The drawing did not depict Obama actually eating chicken or holding any in his hand, but it did depict an open-mouthed Obama with a comic strip-style word-bubble telling customers the price per pound of the product.

Depiction of the omnipotent Urkel in stereotypical and racist connotations of chicken consumption as a means to use him to proffer such a think in a free market, capitalistic way is VERBOTTEN!!! All inquests to the use of the depiction of the dear leader, imperial self monarch person must be cleared through the central planning ministry and department of truth telling headed by Valeria Jarrett.
Well, apparently Whole Foods patrons automatically associate black presidents with chicken.
I guess organic watermelons are right out.
If you can shop at Whole Foods and be outraged about a racial stereotype, you'll double your smug.
Touchy.
In the fruit part of the produce section, his signboard announces the price of watermelon.
In the vegetable part of the produce section, his signboard announces the price of collard greens.
In the bakery area, his signboard announces the price of sweet potato pie.
In the wine and beer section, his signboard announces the price of Colt 45.
At the customer service counter where you have to buy your cigarettes, his signboard announces the price of Kools.
At the checkout lanes, his signboard announces that they accept EBT cards.
Should've told 'em it was a Banksy.
At the other end of the meat department, his signboard announces the price of a big ol' bucket of chitlins.
I'm offended by the sign but that's because Obummer's draconian, anti-free market "food safety" laws. He's done nothing but harm the localvore, socially responsible food movement that Whole Foods makes so much money off of.
How undignified.
Stuff like that only goes on at places like Wal-Mart.
No one complained when Nixon did those Memorex ads.
They chickened out.
It is inappropriate to use the President's image in this way. On the other hand, I think the artist's association may well have been with the constant campaigning and Obama selling himself rather than the chicken thing.
And the chicken thing is getting rather ridiculous. I eat a lot of chicken and sometimes even fried chicken, and I am definitely a person of pallor.
Stay classy San Diego!
Praise Allah that watermelon didn't happen to be on sale that week.
When I grew up everyone ate fried chicken and watermelon. The idea that they were associated with black people was alien to me until I saw a pack of 'Dixie Boy' firecrackers. The label showed a black boy sitting on a fishing pier holding a slice of watermelon. It's really stupid to go this far. It's like that Texas politician who though that referring to a 'Black Hole' was racist.
Really, Obama or more accurately, Obama's followers, are an endless source of hilarity. My initiation into Internet political junkiedom began when I accidentally stumbled onto the Pacifica pissing match on Alternet in the late '90's. Since then the Left has provided many hours of fun, frolics, and frivolous foolishness. Thank you.
I'm guessing one customer complained and they acted on that complaint. That's the way the corporate world works now; one complaint is enough to cause concerns for a lawsuit. Due to that companies would rather not bother with legal fees and such that come with lawsuits. Blame the lawyers.
Right on cue with Easy Annie A., the Abortion-lover, 1984-ing comments by me criticizing factual black group behavior (see here:http://althouse.blogspot.com/2013/02/scott-walker-proposes-expanding-school.html),
another example by the left to try to cover any truism that may reflect poorly on blacks.
Blacks and fried chicken! no! Not true! All stereotypes about them that may be bad are false! Ignore the higher percentage of fried chicken joints in black areas than normal! Ignore the history of soul food! Hate facts aren't real facts!
Seig Heil, Mein Obama!
Mannnnnnnnnn! Don't everbody like fried chickin?
Voici la poule au pot!
I think the Obama picture would have been more appropriately placed next to the arugula.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....Zeb Colter...
At least the store didn't feature a poster of the President hawking whole, organic dog!
Everyone in New York City 'knows' that if a picture shows a black man has a chicken, he stole it.
People in the Northeast are extremely racist, but in serious denial of that fact. I could never live north of Richmond, VA.
My respect for Whole Paycheck would have increased if they'd told Mr/Ms I'm-so-Offended to shove off.
Instead of $1.99 they should just have a parabolic upward sloping curve, price over time.

The funny thing, liz. That most Notherners won't get is those foods aren't soul food. That's poor people food. White, black or indifferent. That's what poor people ate/eat.
Liberal racists are jerks.
Unless I've missed something, this placard was posted on Presidents' Day, or for all the weekend before. WFM's specials typically end on a Tuesday.
We may not associate a black president with chicken but in the future years we will associate black presidents with failure.
Obama as set back the blacks 40 years as for views of competence for they will be viewed as lazy, vain, and unable to do the job.

It's southern food. Fried chicken and watermellon are something I've had at family picnic/parties forever. It's so, so weird to think that anyone would consider, say, the black lady advertising popeyes to be racist.
Walmart-Run by one family (Christian) and controls all logistics and relentlessly knocks down prices. Good to buy in bulk. Some people in Walmart clearly don't have other options. A 1994 Ford Escort sits in the parking lot.
Whole Foods-Run by a hippieish guy, product of the 60's, who wanted 'community,' local vendors etc. Good head for business, libertarian on many issues. Higher prices. Not for everyone. A 2011 Toyota Scion sits in the parking lot.
ObamaMart-Opening soon in a food desert near you, ObamaMart is almost entirely State-run. A group of green, red, but mostly white officials (one transgender, one veteran) wait at the door to greet and direct hungry black and brown people toward the 5 voucher approved items available after another mysterious shortage.
Prices unstable. There are no cars in the parking lot, many people loitering, and fifteen banged-up segways. A voice over the loudspeakers mentions a new ObamaMart is opening across town and that ObamaMart appreciates your business.
And the chickenssss
come home

@Whore,
The spelling is "Sieg Heil!"

Damn straight. I'm not poor, never been poor. I'm a professors son. The average education of myself, parents and 5 siblings is post graduate. We all love fried chicken, grits, catfish, fried okra, pulled pork barbecue (if made how you're supposed to make it, etc.
I remember reading a story about a foreign exchange student in the South. Each Friday evening she spent the evening with and ate dinner with a different family. Beforehand, she was told that she would probably have the same meal each Friday and she would be polite and thank her host/hostess.
She had a fried chicken dinner every Friday night.
