Bill Clinton says: Do not look down on the bitter clingers.

"Do not patronize the passionate supporters of your opponents by looking down your nose at them..."
"A lot of these people live in a world very different from the world lived in by the people proposing these things... I know because I come from this world."...

"A lot of these people … all they’ve got is their hunting and their fishing... Or they’re living in a place where they don’t have much police presence. Or they’ve been listening to this stuff for so long that they believe it all."
He feels their pain...

He feels their pain, which includes feeling that they are getting looked down on, so don't let them notice, he's saying, even as he lets the big Democratic donors see that he knows just as well as they do that the bitter clingers are a bunch of losers.

Don't look down you nose at them. Whenever you eyes are trained on the bitter clingers, project feel-your-pain empathy. Save your condescension for the off-camera, off-mike back rooms.

From the article: ...saying that it was a test-case for President Barack Obama’s grass-roots movements.

Do not look down your nose at these people who don't recognize their own oxymorons.

“You have the power to really democratize America,” Clinton said. “You can do it on immigration reform, you can do it on these economic issues. You can do it on implementing the health care bill.”

But, Clinton warned, the issue of guns has a special emotional resonance in many rural states — and simply dismissing pro-gun arguments is counterproductive.

In other words, if you ever want to win again: drop the guns and back away!

I have recently been reminded, elsewhere, that my entire life has been one of resistance to authority and total distrust of government benevolence ... even though I voluntarily became part of that government. My attitude was and is pretty much if the government is for something in a big way, I'm likely against it....or at least distrust it and its sponsors.

Though I cheered the killing of Anwar al-Awlaki, delighted in fact, I suspect the method of a drone killing US citizens. Drones are secret killers, with acknowledgement only when the drone masters feel the public will like the results. All failures and mistakes are unreported....and there is the danger.

Dear Lefties: imagine your worst fears coming true. The Right takes power and becomes fascist and theocratic and oppressive.

By throwing in "fascist" there, you are are accepting the progressive narrative and their revisionism. Fascism is a brand of socialism, developed to compete with communism. The big difference between the two views of socialism is that in communism, the state owns and controls the means of production, whereas with fascism, big businesses continue to operate, but must do so in close cooperation with the state, and by doing so, they get preferential treatment. In other words, crony capitalism. In Nazi Germany, that meant getting access to cheap or free labor from the concentration camps. Under Obama, that means massive bailouts of the financial institutions that helped cause the financial crisis, but are considered too big to fail. And, with that, million dollar bonuses (along with, of course, the Dems running Fannie and Freddie at the time).

So, to simplify, Fascism is crony capital socialism backed up by thugs with rocks and clubs, and later with the barrels of guns wielded by government stormtroopers.

His wife, Hillary!, was really always a "blue stater", growing up around Chicago. But Bubba Bill does have those roots.

I think that he is warning his party that they are facing electoral Armageddon by pushing gun control, esp. after this historic victory of theirs last November. Obama isn't going to have any coattails in two years, and his epic GOTV organization will be history. All this gun control debate really does is to energize those opposed to more gun control, while possibly forcing vulnerable members of Congress to either buck their party (with all the attendant costs to them) or take a vote that could easily lose them reelection.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

That's quite the article to get the attention of our own resident Chicken Little, Chip!

Israel has a right-wing, just like the U.S. does. But for the most part their economists seem to not be under the thumb of social welfare-hating sociopaths, as is the situation in the U.S.

Whatever realistic challenges are foreseen, I'm sure they'll deal with them more intelligently and humanely than the likes of Rand Paul and Paul Ryan would.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Oh, sorry. I spoke too soon. The problem you brought up is well-known. The ultra-orthodox (hardly left-wingers) are subsidized to engage in nothing but daily bible study, and this is even extended to an exemption from joining the military - an otherwise universal right of passage there.

The Arab citizens also get this exemption, although one would think without subsidy, and the resulting problem is that an institution crucial for introducing individuals to the networks and system of merit upon which further economic advancement and employment is based, is bypassed.

Suffice it to say, this problem (at least among the religious) is universally reviled among Israeli liberals and moderates, and ripe for overhaul. But political momentum is currently not in their favor.

The situation is analogous to the U.S., where the right-wingers who bitch the most about social welfare programs are still some of its biggest recipients. It's like the tax write-offs given to religious institutions in the U.S. on steroids.

So the parallel backfires on American right-wingers, actually. It is the Israeli left and center who would end that in a heartbeat.

Conscripting Arabs is a trickier problem but one that probably must be done anyway.

Chip S. said...

I dunno, Rimo. I thought that Israeli economist sounded a lot like Mitt Romney in camera:

"On the one hand, we have this state-of-the-art part of the economy. Then there is the rest of the country that is like a huge drag."

