"A&E now has, if not an obligation, a golden opportunity."

"The network should return Robertson and Duck Dynasty to the air, but not in the adulterated, cartoon version that has conservatives so besotted.... No, Duck Dynasty should get real," writes Richard Kim in The Nation.

It should show Robertson being as homophobic as he pleases, in his home, his church, his community. The show’s editors have previously been criticized for asking Robertson to not say “Jesus” at the end of his prayers; they should now let him get his Jesus freak on, whether in words that invoke hellfire and damnation or those that profess to love the sinner but hate the sin....

As for gay activists, they should revisit their reflexive strategy of playing whack-a-mole every time some reality-TV star or pasta executive or former cast member of  30 Rock says something homophobic....

Of course, driving offensive utterances underground can feel like a victory. But consider this: it is no longer acceptable to use the N-word in public, but that doesn’t mean a whole lot of folks don’t think it, or think media-savvy versions of it....

Oh good grief. Will the gay activists never stop whining.

Well, yes, I think we ought to let people say things that we find offensive, rather than try to get them fired. But if Kim thinks that letting the Duck guy talk anti-gay talk will persuade vast numbers of people to become pro-gay, well, God bless him.

I so agree, let him keep talking. It did wonders when the anti women Congresscritters talked a blue streak beore the 2012 election. It's a PSA so to speak, it puts it all out there for Americans to accept or reject.

So, saying "I prefer pussy to anus" is homophobic? If people want to have anal, foot or whatever sex that's fine, but let's not pretend that penises and vaginas are meant for each other.

Oso Negro said...

I think we need a new vocabulary word. Let's define "queerbrain" to mean a person who can understand no gradations of sentiment regarding homosexuality between homophobe and PC-normal. So take the queerbrained quiz! How many of the following are homophobes?

a) Afghani mullahs who execute homosexuals by crushing under piles of rocks

b) A Tanzanian judge sentencing a homosexual to life imprisonment for homosexuality

c) Vladimir Putin, proscribing pro-gay propaganda

d) A pack of Mexicans boys in South Texas yelling "joto boy" at a classmate

e) A Lousiana duck hunter who thinks that a woman's vagina has more to offer than a man's anus and says so

f) A person who doesn't worry much about other people's sexuality, but prefers not to mainstream gay behavior

If you say "all of the above", you may be a queerbrain!

He's saying more speech and it's a marketplace of ideas. More freedom, and let people see what others really think, and we'll all be better off.

But, sure, those who say "more speech" usually are those who think their speech will win in the free market competition. Why wouldn't everyone who believes their opinion is right think it would attract the most buyers?

But many who like free speech like freedom itself.

Good point Richard. But here's an equally good point: How about a reality tv show featuring Richard Kim and his friends, but not in an adulrated, cartoon version that has liberals so besotted. No, the new Kim Nation show should get down and get real.

As I understand it, the reality is that A&E manufacturers bleeps into the show to cover up the fact that the family doesn't take the Lord's name in vain...

I am all for more "real" stuff from the duck people. The activists will not believe a word of it unless they behave like they are supposed to behave: gay bashing redneck southern bible thumper hypocritical bumpkins who are hating haters. Everything else is an act, of course.

More free speech seems to have put A&E back on its heels and made the activists very grumpy bad sports and sold a lot of duck product

wildswan said...

And we commenters could all be in the LibrlFucks because we commented directly on events as they happened. Inga and Garage could star. Or anyhow their words. As they battle conservative attempts to balance the budget.
The Capitol takeover, the drum circles, legislators running to Hooters in Illinois, amusing episodes where Walker's family parties are crashed, foul language about religion, the pathetic episode where the Capital is emptied and the CNN bus pulls away from the sobbing LF - it's all there, the gamut of liberal emotion. As I think I realize that LibrlFcks of Dane County could be a hit. Anyhow, it has been a hit with me over the last five years.

Double secret grand juries, pending indictments of a sitting govenor, commenters believing with all their hearts that we have been attacked because of a film about the prophet, deep believers in mythical cheap and comprehensive health insurance purchased easily online. It's all there. Or here. Plus racist. Plus bigot.

Great idea. I want 10%.

Mr. Kim is saying let the Duck Dynasty guys speak out. More free speech and let people hear what everyone has to say. Also that people should (my term) STFU if they don't like everything they hear.

However, Mr. Kim has a fantasy idea and preconceived idea of what they actually say.

Here is some reality for the gay mafia. Most people don't think about you. Most people don't talk about you. In the big scheme of things in our lives you gays are really not that important. Until you get screeching and wailing in our faces, that is. We really don't care that much about the whole thing. Most of us are thinking about how to put food on the table, pay the rent, buy clothes and NOW of course how to get that insurance we are forced to buy.

He seems to think that the Robertson's sit around spouting Jesus freak speech all day. Saying Grace over dinner or thanking God for some occurrence is not getting a Jesus Freak on.

Mr. Robertson was merely answering a direct question on what he considers sinful. He also used some words that are being labled crude....HOWEVER, those are the terms that 2nd and 3rd graders are being taught, in our public schools, in their indoctrination into sex. Anus. Penis. Vagina. Ok.....he might have used some slang like pussy. But seriously. If little kids can learn about 'fisting' in school and how to put condoms on....using the term pussy should hardly give anyone the fantoid vapors.

