-of-viewers.

As a man, I would write "Romney needs to become God. Not some dumbass god, but God God. Romney needs to bowl 301, pitch a perfect game vs. the Yankees, throw a touchdown in the Super Bowl with time running out to win the big one, fly an F-16 into Benghazi and drop some ordinance, bang cocktail waitress's three and four at a time, tan until authentically Black, learn Spanish and Latin, and become Gay."

Yeah - Hot Air has that same nonsense but they're a little more realistic about it:

"How does Romney, who worked hard to undo his image as a centrist in 2008, then worked hard to undo his image as a social conservative in 2012, undo his image as a country-club Republican who sees the world in terms of “makers” and “takers”? And how does he improve with Latinos, who broke for Obama in a landslide because of his “self-deportation” comments?"

Undo his image as a candidate, guys,...

I don't think Romney is going to run, no matter how many people try convince him to run.

He knows he's got too much baggage and he knows how much the last run took out of him and his family.

Besides, if the mid-term elections this year go all crazy, Romney may not even be the right sort of candidate for the 2016 election.

Peter said...

Romney lost because he did not succeed in projecting an image of himself, and thus wound up being defined by his opposition.

In order to run again successfully, he'd have to somehow undo that.

" He would have to be utterly authentic, and he would have to show that losing caused him to encounter pain and reflection."

Romney was always authentic. That's who he is. The voters preferred a liar who told them what they wanted to hear, and of course, he's the right color to make them feel good about themselves

How does Romney, whose own son admitted that Dad didn't really want to run last time, convince us he's going to put up a meaningful fight this time?

Michael K,

A fake, "undoing" every image he's ever projected because there's no core beyond a con man's Mormon "teachings".

Romney's Homeopathy investments should tell you all you need to know, about the man's integrity and how much he cares,...

This.

2012 demonstrated that we have officially become an idiocracy.

All civilizations come to an end. We just happen to be alive at the time this one is unraveling.

Yeah - did you notice how the crazies go totally end-of-the-world apocalyptic every time they consider how whites aren't exclusively running the world any longer?

The sky is falling! The sky is falling!

Surely signs of an idiocracy.

Silly white people,...

Yes, 2012 certainly demonstrated that we have officially become an idiocracy, when Republican primary voters decided the way to beat Obama was to nominate Mr. Romneycare, a flip-flopping Taxachusetts RINO who sets the pyrite standard for authenticity.

Nothing to defend. As Althouse is constantly pointing out, the only worthwhile thing in Madison is a couple of the dogs and a few of the flowers. Everything else sucks ass.

Romney won't run. By his lights he's done his duty to the American public, and the American public was not impressed. As of today,he's enjoying his retirement.

More's the pity. Please don't go on about Romney being a RINO, a Mormon conspiracist, a Ken doll, a dog torturer. All ad hominem crap. The truth is, we haven't had a candidate in a hundred and fifty years with as much integrity as Romney has. I think we may have never had a candidate with as much proven skill in running large, amorphous organizations.

We blew it once, folks, but there's an outside chance that he could yet run. If he does, we'd better count our blessings.

Tell me, why is it so important that you buy me a slice of pizza - which I am supposed to be pleasant and grateful for - but NOT you helping blacks get the government to give us what's rightfully ours, so I'd already have eaten?

Seems like a cynical cheap trick - not a generosity,...

Re: Crack:

"I mean, really, the culture that kept slavery going for almost 300 years is complaining that standards have fallen?"

Yes, those absolute pikers. In Korea, we kept slavery going for an hundred generations until the system all fell apart in the 19th century. Hereditary slavery was abolished only in 1886, and the Japanese pushed through abolition in 1895 as part of the Gabo Reforms.

Two thousand years of slaves begetting slaves begetting slaves. White Americans cannot hope to compete with such magnificent cruelty. 300 years of slavery? Faugh! The great slaveholders of the past laugh. Even the Arabs and the Africans kept it going longer than that. It is one area where the third world can sneer down with supercilious superiority at Whites. It's the milk of human kindness that makes them so pale, you know.

