"I fought head on with it for almost half an hour. Then I came to know it was dead."
In case you are wondering how long a 56-year-old woman will fight with a leopard and whether the leopard is sure to win in the end.

She might've saved herself a mauling if she was packing heat. What are the gun laws like in India?
Guns cost money.
What a pretty pelt.
I hope someone makes a purse for her.
I'm amazed that the leopard didn't quit after getting such a fight. Predators are thought to be more interested in not getting hurt because that keeps them from hunting.
Amazing woman!
In Memoriam A H H by Tennyson recalls a christian man,
"Who trusted God was love indeed
And love creations final law
Tho Nature red in tooth and claw,
With ravine shrieked, against his
creed."
Guardian type men are still in demand.
Skyler: Nobody wants a fair fight.
i wonder how the first few seconds went for both sides and whether she got the scythe and spade between her and the Leopard. Both are lethal if used effectively. Up till the 1500's, most National Levies came to battle with slightly modified farm tools. See Agincourt. Billhooks, axes, and mauls being the most effective...
Skyler: (Point 1) From what I know, predators usually size up the situation carefully before an attack; but once the attack is underway they are single-minded and determined in carrying it out. (Point 2) The animal may have been inexperienced and desperate. Jim Corbett, who killed the famous Rudraprayag leopard, wrote that he had not seen a case of a daylight attack by a man-eating leopard. He believed that a leopard turned man-eater almost immediately realized that people at night were almost defenseless against it, while they were dangerous in the day.I'd like to know the age and condition of this leopard.
If this lady ever sat in front of me on a plane, I would let her recline her seat.
You go, girl. And she wasn't even defending her pups.
That's a good point, Drill Sgt, but I'd point out that the side that had the local levy in Agincourt was the French, and they lost. :)
Ambrose wins the thread.
Well, come on, she had a goddam sickle. It wasn't a fair fight at all. BTW, you can't help wondering how many of the thirty minutes she was struggling with a dead leopard.

Well, let's do an experiment and find out. When she's back on her feet you go make these remarks to her face and we'll keep track of how long she struggles with your dead body. :D
I was once shown a photograph of a nearly Stone Age Saudi Arabian mountain dweller from the southwest Asir region. He was stumpy, barefoot, had a shaggy mane of black hair, and was wearing a failthy over-one shoulder loin cloth.
The story I heard was that he had been trapped in a cave by a leopard or panther-type animal and had fought it to the death with a knife.
Next to him stood a classically dressed Saudi man wearing a stainless white those, and he looked afraid to even be next to his Tarzan-type country cousin.
Does anyone here even care that species like leopards, elephants are going extinct by 2025?

1) Bullshit
2) If true, the answer is easy...making raising them profitable. Bring back leopard skin fashion, only make it real leopard skin, and have people raise them for their fur. Make elephant meat a delicacy, and have shows on the Food Network praising it...people will make millions raising elephants for food.
There is a reason cows and mink are not endangered.

It's like beating a dead horse. Sickling a dead leopard.
There is something about the phrase "Then I came to know that it was dead" that suggests she erred on the side of caution.
Compare the dead chef, bitten by the severed head of a cobra.
Apex predator, baby! I hate to see big cats die but she earned her victory the hard way--good job Kamla Devi.

Sure I do. But I would be unwise to let the feeling influence my actions toward a particular leopard that was trying to kill me.
If you cared about the endangered species, you'd let it have it's way with you instead of killing it.
Just sayin'.
Hoorah! What a dame!
We should give her a permanent resident visa
That's the kind of fight that we need in our people
A: As noted, 'leopard are going extinct' is bullshit.
B: Say it were true; better for her to let it eat her, you moron?
C: Capstick once wrote that while a lion, if it got you, was far more likely to kill you(speaking of someone hunting), a leopard was about five times more likely to reach you and bite & claw the tax-reform act out of you. And once committed, they don't generally stop. However long he was actually dead, I'll still tip my hat to the lady.

Not so much. Although you might let it have it's ways with someone else.
It's not like we have too many leopards but we don't have enough people.
The story referred to "her lucky escape". She killed the f*cking leopard with the farm implements she had with her. The only thing "lucky" about it was that she was a farmer and not a lawyer. It's very hard to kill a leopard with Title VII of the Annotated Laws of Uttarakhand.
Nonapod,
Indian gun laws, for anything but the elite, are quite restrictive. However, there is a small but growing gun-rights movement there, motivated not so much by 4-legged predators but rather the 2-legged variety (recent rape atrocities in particular.)
There is a reason cows and mink are not endangered.
And there are probably more chickens around than there ever were passenger pigeons. Not as pretty, but damn good eating.
I am pretty sure Alex is just trolling us again, but Dreamer Boy, who said, basically, that Cops should not have an absolute right of self defense, was, I think, being sincere.

Yeah, but rationally I shouldn't, having had approximately zero interaction with either. Besides, humans already wiped out the coolest mammals.
Orynx are not going extinct, even though they are nearly so in Africa because they are being bred on Texas ranches and have adapted to life on the Southwest plains.
But now greens are trying to shut down even the Texas ranches. One idiot actually said she would rather see the species go extinct than be exploited by men.