The gays need to get off of their high horses and stop having hysterical fainting fits when they come up to the fact that ....yes.....some people can be ugly and...yes....some people consider their actions sinful, perverted and icky.

Get the fuck over it you pussies.

Homophobia is a projected fear or anxiety.

If people are confused, then Duck Dynasty should be replaced with Dodo Dynasty. We'll just record it as yet another extracurricular expense in the world's most expensive education system.

I still think this agenda serves as a front for dysfunctional heterosexuals, especially abortionists and pro-choicers in order to distract from their activities.

In any case, division by minority is the Democrat's lucre. The recent accelerated pace suggests that either democratic leverage is slipping or they are planning a coup. The breathless reporting of JournoLists supports the former.

+1

How many people are actually "phobic" about homosexuals?

pho·bi·a (fb-)
n.
1. A persistent, abnormal, and irrational fear of a specific thing or situation that compels one to avoid it, despite the awareness and reassurance that it is not dangerous.

Who really has an "irrational fear" of homosexuality? Almost no one. Homosexuals are not fearsome. The emotions I have about homosexual behavior are more along the lines of sadness, pathos, and repulsion. Fear is certainly not part of it.

But the queer activists have to paint normal people's feelings of repulsion about their sexual perversion as fear, because that allows them to ridicule normal people.

Funny how no one labels people who find necrophilia repulsive "necrophobics", or people who find bestiality repulsive "zoophobics".

i know it's asking a lot at this point but can we put this into a wee bit of perspective? it's not as though there was an en masse uprising of all gay folks in response to the "reality" show star's comments. two gay groups issued a press release...that's it. if there has been any 'hysteria' it has come from those who leapt to robertson's defense (before even knowing exactly what he said).
if robertson had simply stated that he believes that being gay is a 'sin', i don't think it would have raised much of an eyebrow since gay folks hear that stuff all the time but, when he veered into scatological descriptions and suggested that gay sexuality is the root of all evil, it should be no suprise to anyone that he got called out on his statements. it's nonsense to think that gay people should just shut up and take it because of some people's concept of religion. a couple of groups said, "hey! that's pretty insulting." and what they got in return is some of the most vile, hateful comments i've ever read...scary stuff...and all in the name of jesus/the bible !

That's pretty funny.

I have a feeling that the Robertsons, especially Phil, don't censor themselves to begin with.

But this poor fellow is just sure if you remove the gag from Phil Robertson, all sorts of hate will pour out.

But what if the gag has always been removed?

Oh my.

Much of what makes DD so successful is the production and editing, provided by A@E.

The author suggests alteration in hopes of "exposing" the "clan".

It will be interesting to see if the production and editing tone changes for 2015 season (2014 is already filmed).

I'm thinking that more people speaking thier minds is good. And let the consequences be what they are. I notice lots of people here like the idea of consequences: if somebody is promiscuous - they should expect consequences. I'm just saying let the consequences flow for whatever choices we make. My hope is that more and more people will take responsiblity for their choices - freedom with responsibility...more and more people taking care in *how* they say what they say...coming from their adult rather than their adolescent.

And so yes, in terms of Robertson and me and everyone - let's celebrate free speech and taking responsibility for what we say. Amen.

This sort of thing indicates that the tactic of attempting to destroy those with whom they disagree is not going to be set aside. Save your prayers for the next target - he or she might not have 10-11 million viewers for support.

There is no victory here. It isn't even a draw, since the gay activists have not agreed that free speech is an inviolable right.

All this is besides the point. What really pissed off gay activists was Robertson's contention that a female vagina was a more aesthetically pleasing object of desire than another man's anus.

I circle back here to find that ARM is making the usual leftist/LGBT disgusting debating technique when reason, logic and the facts fail by suggesting that underneath all normal heterosexual males is a homosexual waiting to get out--thereby trying to score a "twofer" by slyly implying that homosexuality is "normal" (i.e. use of acronym "NTTIAWWT") and much more wide-spread in the human population than the 1,7% it actually is on the one hand, while simultaneously using the "hidden homosexuality" tag to slime one's political/cultural opponent on the other

This is just a liberal journalist making the same mistake that the liberal executives at A&E made when they first put Duck Dynasty on the air.

The execs were expecting to make a show where people could have a good laugh at expense of the silly redneck hillbillies.

Now, Richard Kim seems to believe that the only reason people aren't laughing at the Robertsons is the careful editing by A&E?

Sure, it's possible they could reedit everything to make the Robertsons look bad -- but that would just lose them the viewership of their most successful show.

Exactly. Which is why I keep asking why that isn't an example of bigotry. Has tha bandwagon simply not come around yet for these aggrieved groups? Shouldn't the lberals at the very least have evolving opinions on such stuff?

Who get to determine who can be called a bigot for having a negative opinion about behavior of minorities.

The lbearls that's who. If tomorrow libs started coming out defending necrophilia, why then, you would be a bigot to not have love in your heart for necrophiliacs. Simply because liberals find it to be something that you should be benign about.
If Robertson talked about necrophilia in a negative light and liberals are on board that necros should be protected, why then Robertson can't legislate his christian morality on others and who's to say what is moral?

jr565 said...

The horrible thing is that A&E has had a problem with the show showing the family praying. It made them unconfortorable and they kept trying to get it reigned in.
How out of touch then is A&E with easily half of the country. Who probably watch Duck Dynasty because they are a family that seems to share their values. And praying as a family is one of them.
