"Show the world you're proud of health care reform."

"Simply connect with OFA on Facebook, and we'll send you a brand-new bumper sticker free of charge."

Email from Organizing for American sent me there, and I am a tad freaked out that the bumpersticker is displayed on exactly the car model and color I used to own (AKA "Li'l Greenie").

They have adopted the Tea Party flag symbol and that seems an exercise in arrogance.

At first I thought it was some kind of IUD.

It will be interesting to see if this is a coincidence or something they have planned. Showing your car.

If planned, it seems to demonstrate incompetence as they can't get the car right. (Question: How long ago did you have the car?)

Also incompetence as I think many people would find it creepy if the pic was of their car. Moreso in these days of heightened snooping awareness than perhaps in the past.

To get to the height of creepiness, they should have Little Greenie in the ad showing the scrape on the fender where you hit the side of the garage door.

Has anyone else heard of customized cars in the ad?

Or am I just being paranoid? And if so, am I being paranoid enough?

These are precious. I will keep them with my Gerald Ford's "W.I.N" (Whip Inflation Now) buttons.

Like Li'l Greenie was, Obamacare needs to be totaled.

Maybe what we need is some bumper stickers showing the gadsden snake and saying "Don't tread on my health insurance."

Perhaps underneath "I like it and I want to keep it."

Didn't it used to be a racist wingnut slur to call the ACA "Obamacare"?

The downward spiral. At least there's some truth in their advertising.

It's the distinct mustard color and the corrupted phrase which resemble the Gadsden flag. The stethoscopic serpent looks contrived (as I'm sure it was).

Why didn't they just use the traditional snake imagery for medicine, the Rod of Asclepius?

chickelit said...

The Rod of Asclepius also has a phallic component which ObamaCare lacks and sorely needs.

somefeller said...

This is an abomination. Doesn't Obama realize that only conservatives are allowed to appropriate American historical imagery for their own political purposes? The cheek!

I'm not bothered by it. I just think the snake part looks stupid and they could have easily melded the Gadsden Flag with an Asclepius serpent.

A study says stethoscopes are dirty, nasty and filthy. the perfect thing to promote Obamacare.

Who would be saying this? Someone getting subsidies? Someone forced onto the exchanges? Someone on his parents insurance for another few years?

Who has Obamacare and loves it so much?

You hardly ever see bumpers stickers any more. We've bee driving all over California, and have seen about 3 cars with bipumpers tickers. 2 pro-Obama, with several years worth of stickers, and one Nobama sticker.

But people just don't junk up their cars with stickers anymore. Cars last too long for some fleeting sticky statement.

It's not the fact that they are using the flag that is the problem. The problem is:

A) The Left has been calling the Gadsen flag racist and intolerant for five years. Using it themselves now is just a little much.

b) The Gadsen flag represents freedom from opressive government, which makes its use in this case more than a little ironic.

"Who has Obamacare and loves it so much?"

Inga, on here, said she had it and her premiums were going to go down $100.00 a month.

I asked her to prove it. Showed her my health care last year and my health care this year and asked her to do the same so we could compare and contrast.

She never did. I've yet to see anyone demonstrate that they are better off under Obamacare.

On the other hand, I know quite a few people who are suffering greatly under Obamacare. I don't need to read the online stories, because it's happening to friends of mine.

Yes, well, the left has appropriate many images of America. If only they cared about it.

That's easy, MayBee. I still see some Obama stickers, some COEXIST claptrap & but mostly "My kid made the honor roll at [school name] - because anyone that puts a sticker that dissents from Leftist dogma in this state is risking having one's car keyed or worse.

2004 was the last time I put a sticker on my car -- to vote NO on Prop 66 (which would have gutted 3 srikes) ... the sticker was defaced several times (I kept replaced it twice) and the my car was egged.

So I stopped expressing any thing that might offend the Left-fascists when I couldn't watch my car 24/7.

Love it. An effeminate l'il toothless snake, slim 'n' trim from his regular yoga class, sipping chai latte and curling up with his iPad to do a little Facebooking on the back of a lime-green Prius. I'm guessing the same design team that came up with Pajama Boy?

The left now calls it "Obamacare". There, it's not racist anymore to call it what it is.

Dr Weevil said...

Looks like their subconscious is making a couple of interesting admissions:

1. Obamacare is POISONOUS. It will kill far more people than it will save.

2. Obamacare is like a SNAKE lurking in the grass. They couldn't tell us what was in it, and had to 'deem it passed' because they couldn't actually pass it Constitutionally, like every other piece of legislation ever. And then they had to get the Supreme Court to use transparently false reasoning to defend it.

Unlike the Gadsden flag snake, this one doesn't seem to be a rattlesnake. The point of the original flag is that the snake-warrior doesn't strike first, doesn't go in search of people to bite, but if you step on him, he will bite back and hurt you worse than you hurt him. The Obamacare snake just bites people.

So many leased cars now could be one reason. You can't give it back with the sticker on it, and if you do, they'll probably charge you to remove it.

Others have already noted that the Gadsden flag symbolizes the opposite sentiment as that of the sentimental organizers for america.

A more appropriate cultural borrowing would be the symbol of King George III:

a horse courant Argent (For Hanover), ... for Supporters, dexter a lion rampant guardant Or crowned as the Crest, sinister a unicorn Argent armed, crined and unguled Proper, gorged with a coronet Or...

Nothing shows the world you're proud of health care reform like a unicorn.

Only in 1930s Germany and Communist countries.

It's apparent that the stethoscope/Gasden flag riff is intended to be an in-your-face to the Tea Party movement.

The sticker is stroking the OFA base. On that level, that kind of snark certainly works. But if they were actually intending to communicate with Tea Partiers to convince them that Obamacare is in their best interests, it is an obvious and miserable failure.

I think the sticker is telegraphing that OFA believes Obamacare is failing. This is probably not what they wanted to tell people. But the people who put together ACA weren't as smart politically as they thought they were. This is more evidence of the same.

MeatPopscicle1234 said...

I someone should do play on their imagery, but replace the "snake" stethoscope with a red looping downward arrow and a grave at the bottom with some pithy quote about death panels...

@eric: 'On the other hand, I know quite a few people who are suffering greatly under Obamacare. I don't need to read the online stories, because it's happening to friends of mine.'

Just another anecdote. Our premiums went up from about $350 to almost $600 dollars, and our deductible doubled from about $6000 to $12500 (PER PERSON).

It isn't a rattler, it isn't a stethoscope, it is a stethoscope twisted into the shape of an IUD.

And "Don't tread on my reproductive rights" is the real message of this image.

The federal government is a $4 trillion operation, collects nearly $3 trillion in taxes, and borrows over $1 trillion from tomorrow, each year, every year, since Obama took office. Yet, they still cannot provide universal medical insurance, let alone affordable insurance, which does not increase the total cost of purchasing health care.
