There's probably no end to people with fond Betty Bacall stories. Could be a long thread.

..and so she did. Lots and lots of them.

Yeah fuck those guys!

Could you imagine the outcry if somebody posted a tweet quoting Robin williams saying something similar about women?

Lauren Bacall.

Why should I care about this woman?

I've been trying to figure it out and, for the life of me, I can't.

Fuck Lauren Bacall,...

If she took Bacall's advice, she'd likely not have boyfriend problems.

Hate speech. When is it cool and cute and something to burble about?

Hate speech? Or an opinion born of a lifetime's experience? Ann, men and women of a certain age have been expressing that sentiment ever since Lucy the protohominid decided to climb out of Olduvai Gorge because she was fed up with those asshole australopithecines. Bacall at least can do it with a certain panache.

Ann Althouse,

"Hate speech. When is it cool and cute and something to burble about?"

When it's in celebration of actors and actresses who, because of racism, didn't have to compete fairly for movie roles. They're touted as being the best - top of their game - without having to ever prove it.

So - given that pass - they can say anything.

Can you imagine the reaction if Obama said anything remotely truthful about how he really felt on race, whites, and American history?

Dead or alive, whites would have nothing kind to say,...

Well, she got her little moment of publicity with this hack tweet. FU2, whoever you are.

And that is exactly why his and Michelle's college records and transcripts are sealed.

Just because a brief message of support to a friend has been made public after the sender's death, that doesn't mean the sender meant it as a public statement, or to express anything other than an attempt to buck up the recipient.

If it weren't for the fact that there's a long trail of evidence that he's a real, sad little man, you'd have to assume Crack was a parody. A crude, poorly-sketched stereotype of a man who keeps coming back to the same topic incessantly regardless of its applicability.

The charitable way to interpret this nonsense is that the brutality of the state paramilitary thugs in Ferguson sent him round the bend (though in fact that's mostly about what happens when you arm to the teeth the half-witted, petty, tyrannical enforcers of the police state).

It's more and more bizarre, however, that Althouse is comfortable with EVERY SINGLE THREAD turning into a race war. EVERY SINGLE THREAD becomes an argument about whether white people are morally inferior, or whether it's reasonable to give a voice to a ranting racist.

Again, I'm blacker than Obama.

She looks like quite a strong and lovely lady. It is a truism that for men sex and aggression are combined. Maybe it was the secret to her cinematic charm that Miss Bacall subtly conveyed a similar woman's attitude toward a man.
