At the Underwater Egyptian Café...

Sister, lemme tell you about a vision I saw/You were drawing water for your husband, you were suffering under the law...

I assume that after all these years she finally gave that Dylan album a listen.

Actually I was only searching for "Egypt" at bobdylan.com, but I do plan to learn that album at a level where I can refer to it like I refer to the Dylan albums I do have inscribed in my head.

There was an island of Antiquity,
Well-favored with an equitorial sky,
Where Babylonic galleys used to lie,
And inland music sounded cumbrously.

Though long accustomed to such clemency,
It felt obscure disturbances, whereby
Emitting a huge geologic sigh
It lurched, and gently sank beneath the sea.

In marbles now, in pale aquatic hues,
Stand aimless, posturing on heavy floors
Where parchments waver, limp and yellowish,
And houses front on darkened avenues
Bearded with sea-growth, promenades for fish
With mournful faces peering through the doors.

Kenneth Burke's account of submitting this poem to an embarrased editor. (Poem itself is google-omitted on preceding page)

It needs music.

Either "Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea" or "Jaws".

I mentioned earlier that only 47% of adults have a full time job.

Now, Insta reminds us of the Romster's prescient 47% remark.

Just as Choom vindicated him as far as foreign policy, now it looks like the economy is next.

We just bought a kayak! I'm really looking forward to trying it out. It's a sit-on-top.

kentuckyliz said...

I don't like to be locked into a closed top regular kayak. Can't move around enough and get stiff. Sit on tops are better in that regard. Except for whitewater of course. Easier to roll than get back on a sit on top in whitewater.

I do so want to try SUP...not on whitewater though LOL

I am surprised that there is no alarm and no analysis about how Obamacare is driving out the full time workforce. Going back to my earlier comment on another thread, I think Obama is wishing Obamacare disappears and he will push its full implementation (or not) to the next administration. There was a comment on another blog I had linked here (and then took it out but Lem linked it again) -- that comment was right on the money. Obama will not act on implementing Obamacare because he wants no responsibility for its failures and he was too incompetent to make sure it was a success. I am just appalled that there is no concern about all this. I guess these are things too big to understand for the low information voters (aka Obama supporters).

The incompetency must be shared by Pelosi, Reid and all of Congress which, against the public will, forced it through and without the bother of it being read in full.

If Choom had another son, it would look like ObamaTax.

This is his, no matter how hard he tries to run from it.

So my wife sends me to Home Depot because her tomato plants have outgrown their stakes.

I'm in the garden center and I grab a bunch of those 6-foot-long skinny green stakes, the kind that are hollow metal tubes, coated in hard plastic, with the pointy ends.

One of the Home Depot guys was the friendly sort. I go up to him and I ask if he can answer a question. I aim the pointy ends at his face and I ask, "Do you think these will work? It's a birthday party and I've got a bunch of little kids who want to pretend they're knights on horseback."

I got the reaction of total shock I was looking for.

Turns out he works at Home Depot only on the weekends because he's a full-time social worker who evaluates households to see if the kids are at risk and should be removed.

@edutcher, I'm starting to wonder whether Obama wouldn't have been better off as far as his legacy is concerned if he had deliberately lost the last election. Right now he could be standing on the sidelines criticizing Romney's handling of Egypt and Syria instead of dealing with the consequences of his own ineptitude. And Benghazi would have happened on Romney's watch (in which case it might not have happened at all, and Libya could have been touted as an Obama success).

Likewise the dog's breakfast known as Obamacare. Why didn't Obama push Sebelius harder to work out the implementation details of the Affordable Care Act? Did she try super hard and fail because the legislation is so thoroughly flawed? Or did Sebelius sit on her hands until she looked up, saw the date, and said "Oh dear!"?

Just like Benghazi*, the other scandal that refuses to die, Fast & Furious, rises to haunt the Choom Gang once again:

Police chief in Jalisco murdered with F&F rifle.

*All the dancing State has done to cover Lurch's yachting while Egypt burns (looks like the Brothers are getting nasty) has reminded many of how they covered for the last Secretary's ineptitude on a certain evening.

He tried hard enough. Remember how a lot of people were saying Choom was acting like he didn't want to win?

Makes you wonder, don't it?

Right now he could be standing on the sidelines criticizing Romney's handling of Egypt and Syria instead of dealing with the consequences of his own ineptitude. And Benghazi would have happened on Romney's watch (in which case it might not have happened at all, and Libya could have been touted as an Obama success).

Benghazi was on Choom's watch, but it would have left the Romster to deal with the fallout (buh-bye Hillary! '16 or even Hope Again).

Funny how things work out.

And the Romster just smiles.

Big Mike,

Obama's "legacy" will be total shit, the legacy of a man who has continued and expanded on the crimes of our empire, carrying out war, murder, and oppression dutifully and remorselessly.

This legacy would not have been any less wretched had he failed to win a second term: it was already written in blood in his first term.

Obama joins his brother (and predecessor) presidents in the annals of great criminals of history.

Given the historic moment and circumstances of his election to the office, and the great hopes of the nation that he would bring a new broom and sweep away the horror and inequity of what preceded him--hopes he has thoroughly betrayed, (and continues to do so)--Obama may well be remembered with greater contempt than those criminal careers he follows with his own.

I want to know when The Bangles' "Walk Like An Egyptian" turned into Kansas' "Carry On Wayward Son," the one song that you knew that you would hear on any classic rock station if you listened for more than half an hour. In the case of "Walk Like An Egyptian," it doesn't matter what day of the week or what time of day I get in the car, if I turn on the radio, I will almost always hear that song. It happened at least three times in the last week alone, and those were not lengthy drives.

It's a damn good thing I like The Bangles.

What , no talk about the story from Brazil about the soccer ref who stabbed a player to death on the field, and in turn he was stoned to death by the fans, decapitated, QUARTERED(!), and had his head posted on a stake in the middle of the field? Anyone?

Seriously, how fun are the Olympics going to be in 2016?