To be serious for a moment, though, the record of White American culture on slavery is better than basically anyone else's, frankly, other than White British culture (since they got there a generation before). There were movements towards abolition in other societies at other times, but none lasting or successful that I am aware.

As opposed to African culture, which has kept slavery alive to the present day. :)

Black people invented slavery. White people invented the abolition of slavery. You're welcome, by the way.

Clearly, THIS culture ended slavery quick fast and in a hurry when viewed over the course of historic time periods.

Romney isn't a candidate for president. However, I would vote for Herman Cain or Dr. Carson in a heartbeat. If she would run, Condoleezza Rice would be very interesting to me even if she isn't as conservative as I would prefer.

If you want to trash whitey, trash the librul well-to-do whiteys who would put those candidates through racial hell. So I would completely agree with you if you amended your statement to say "Librul whites are INSANE".

Unfortunately, I can't think of a white guy or gal who is likely to run that I would like, although Paul Ryan would be great.

Romney was right about issues I don't give a crap about, e.g. whether or not Putin's a threat.

He's as wrong as Hillary on issues I *do* care about, e.g. reigning in the explosive growth of the welfare-warfare state.

The question isn't "am I happy Obama won". The question is "would I be happier if Romney had won". The answer is "no".

Obama is not worse than Romney on any issue that matters. They're both economic leftists who think America should be Global Cop.

I do know that would be tough for you so I will extract a tiny quote.

Adding in these students, the real unemployment rate among U.S. citizens and permanent residents is at least 18 percent.

Feel free to refute the numbers and explain how Romney, the guy who revived dozens of companies and the Salt Lake City Olympics, could not do better.

Why? I didn't say Obama was good.

Romney, the guy who revived dozens of companies and the Salt Lake City Olympics, could not do better.

Jimmy Carter and Al Gore are both much better businessmen than Ronald Reagan or George Bush. Your belief that "good CEO" equates to "good political leader" is cute, but ignorant.

As a governor, Romney increased both taxes and spending and saddled the state with a miniature version of ObamaCare. Feel free to prove he would have been different as President.

Nice - a reasonable person to talk to - though I think you're mistaken:

The system of slavery, practiced throughout the world, didn't incorporate the concept of "family" into itself - think of "Mammy" to the white household - in the way American slavery did. This, amongst many other things, made the American version "peculiar". The "Master" slept with his slaves against their will - and made them work in the same manner. That wasn't part of the system the world practiced, as a cultural phenomena, where everyone understood the rules - it was kidnapping, rape, mutilation, theft, and a crime.

Why whites keep trying to minimize it is the mystery. You claim to be disinterested parties, just having a discussion, but you spend your time trying to defend the indefensible. If it wasn't you, fine - but make the other bastards pay because, I 100% guarantee you, there's somebody out there, right now, being mocked for being poor by whites, making them listen to that same lame "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" bullshit, when they're the real perps in the whole thing for by not recognizing everybody's humanity, to begin with, and defending it.

That's where we are - as Americans.

Also, as The Case For Reparations makes clear, this isn't just about slavery but what came after it as well.

But, not even counting that, is to say America's slavery was "better" than others a compliment? Really? You want to "gild the lilly" on owning my relatives? You want to buy the myth of the "kind slave owner" while shoving it down the throats of 30 million blacks at the same time?

White people ask too much,...

The Crack Emcee said...

Revenant,

"As opposed to African culture, which has kept slavery alive to the present day."

Because slavery - as practiced throughout the world, culturally, over the course of history - was always the same.

The Crack Emcee said...

Krumhorn,

"Clearly, THIS culture ended slavery quick fast and in a hurry when viewed over the course of historic time periods."

You know what's funny about that - I mean really knee-slapping hilarious?

You give more credit to the country than to the slaves who ran away and otherwise confounded the system - a fact revealing, you must remember, if they hadn't done so, the country would've had no reason to abolish anything.

Like I said, you talk like fools. You give whites credit they don't deserve and the country as well.

Whites didn't free the slaves. The country didn't free the slaves:

The slaves freed the slaves.

Because they were the only ones who really cared,...
