"If you were trying to have sex with a girl and you’re talking to her privately and you don’t think anybody’s there, you may say anything in the world!... So they should take away for life your team [if] you say the wrong thing to a girl?... I know what I said was wrong."
Sterling speaks... again.

I'm actually perfectly fine with this explanation because it does sound honest. I'd like one more admission on his part, and that is that the secret cadre of backroom racists he needs to keep up a front for don't exist.
Whether they know it or not, many guys sound this insane, in their own special way, when they get that way. Ridiculous demands are made, covered by very shoddy reasoning.
(And they say women can't be trusted to be stable because of their periods. Hah. That's only once a month. Imagine having random boners interfere with your capability for rational thinking into your 80s.)
He fails to understand the first law of holes.
Man, if people knew some of the things I've said to get into a girls pants, both true and false, I'd be completely ostracized from society.
Thank the Lord I am neither famous, nor rich.
I'm not a billionaire, so I'm wondering how racist comments help you get chicks.
I don't get the outrage.
Derbyshire said last week
All right, I've finished with Cliven Bundy. Just as we were all traipsing back from the auditorium after our Two Minutes Hate against him, though, the whistle went off again and we had to turn round, head back to our seats, and work up another Two Minutes Hate against Donald Sterling.
Now it's another two minutes hate session.
And I suppose had he been thinking that way and told her, "I happen to know that Chris Paul can't play next game so why don't you bet big against the Clippers so you can buy yourself a fifth fancy set of wheels", that would be ok too.
With the added qualification that severe racism and the most stupid forms of sexual jealousy aren't mutually exclusive and might be causal.
It used to be an unwritten rule among guys (maybe still, I don't know)that this was an absolute excuse. "Hey what happened last night, we were supposed to meet for drinks; I had the Yankee tix." "Oh sorry man, I was on my way, but I met this girl..."
Charm must not be his forte.
"I’m talking to a girl. I’m trying to have sex with her..."
So, this scandal is a massive "cock-block" for Sterling.
It did seem obvious from the start that Sterling was talking about other dudes, not really "black people" in general.
As I commented right after the story broke:
Coincidentally, I first saw this story on the news immediately after watching the tail end of a "Big Bang" episode where one of the nerds is jealous when they go to a scientific conference and his girlfriend meets an old professor/boyfriend played by ex-NBA player Rick Fox.
Hilarity ensued.
I dunno, a double standard when so-called "racism" is funny?
Sterling's lawyers should duct tape his mouth.
"Hey, lady, let's f**k" would have displayed more charm. Probably would have been more effective, too.
Wait a minute. He's a billionaire, she works for him, he lavishes gifts on her -- and she DOESN'T sleep with him?!!!
I was ready to cut him some slack because it was a private conversation, and I thought he sounded drunk, but if he is really that much of a wimp, then he better sell the team and go into some line of work that's better suited to pathetic, lying, wimps.
Like journalism.
They probably already were having sex in the non-sexual Bill Clintonesque sense of the word. Otherwise why in the world would he have the audacity to tell her that he was bothered by who she was broadcasting on insta? That would have guaranteed he'd never get anywhere with her. I guess when you are that rich you don't have be rational anymore.
I also interpreted the original tape as jealousy. But they probably already were having sex in the non-sexual Bill Clintonesque sense of the word. Otherwise why in the world would he have the audacity/stupidity to tell her that he was bothered by who she was instagramming? That kind of complaint would have guaranteed he'd never get anywhere with her.
I guess when you are that rich you don't have be rational anymore. Poor Donald, even when he's trying to tell the truth he blows it.
So discriminating against blacks and latinos in housing was also a play for pussy?
If you have to pretend to be a racist to get laid when you're rich, you deserve what you get.
Anyway, his wife will get the team in the end. I'm sure she's earned it being married to this asshole.
Social nuance is a very awkward subject for this guy. For better or worse, he is the voice to reveal a progressive violation of private and public space, and exposure of the "civil rights" protection racket.
I'm wondering what his motive could be for this obvious selfie setup.
I don't think the NBA players and owners are going to be impressed. Public opinion may be moved a notch or two - but his problem is not public opinion. It's the NBA players and owners.
Nothing he's going to say now will cure that problem.
You start thinking with the head below your belt and all good sense and discretion goes out the window.
I'll stipulate that Donald Sterling is a dick..
Are we supposed to re-hate on this guy based on this? Because he said he'd say anything to a woman for sex? Glad they rooted out the one guy in the NBA who would do that!
Derp.
Sterling is banned for life for saying something stupid on tape. Meanwhile, the Nets owner stole billions from the Russian people thanks to his Russian mob connections and the NBA is "no problemo. Nothing to see here. Move along."
I'd prefer he ignore the racist angle and hit hard on the invasion of privacy. Every one us says things privately that we would have said differently if we knew it would. Be public. All of us. The activists won't be mollified, but they're not the target audience.

She was involved in the housing discrimination activities also. Their rental agent alleged in a deposition she made similar comments to his about not wanting blacks in their buildings, and she's on video posing as a government official harassing black tenants. This didn't come out at the same time so it hasn't brought widespread attention, but if she tries to keep the team it will.
Does it really take that much charm or persuasion after the gift of a Bentley or two? Why two Bentleys? I can understand a Bentley and, perhaps, a Ferrari for more casual occasions and an Escalade for snowy days. But why two Bentleys? It seems redundant and unimaginative to give two Bentleys. She probably thought he didn't care and was hurt by the gift of the second Bentley.
tim maguire: I'd prefer he ignore the racist angle and hit hard on the invasion of privacy.
That's just it, isn't it? Groveling never works anyway, it's just chum in the water. That it's the default response these days even of people who aren't vulnerable wage-slaves is telling. "Piss off" followed by immediately going on the offensive would work better.
I thought that was the whole point of having a lot of money. You could afford to do that.
That... actually makes some degree of sense.
In the Barbara Walters interview she said that she was going to basketball games with people and it was getting back to Seterling that these were thugs. So you could argue that he didnt' want it to get back to him that she's having thugs over and he doens't want the association to rub off on him.
But are these rivals for her affection in his mind? Earlier on i said it sounds like a cuckolding type scenario where he didn't want it to get out that she was seeing other people, or other blacks becasue then it looks like he's getting cheated on in public by his lover, or wanna be lover.
