2 conversations I listened to today (with great pleasure).

1. The Sartorialist, Steve Schuman, talking about photographing fashion on the streets and his devotion — even as many other offers come his way — to blogging and to sincere self-expression.

2. Lena Dunham talks to Bill Simmons about "Girls" (establishing her distance from her character Hannah) and about the pop music and TV and movies that have influenced her.

She should say "like" more often.

She's kind of an idiot but she's a likable idiot. I love how she says Lilith Fair was the "hottest place to be." And then she says she was 11 and her mom took her.

Apparently armpit hair is the epitome of cool. Always knew I was cool! My armpit hair and I rock.

I also got a kick out of how the "Bird and Magic" comment confused her. Indigo Girls were the Bird and Magic of girl folk rock. And she's like, "I don't get it." And then she's like, "Oh. Bird and Magic. I know what that means!"

It's charming because she is so honest and upfront about her passions. And yet her passions are not my passions. Clothes, women folk singers of the 90's, bad movie posters, celebrity couples.

Lady Gaga is writing a new song, just for her.

It's called Butterface.

Lena Dunham, a one person War on Women

She's great. A good comparison might be the young Woody Allen.

I don't have the ambition to sit through 38 minutes of Steve Schuman, but someone will have to take over for Bill Cunningham at some point.

He should learn from him. On many levels.

I made it 1 minute and 26 seconds in the Dunham vid. Life is too short to watch Lena Dunham, who looks like she has serious hygiene issues. Her hands look dirty every time I see pictures of her. And the guy is all uptalking and stuff.

I'm gonna sort the laundry.

Scott Schuman is from Indianapolis. He is a nice guy with a creative flair that makes me proud to be a straight guy.

Shit!!
You've got time to squander an hour on Lena Dunham?

Of course, I have time to write way too many comments here. So, what's my point....

one part valley girl, one part college graduate with a deficient education, and one part self-absorbed ding bat unable to carry on a serious conversation.

I listen to physics lectures, random Derbyshire podcasts or random Mark Steyn hostings of Rush.

All are squirreled away on my HD in real audio 8kbs form, taking not much space for many years of stuff.

I watch practically nothing. It's all listen.

At the moment stars are making heavy elements.

Mascara is one of the heavy elements.

Cosmotology.

I listened to a good sample of the Dunham interview. It was an interesting view of people with no seeming connection to the world at large.

It made me wonder about the demographics of their viewers and what would make this kind of conversation of interest to them.

Sorta makes me feel as if I grew up on a different planet.

Dunham represents the self-esteem generation--those kids whose self-esteem was pumped up beyond reason. Never have so many had such great self-esteem for such little reason.
