Fox News exhibits their ignorance of technical matters. They have been reporting that the shooter has used an AR-15, and then went on to say that it fired three-round bursts. If this is true, the weapon is an M-16, a military issue automatic rifle. This is an important clue to the identity of the shooter. My paranoid self says this is a knee-jerk slam against civilian semi-auto rifles such as the AR-15.
Just remember, probably 90% of what we hear today from the talking heads will turn out to be wrong. The facts that they know are few but that won't prevent them from speculating for hours.
Criminals prefer low-risk, high-reward targets. What better place to conduct their business in peace than a military installation, where employees are restricted from keeping and bearing Arms.
Still, it has to be explained how they managed to evade scrutiny by the gatekeepers. Aren't visitors to a military installation subject to TSA-like searches?
The president wasted no time getting back on the crusade he failed at earlier this year. Let no crises go to waste, regardless of the mostly unknown facts.

My son works there. He's safe in building across the street.
Doubtful since it is against the law to have a gun in DC.
I'm proud of the Internet. It has been hours, and no one has irresponsibly blamed anyone else yet.
Conclusions: Do not jump to them.
No one knows anything but NBC seems to think this is relevant:
"The military officials said that the gunman may have been armed with an AR-15, a military-style assault rifle."
The shooter "may also" have been armed with a bazooka.
Ridiculous non-fact shoe horned in.
Don't look at me, I didn't say anything.
Phil, glad to hear about your son. I hope you heard he was safe before you heard about the shooting.

Fox News is confirming two gunmen, which suggests a terror attack rather than a disgruntled employee.
Now they're qualifying their "confirmation". Chaos.
Military installations are not safe places
I'm taking 2-1 odds for the shooter to be a registered Democrat.
Does not D.C. register all guns?
Is there not a full background check, fees, and alot of hassle to even own a gun?
Is not carrying a gun illegal there?
Isn't it true if you are caught with a bullet or even empty cartridge case they will arrest you?
So how can this happen? Especially on a NAVAL SHIPPING YARD!

"Russian official mocks Navy Yard shooting."
The media's a little slow off the mark this morning. I'm sure this is all the NRA's fault.
Hey ! With all of that gun control stuff in DC, this is impossible. Must be a hoax.

Ah, those layers and layers of fact-checkers at the MSM are up to it again: CBS and NBC release the wrong name for the shooter.
Instead of rushing to be the first to report a story, why don't they try to be the first to get the story right?

No, heard about shooting first but within 1/2 heard he was OK. He was in lock down for 12 hours. They gave everyone the day off tomorrow.
