Update on "Egypt appoints member of terror group that once massacred tourists to run tourism region."

We were talking about that headline 2 days ago.

Now: "The new governor of Egypt's Luxor province has resigned amid controversy over his links to an Islamist group that carried out a deadly attack on tourists there in 1997."
Adel Khayat's appointment infuriated many Egyptians and prompted the tourism minister to submit his resignation.

Islamist President Mohammed Morsi had defended Mr Khayat's appointment....

Mr Khayat, a member of the Construction and Development party, had denied any role in Gamaa Islamiya's militant past and pledged to protect tourists. He told a news conference on Sunday: "We will not accept that one drop of blood be spilt because of a position that I did not personally aspire to at any time."

I guess they would know all about that blood-spilling business.

The Muslim Brotherhood has been laughably incapable of governing so far, and we've been sending all kinds of weaponry to maintain the old Army controlled deep state, which was fighting with the Brotherhood for control. We have a lot of reasons for a stable Egypt, but that Egypt is probably not forthcoming.

Egypt is in a spiral downwards, unable to respond to all the hunger, poverty, former oppression and basic needs of the people that Mubarrak kept a lid on. It's like Greece but so much worse, or it's like a remarkably stable Arab/Muslim country with a ridiculously corrupt and inefficient bureaucracy.

They never had a large middle class, or a non-foreign connected group of wealthier, educated people capable of forming a representative government of some kind with the support of a plurality of Egyptians.

It's not going to get much better I'm afraid.

Sadly, Obama still seems to be acting as if the Cairo speech is going to work out, and trying to be seen as if it's going to by his base and the American people.

This could get ugly.

What does that mean? Send this man to Washington. He would fit right in.

I think I predicted this.

Of course, Choom's pals, the Tahleebahn, murdered 10 people in Pockeestahn, so it's a clean sweep.

It's a good thing we made Mubarek step down.
The tourism industry must be thriving.

My next check on travelocity - flights to Egypt. I always wante dto go there. Now seems like a good time. Right?

Either this is an extremely clever way for the Obama admin to expose the Muslim brotherhood as a disgusting murderous group of Islamists, or It is the obviously predictable outcome of a terrible decision made by our first affirmative action president.

What?

I had no desire to comment on this post, but in the interest of contributing an idea for a new tag - wtf did he just say? comes readily to mind.

I understand that the Obama will be visiting Africa in a trip that will cost 100 million dollars.

Do we know if he is going to Egypt?

To visit his buds in the mioslem Brotherhood?

We can hope.

If the MB had a chance to take out Obama what would they do?

Lots of publicity for taking out a sitting president? Or letting him retain his position where he is doing more damage to our country than they could themselves?

These guys have their own rules.

This is the crowd that gave us Ayman Al-Zawahiri.

They're nuts, but they're not stupid.

Knowing them, however, they just might be tempted. It would be the coup of all time.

They are not going to take out their brother.

He put them in there. He is working to put them into Syria.

Get real. They are not going to bite the hand that feeds them.

I just think it would be nice for Obama to visit some people who really appreciate him. That's all.

It's a matter of marketing. Decapitation is generally painless. There's a bit of a sting at first, but after the spinal nerves are severed, it's generally painless. And nothing makes the Islamic experience more authentic than a decapitation. Not everyone has to be decapitated. Just a few of the older tourists who can no longer run, and some women who insist on wearing shorts. OK, it's a little more dangerous than bungee jumping, but the risks are within acceptable limits. It's a true adventure vacation. What better place to feel the pangs of mortality than in the shadows of the great pyramids. Thrills, chills and a sense of history. The adventure awaits you.

The so-called "Arab Spring" was a revival of left-wing (i.e. Caliphate or imperial) Islam. Perhaps that's why Obama is supportive of this change.

Horses. Barn door.

I'm glad the moderate islamics are in charge. I wouldn't want the radicals in control.

You can safely drop the 'perhaps' out.

It's worse than that. It was a power grab for the Muslim Brotherhood, then next ascendant Nazi Party. The brotherhood colluded with the Nazi's very early on and this has been their extension of it.
