Get outta bed, Mom, and make me breakfast. Be useful for once, dammit!

We do celebrate secular holidays here. Happy Mother's Day. Some players can't use pink bats today in the ML games because of attorneys. Says it all!

ricpic, A good Jewish boy would NEVER say that!

You're a good alma mater.

True. But he'd THINK it.

A pretty skimpy, droopy, dry and patchy Mom's Day pic.

OMG.. thank you so much. Now I can write my mother's day comment here. My mom was 36 when she had me (rare in those days) and when I went through the same year of my life, it was very special. She never finished high school but was a voracious reader and a teacher too -- she taught her granddaughter (whom she babysat because the mother of the child worked) English alphabet like when the child was 4! She wanted my sister and me to go all the way, solid education and have our own careers. She stood right by my dad in that vision for her daughters.

Ignore all holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, and save a fortune on flowers and cards.

It's been a rough Spring.

There were a lot of people like that. Funny how they were a lot smarter than kids with all the government education.

Happy Mother's Day, moms!

Thanks to my mom for teaching me that the most important thing one can acquire is an education. And for teaching me to knit.

Mama Irene set a good example.

At our house, Mother's Day is rescheduled for six weeks from now.

The store, however, had frozen appetizers, so I am eating mini quiches in celebration.

My mother liked her present. All is well.

Nice attempt to hijack Politico but this thread is still about thanking our mothers. Thanks to all including my 104 year old GM who has taught me more about endurance than a herd of triathletes.

AP's mother disowned him.

@Althouse, you and Meade do a nice job with your fritillaria. I planted some back in the day but nothing came up.

@ndspinelli, how many Jewish mothers does it take to change a light bulb?

Never mind, dear, I'll just sit in this dark corner and suffer.

"My criticism of Roe is that it seemed to have stopped the momentum that was on the side of change." -Fucking SCOTUS "Justice"

America deserves a violent death and few mentions in history books if any ever be written.

This powerful evil personified by Ginsburg has determined Gosnell was too limited by government regulation and oversight.

I believe therefore we all should die, because we allow this to prosper. No American is innocent, and our crimes against humanity are so vast no living soul on the vast planet is not tainted by our killing efficiency in the "womb."

Government Husband wishes a Happy Mother's Day to all the Mothers out there. And -- for those that don't wish to be Mothers -- Government Husband has Free Birth Control especially for You.

If I didn't feel precisely about Harry Reid as I feel about Ginsburg I would be ashamed for feeling so sexist.

Thanks Harry, you good-for-one-thing-like-an-asshole cunt.

Eggs Benedict this morning. Mom is dead but she liked Eggs Benedict and so does my wife. Thanks Mom. Thanks Wife.

I took some gingerbread with pale green icing to my very coherent and still frisky 90 year old next door neighbor, whose kids live nowhere nearby. My neighbor has lived in this same house since 1955. She tells a great story when given an opportunity and this was an opportunity. Many remembrances of bee stings.

My mother managed to die on my name-day (the feast day of the saint whose name I have), so I can never forget the date. Thanks, Ma!

There was a WWII mail censor who noticed mail to Germany saying that "Mother is deceased" sounded wrong. He changed it to "Mother is dead."

Mail came back: "Mother is dead or deceased?"

I have Mom's recipe for the birthday cake she'd make me, and I like to make that. Such scent memories!

If I could find the recipe for the ground beef and chinese vegetable thing she used to make -- I hated it -- I would burn it today! Mom would laugh at that.

Happy Mother's Day!!

Are people who write in psychopath raging against a lack or overabundance of mother love?

Such a question msy be appropriate to the Mother's Day Cafe.

You know what would be cool...

If you could call someone and direct the phone being called to vibrate instead of ring.

Not today of course... today you do want to reach the person on the other end... or at least I hope we do.

My mother was 39 when I was born and 42 when my sister was born. It was OK, though, because she lied about her age and my birth certificate gives her age as 29. They could do that in those days.

She lived in her own apartment until 6 months before her 100th birthday when she finally moved in with my sister. We had a great 100th birthday party for her and I didn't lose her until she was almost 103.

Always thoughtful, she died a month before 9/11/11 so we could all go to her funeral. She lived in three centuries and was bright and alert until the end. My older kids used to go back to Chicago to spend a week with her when they were teenagers. She would check into a hotel downtown so they could walk and shop.

She went back to work when I was in 8th grade because she wanted her own money and finally retired, involuntarily, at age 77. She had worked for the same company before she and my father were married in the 1930s, and they told her "Ruth, everyone who was here when you first worked here has died ! You have to be over 65 and we will get in trouble with our health insurance if you are." Until then, she had walked to work from the train in downtown Chicago in all weather. It was about a half mile from the train station to the office north of the Chicago River.

I still miss her.

The date was, of course, 9/11/01.

Yesterday we visited my mother in law, 92 but in the end stages of dementia so she really isn't very aware of anything. So that was sad. Today, visited my SIL's mother, 96 and suffering from Alzheimer's. Still understands who her daughter is but is in that middle confused stage.

Then we went to an arts festival at Chastain Park and drove through the really high cotton areas of Buckhead gasping at the huge estates in that area - beautiful and breathtaking but maybe a tad excessive.

pm317: I had an aunt who only made through the 3rd grade before her father made her leave school to take care of the younger children. This was of course many years ago as I am pretty old now myself. A real shame because she was extremely intelligent, read everything she could get her hands on - books, newspapers - was very knowledgeable about history and politics - probably more than I was after high school and college, simply because she had such a desire to learn.

pm317 said...

@Deb, she was in India and she grew up in the late 1930s.. life on a different planet, so to speak (comparing it to Michael K's mom, for instance). She had a safe and healthy family life -- her dad was a school teacher and she got married early but my dad took good care of her. Like you said, with the right opportunity who knows what she would have done. I can only imagine.
