I suggest that we set up "Shoot Up Parlors" with all getting all the "H" they want if, and only if,the following conditions are met: The addict must"shoot up" on-site and immediately upon being provided the drug; And, a random and unidentifiable one-in-a-thousand doses is lethal.

Being a great actor is pretty much the same as being a great whore or incredibly smooth con man, except in being legal. Pretty much the same skill set.

Big Jim Represents the American Touched By Culture But Not Swallowed By It.
I voted for the last item (the I don't give a shit one), because I don't really care whether Broadway Theaters dim their lights or not.
But I do care about the loss of P.S. Hoffman. He was an excellent actor, judging by the movies in which I saw him, and I am saddened by the loss of 10 or 20 or 30 more years of movies that he might have made.
I also care because addiction, whether to drugs or alcohol or whatever is a terrible thing. I've known several recovering alcoholics well enough to understand their struggles and the courage and commitment it takes to achieve a state of recovering and then maintain it every day. And I've known alcoholics who were never able to achieve the state of recovering. Hoffman, they say, was clean and sober for a long time, but the day came when he couldn't maintain that. It's very sad.
I'm not indifferent to the tragedy of an addict's death. I'm utterly indifferent to the idea that Hoffman's death is more significant or newsworthy than any other addict's death.
I didn't know the man, never saw any of his movies. He wasted a gift that he was given for a moments pleasure, because he was weak, and I feel sorry for his family because he was selfish.
I think it was especially nice that it was Broadway, rather than Hollyeood, since he was one of their own, an actor's actor who lived and died in their city.
I'm more sympathetic to someone addicted to pain meds from surgery and... chronic pain.
Whats this guy's excuse? Recreational use with 2 kids at home?
Also, still don't know who he is or what he did. Don't really care either. I find it obnoxious that he gets special treatment b/c he's some kind of culture elite. Lots of sad stories out there of people dying from drugs. Why is his more special than theirs?
To those that say he threw his life away.............
Who accomplished more?
Phillip Seymour Hoffman
Or
Phil Robertson
Robertson had 4 kids, tons of grandchildren, and a successful company his family owns and runs. He has also counselled addicts to try and help them through their issues.
Is that really a debatable point as to who did more with their lives?
I stand with Lavar Burton on this one. (before he apologized and sat down...)
Burton tweeted Feb. 2: "Damn, #PSH was SO talented! However, if Y'all should find me dead with a needle in my arm, in my underwear . . . please put my pants on!"
When one of the Reading Rainbow alum's Twitter followers wrote back "not cool, dude," Burton, 56, replied: "Not cool is shooting up when you got kids . . . #areyoukiddingme."
Somehow, I don't think a black actor self-induced dead with a needle in his arm, w/Hoffman's fine resume and three young kids left behind, would be getting the same adulatory attention.
Philip Seymour Hoffman was celebrated for the remarkable talent he brought to his film and stage roles. Few knew of his heroin addiction or were privy to the rapid downward spiral during the past year.
I think a lot of the reaction is the shock of it all-- a seemingly successful actor in his prime with a young family (three beautiful children and supportive partner) suddenly is found dead with a needle in his arm. We did never imagined PS Hoffman as a heroin addict until last week.
When those global warming idiots wanted to ring the church bells one time for each of the 400 parts of CO2 in the atmosphere, I suggested that we hold guns on them and make them next do the denominator--one million.

Staggering, vaulting, truly epic, indifference.

Philip Seymour Hoffman. (dead)
C. Thomas Howell. (alive)
Michael J. Fox. (alive)
Philip S. Hoffman. (?)

But there seems to be few commenters that need mercy. Carry on.
Hoffman did no one any harm. Addiction is a monster. Ask Rush Limbaugh.

Big Jim Does Not Know How to Spell "DeCapreo".
PSH had a nack for bringing characters to life that made it hard to believe that any other actor could have done as well.
He didn't cure cancer, but it's something to be respected.
Despite his personal faults, he deserved a nod, particularly from his peers.
I don't begrudge that.
It may also bring some solace to his children as they grow older and become fully aware of the horrible way he died.

It's a great loss **and** he made the worst choice of all. Both, at the same time. How many stupid out there are they?

God, you're shallow and stupid.
And if you're not, then I can only hope that your point in stating that was to satirize volumes of crap commentary spread for so many years.

They should have just flashed the lights seventy times. Once for every bag of heroin in his home.

Man. what the hell.
It's as if people think there's only one way to live life.
What a shame, that is.
Jesus, damikesc, is it your argument that one Phil is worth more than another?
I do believe that Phil Robertson not just cares about his own kids, but also the kids of others.
I don't want to believe that he'd approve of the likes of that which damikesc do.
damikesc, you are one opportunistic SOB. Are you sure that those whom you use actually share your so-called values? I wonder.
