Perhaps Castro found prison life uncomfortable and unwelcoming. Either way, he did the taxpayers a favor. First, he avoided a long trial by accepting the plea bargain. Then, he killed himself, saving the costs of keeping him in jail for decades. Had he not accepted the plea bargain and received a death sentence, it would've cost even more. So, killing himself might be the sole redeeming thing he has done in years. I doubt anyone will shed any tears for him.
I'm reminded of a passage from Robert Heinlein's "Starship Troopers". There was a situation where a trainee went AWOL, then molested and killed a little girl.
To paraphrase: "If he was sick, and could be cured, then realized what he had done, how could he live with himself? Wouldn't he HAVE to commit suicide? And if he couldn't be made well, we have the moral responsibility to kill him, we shoot rabid dogs, don't we?"
I do find it odd that man on suicide watch could find the means to hang himself, but I am not going to fire any neurons trying to figure out that little mystery.

I think the interests of justice vary with the offender. I believe certain folks like Ariel Castro, the two black thugs that killed the Australian baseball player ought to have a rope tossed to them, noose already made. Its no different than euthanizing dangerous animals.
But I want traitors like Aldrich Ames, Jonathan Pollard, Bradley Manning, James Hanssen, and Nidal Hasan to not get the easy escape of hanging themselves.

He spent only a few months in a cage. Those girls spent more than ten years in the hell he created for them.
Sure? You want some Arizona ocean front property?
Hard to believe that Castro hung himself. I suspect he had an accomplice.
I'm glad he won't be hanging around this earthly realm anymore, and now can face his just rewards.

So he hung himself?
I see no downside to that.
May he RIH.
He obviously was a genius at deceiving and manipulating people.
Well done.

I love a happy ending!
Now he will not cost the tax payers any more money, and he will find out about REAL justice.
