At the Brown Dog Café...
… yes, there's a place for you.
(If you're enjoying this blog, please consider going in to do your shopping through the Althouse Amazon Portal.)
ADDED: These pictures are the view from my position at my desk. I had those eyes looking up at me and got out the camera. The second picture is the dog's response when he saw he had my attention.

Chocolate labs are second only to basset hounds in my estimation. I had a chocolate lab named "Cookie" that I gave to my ex-wife when her dog died. Cookie could catch 100 frisbies in a row.
Them there eyes
A Chocolate Lab and a Black Lab. That looks a lot like my house.
My house is your house.
Isn't this fair use:

George Zimmerman is making a political statement with his painting. Why wouldn't it be?
Love your Dog Cafe interludes. Pets reset priorities. Pets are not petty.

Labs are bred to fetch stuff.
Huskies?
Not so much.
He is saying "Lets go for a ride and then go chase tennis balls"
re: Huskies, but they talk.
Nooooo
Poignant story.....
Mystery as old black and white photo of a soldier is found in collar of a stray dog wandering the streets of South Carolina
He has been named Soldier. Please let him find a home.
Thanks for the pics. My 17-year-old chocolate lab passed yesterday and we miss him terribly.

Dogs try to ruin photographs.
One cue to move is loss of eye contact. Try shooting without losing eye contact with the dog.
You misaim some but get others you would not have gotten.
"Isn't this fair use."
Compare it to the lawsuit over the photo that was used in the famous Obama "Hope" poster. Shepherd Fairey argued "fair use," but AP said otherwise, and the case was settled, with Fairey sharing the profits over the poster and agreeing to get a license before using any other AP photos.
"He is saying "Lets go for a ride and then go chase tennis balls""
He was just recently back from a dog park outing, with tennis balls and a wind chill of 5 below.
Done by Meade. I stayed in all day.

Nooooo
Not mine.
She barks, but only if it's food time or if she wants out. And when she wants back in again. She has never howled or just bark at passers by or other dogs.
If we ignore she'll start barking very softly and whining.
It's her imitation of "people" talk.
Sorry to hear it, Douglas.
Friends are hard to come by in the best of times. Especially the ones that never judge us and always forgive our faults.
My condolences.
Douglas, they leave a permanent hole in ones heart, but may your sadness be ameliorated with the memory of a wonderful seventeen years of memories.
I add my condolences, Douglas, and I think of rhhardin's advice which is, in effect, to find a new dog or puppy asap. Plenty of dogs are out there in need of human friends.

Epitaph to a Dog
Lord Byron
Near this Spot
are deposited the Remains of one
who possessed Beauty without Vanity,
Strength without Insolence,
Courage without Ferosity,
and all the virtues of Man without his Vices.
This praise, which would be unmeaning Flattery
if inscribed over human Ashes,
is but a just tribute to the Memory of
BOATSWAIN, a DOG,
who was born in Newfoundland May 1803
and died at Newstead Nov. 18, 1808.

Awesome web article dude
Thanks for all the condolences. Not sure if I can get another dog right away, living half the year in China makes the logistics difficult. What did the Sea Witch say, life is full of hard choices, idn't it?
+1 condolences, Douglas. That's one long time companion to lose. I agree get right back up on the horse, or, dog. As for where to find one, don't they have restaurants where you are? :-)
