In other meat-and-Twitter news — also with graphic photography — in Yulin, China, they celebrate the solstice "by slaughtering thousands of dogs, simmering their meat in hotpots, and serving them with litchis and booze to locals and visitors":
But China’s growing numbers of pet owners are paying attention—and they and their supporters are pressuring locals to stop the slaughter. Animal rights activists, law professors and lawyers say the festival is illegal... Some celebrities have taken to Sina Weibo (SINA), China’s answer to Twitter (TWTR), to denounce dog consumption.

Meat comes from the supermarket.
Or maybe Whole Foods.
I love to have some dog- and cat-eating Chinese and Koreans as neighbors so as to help reduce the annual 1 billion songbird slaughter.
[serving dogs with litchis and booze]
For Christ's sakes, that is nauseating! Everyone should know that dog is served with kumquats and beer.

I am a lesbian/vegetarian with a long time partner who we share a home with our 3 beauties,Guinevere,Gaby & Hudson(cat & 2 dogs) :)
I wonder if her cat and dogs are vegetarian as well.
What's up with the cultural Imperialism of Progressives?
Is it that hard to grow parsley, or does this lady just hold a grudge?
It would be disappointing to find out if those rumors were true: Meade had secretly been running Puparazzo as a front for a lucrative dog meat business to Yulin.
Each photo gained shocking, new significance.
'Yes Mr. Chen, it's a Goldendoodle. G-O-L-D-E-N means special extra-tasty safe meat. You buy now.'

I believe there are vegetarian pet foods available. Probably not very healthy however.
Finally! Someone with enough GUTS to step up and proudly proclaim the true evil-- the true worst-of-the-worst terrorist element-- that plagues our great nation... Those fucking bunnies!!!! They get a foothold and then soon enough you see one here and turn your head and there's another one over there and then you think there's something behind you and you jump around only to see that fucking malevolent face munch munch munch staring with its all-encompassing dark eyes like it were reading the deepest fears of your soul...
Thank God we have Anthony Bourdain on our side. And the NRA. And Elmer Fudd...
Nothing against killing rabbits and nothing against showing them half skinned, but did she have to include the cute little bunny face in the picture.

Mmmm, rabbit. Rabbit with mustard sauce. Rabbit hunter style. Grilled rabbit with rosemary. And a nice Pinot Noir. Yum. And for all you Muricans who won't eat ol' Bugs Bunny, more for me. Same goes for duck. Please don't eat it.
I like my spotted owls boiled, stewed or fried.
It's not so hard to grow parsley. It's just that it tastes better when converted to meat.
I always did root for Mr McGregor in those Peter Rabbit stories.
It's hard to grow parsley when the rabbits eat it. Pretty easy when you eat the rabbit. Nice looking rabbit, too.
The other thing is hat she could have picked a better instagram filter to make it look more arty.

Obama family hardest hit.
It's weird that I can not have an opinion about abortion or my civil right to carry a gun. Or the definition of marriage. (to be determined by the legislature)
But I am supposed to honor every nut ball that is totally clueless about the origination of food and the importance of protein in any diet.
Dont like, or eat meat?
Here's a secret. NOBODY cares. STFU
City people are so precious when they find out where meat actually comes from.
What Larry Day said.
There's a reason people prefer grass-fed beef, you know. Hey, you put parsley on the bunny after it's slaughtered. Maybe parsley in it while it's still hopping around is even better.
I am a former Iowan who knows how hard it is to keep wild rabbits from destroying a garden. I now live 1000 miles away. One of my coworkers made his first visit to Iowa and came back to report that the biggest pest in Iowa was not poisonous snakes or predatory bobcats but rabbits. His comment was, "Even the pests are friendly!"
...serve over 10,000 dogs a day during the festival, many of them pets or watchdogs stolen from their owners and then crammed into cages and trucked hundreds of kilometers to slaughterhouses.
The problem here is the demand spike at the Solstice festival. If more dog were eaten during the year, the supply side should become smoother.
Nice skinning job on the cat, BTW.

