In those days, I saw the Beach Boys live many times. They could actually sing and play.
That said, I'm fascinated that someone of at least average intelligence would find this funny. And, it's not just that it takes all kinds; that kind might be dangerous.
Those pants were tight.... reminded me of the Don Draper tread I cant find, where he was told to wear underwear because his junk was distracting the cast.
...and then there was this Gatsby sentence...
"It is invariably saddening to look through new eyes at things upon which you have expended your own powers of adjustment."
Except in this case it was not sad... at least not for me.
This particular video was always funny because Dennis Wilson (far left from viewer perspective) was way over enthusiastic in his clapping. At one point Mike Love looks at Dennis like he's crazy. I always figured Dennis was high on something during the filming of that particular video.

Humor?
As a HUGE Beach Boys fan, I find this totally inane, ridiculous, and distasteful.
Hey, they're making a joke out of marriage - why not the Beach Boys?
The "shreds" guy was on Kimmel with Slash awhile back, but I don't think Slash really got the joke.
My favourite "shreds" video is the Clapton one.
It's funny, plus there's about 6,000 comments from indignant guitar nerds.
I was skeptical of the humor, myself. Eh, another shred video.
I lost it at the clapping.
10/10 would laugh again.
I love the Beach Boys, but find this hysterical. That's mean of me.
We love The Beach Boys and we laughed and laughed.
Ann, did you notice the pants bulges too?
Inga, I must be a homo because I noticed the pants bulges too!!! I also found the video funny but it wore off after about 60 seconds.
Wow. That is really funny. I think I'm going to have to watch it about fifty times.
Isn't humor supposed to be clever? To reveal some greater truth?
If there are more of these, I have to wonder how far this joke is supposed to go.
Oh well. First Amendment and all. The right to say anything, even if it is stupid.
In the words of rock god David St. Hubbins (a truly funny guy); "Such a fine line, between clever and stupid."
Now that Bad Lip Reading shit is hilarious, but this?
What's this got to do with SSM?
I smiled. There has been better though. Still, it's much much funnier than the very lame Jim carry anti-gun offerings today.
That was the funniest video I seen in some time. Loved the clapping.
Best Beach Boys Song...
Our Prayer.
Funny but not for very long funny.
Nowhere near as good as the worst episode of Bad Lip Reading.
Watching that made me want to lock myself in my room and drop acid.
Chirbit says "That video sucked, Althouse."
Quite funny.
Reminded me of the Shaggs, who did it better because they were dead serious.
My Pal Foot Foot - The Shaggs
@Pogo: J'adore les Shaggs!
@chickelit
I got to see the off-Broadway musical The Shaggs: Philosophy Of The World, based on their story.
It was really quite good. I understand it is now being made into a movie.
It is funny.
Hey Chickie, Ed made Carol Herman mad ?
Didn't she drive everyone mad?
Huh?
Chickie,
I wouldn't know, I wasnt regularily commenting here while she was.
"Isn't humor supposed to be clever? To reveal some greater truth?"
Sometimes a man slipping on a banana peel is just a man slipping on a banana peel.
And it's funny!
I miss Carol Herman and for that matter, Herman Carol.
It's a shame I never paid much attention to pants bulges when I was in high school. Those were great pants for it.
Their movements are mimicking a lower form of animals... but I cant say which animals... for fear that my life would be over.

But then again it might be pareidolia — the perception of meaning in "a vague and random stimulus."
"Vague and random stimulus"... not to be confused with dancing.

"Ipso Fatso said...
II also found the video funny but it wore off after about 60 seconds."
To me it was funny because they sustained the joke for the whole song.
Pogo - the Walt Kelly references... the obscure music... the misanthropy... it's like you're my lost twin or something.
Brother!!!
Funny but it gets old pretty quickly.

Contempt is a mighty perk.
It's pretty funny. Not the best of the shred videos, but pretty good. Yes the handclaps are what carries it over.