The French eat horses. Many Asians eat dog and the Chinese consider cat the other white meat. Especially in poorer areas, people can't afford to throw away good sources of protein.
My wife is a Filipina. When she hears about people spending thousands of dollars on vet bills for their pets, she laughs and says, "Americans are crazy." Her family had dogs as pets when she was growing up. If the dog got hurt, it ended up in the pot. They didn't see their dogs as much different from the chickens and rabbits they also raised for food. I have it on good authority that short-haired dog tastes better than long-haired dog and that dog adobo is delicious.

She did a pretty good job of skinning the rabbit.
I'd love to kill all the squirrels in my yard. Too bad it's maybe illegal to discharge a firearm in Madison. (Unless you're a cop killing someone of course, but then you're just following procedure).
But I am supposed to honor every nut ball that is totally clueless about the origination of food and the importance of protein in any diet.
Progressives are bullies.
In the movie Roger and Me there is a woman who raises rabbits in Flint MI.
She has a tshirt that says (something's) Rabbit Farm
Underneath it says "Pets or Meat"
And my favorite pony feel-good story is from back in the 90's. A couple of Samoans, IIRC, show up at a farm selling ponies in the LA area. They want a pony for a little girl's birthday, they say.
They buy it, load it in the back of a pickup and kill it with a sledge hammer then drive off.
Seller calls the cops who trace the license plate and find the Samoans having a birthday party for a girl and the pony roasting on a spit.

Madison Man,
You can buy a pellet gun that will handle small game easily. I bought one because I had inadvertently trapped a skunk by my chicken coop, and had no way to release it. It killed it dead on the second shot. I was keeping my distance on the first one. I am not sure, but I think you need one with a muzzle velocity of 1100 fps.
This one's good.
My former agent, rest her, and her husband were vegetarians and had their dogs on a vegetarian diet. When I was rooming with and working for them I would occasionally bring meat into my room.
Those dogs looked at me like I was the Marines landing after a tsunami...
My fee-yancy was a ranch girl but she apparently had lived in the city too long to get her country back on. She has flatly told me I am not shooting deer on our property. We'll see how well that works when her veggie garden comes in. I may have to run them off with a paintball gun or something.
Oddly she has no trouble with my shooting feral hogs under the same circumstances. Feral hogs never got a cute Disney movie.
Living in the metro Denver area, one gets used to the bunnies that live everywhere there is grass. If it wasn't for the coyotes and other predators, we would be comparing bunnies to tribbles. Those bad, mean coyotes, don't they know they are violating the bunnies' civil rights? We must come up with the appropriate hashtag so we can feel good about ourselves and shame the coyotes into becoming vegans.
A couple of weeks ago, a friend of mine shot a couple of rabbits in her garden. She called me and asked if I wanted to do dinner. We went over and I prepped the bunnies. Nice, big ones. I spatchcocked them, rubbed them with EVOO, salt, pepper, pimenton and fresh rosemary, and smoke roasted them over peach wood. Great dinner.
Cows need to get better publicists. When the movie Babe came out I bet it got a lot of kids to stop eating pork. There needs to be a movie about a cute calf.
It will cut meat sales in half.
I also had another idea for a movie. It's called Look Who's Talking 3. It will be the same premise as look who's talking 1 with the baby in the womb talking to the audience, but this time the mother is going to abort the baby and the baby doesn't know. It will start as a comedy but will end tragically with he baby aborted. Last scene we get to see its carcass thrown into garbage bags with other body parts.
Explain to her that deer are just goats with better publicity.
New Zealand Easter Bunny Hunt.
I don't especially care for rabbit, mind, but they're a sight easier to skin than a whitetail or muley, unless you use the old pickup truck and chain trick...
Miss Winterson on BBC Radio 4, from yesterday. Three minutes or so. Online for another four or five days.

Have been reading some of her tweets, and did listen to that Radio 4 interview; have also been laughing out loud at the shock! that someone like Jeanette Winterson!! could do such an horrific thing!!! so outrageous to the sensibilities of the Guardian/NYT/Radio 4 audience. Thanks for this! am sorry I came to it a day late.