What worries Ben-David most is that the nonproductive part of Israel's population, which survives largely on welfare, is also the fastest growing.

If it's sociopathic to think that reforming old-age entitlements is a good idea, then Australia, Sweden, and a bunch of other countries are governed by sociopaths.

Israel has a culture that values blunt, tough talk and not bullshitting each other about what people really think. I believe it works for them because they also lack these callous American notions about how not caring for others is a required, manly sign of rugged individualism or something. They are not ashamed of being a society that has the compassion to clearly care for itself and its system of universal health access is yet another sign that American right-wingers would prefer to look past in acknowledging that.

Americans prefer to butter up their words and blow sunshine up the asses of whomever they think needs the most ass-kissing. Israelis work hard enough and see clearly enough to not have a problem calling out those whom they deem as lazy. Life in a dynamic, close-knit population of less than 10 million will do that for you, whereas Americans don't even know what's going on next-door.

Reforming anything in no way means sociopathy. Making something as efficient as it is effective is fine. The problem is American right-wingers who use the promise of the former as a guise for doing away with the latter.

Well, at the risk of my "engendering hatred" by answering your serious question - as the Hall Monitor would put it - I don't know how easy that is. One way would be associations. Another way would be the willingness to engage in self-criticism. Alan Simpson criticizes Republicans and served on a bipartisan commission with Ernie (or whoever) Bowles to address budgeting in a serious, long-term way.

Unfortunately, the passion and arguments too often merge with the noise. The fact is that Republicans have political concerns as well as governing concerns, and it's not too clear how they've decided to distinguish between them - assuming they have.

Gerrymandering has made the only competition for safe (R) seats to be how partisan-conservative/ideological you need to be in a primary. Not a great way to encourage effective government under a non-one party state.

Unfortunately it looks like the only answer is the political shift that I see currently occurring back to the left wing. These shifts appear to occur in 40-year cycles. The push to take on serious spending and infrastructure challenges will come from and be carried out by the left, with the right-wing slowly reforming itself into a less silly caricatured opposition with which the party that cares about the government it's elected to represent can actually work. Much like as it occurred during the height of the state that FDR built from the 1940s through the 1950s.

If Republicans want to avoid that fate and long-term minority status, then they can get serious about addressing the reform of programs that are as effective as they are efficient and stop letting Rush Limbaugh call the shots for converting them into a party that is more concerned with power and propaganda than with the effectiveness of its policies.

Not being a ridiculous Hall Monitor of comments threads, which is what you specialize in.

Ritmo
None of you represent serious thought at all. That's the point. You all love the brawl. It's too tedious to filter through the garbage to find a valid point.
The difference is that everyone but Ritmo at some point emerge as real people I might enjoy a face to face conversation with. Ritmo makes me want to hate him. I don't hate him, but I sure want to.
Shouting Thomas has Ritmo figured out.

Shouting Thomas said...

Inga, we can disagree, and we often do, quite vehemently, but I can tell that you are a likeable, enjoyable person.

There's none of that in Ritmo.

He's just a stewing, paranoid awful mess.

Anonymous said...

No Wyo Sis, ST doesn't have Ritmo figured out. You couldn't be more wrong.

Unknown said...

So, Inga, fill me in on the real Ritmo.

I wonder if "sociopath" and "sociopathic" are currently the Hive's trendy put-down du jour. I notice that the left-wing cartoonist Tom Tomorrow seems to apply it regularly to anyone who dissents from the statist party-line. Apparently, to "liberals" (and by that I mean of course coercion-addicted, tax-happy State fellators), a "sociopath" is anyone who believes his life and property belong to himself and not the Hive.

ST, you bring out the worst in people when you bring out the worst in yourself.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Chip disagrees with you, wyo. So does Traditional Guy and a good number of conservatives who are done with this place.

Let me know when you become a "real" enough person to address the reform of entitlements and spending in the serious way that I guess Chip must also be too "unreal" to discuss.

Anonymous said...

Wyo Sis, maybe if you quit comparing him to your brother in law and get to know what he's about, you'll be surprised.

Unknown said...

Ritmo
No, you let me know when you are here in good faith by not following the standard Ritmo process of suddenly appearing, flinging poo, making attacks, sounding like a baby, displaying your ass, and finally settling down to a discussion with someone, usually Chip S who has the patience to suffer through your insanity until you deign to try to make a point.

Shouting Thomas said...

Inga, I think you're engaging in the traditional female behavior (which I find commendable) of finding some good in everybody.

I can't see anything in Ritmo. Nothing.

He spends his time imagining hideous thoughts for other people and imputing those thoughts to them. Sometime, he goes even further and imagines crimes which he then assigns to people he doesn't know.

He's a fuming, paranoid rabid dog.

Unknown said...

I compare him to my brother in law because he acts like my brother in law, a diagnosed narcissist.

Anonymous said...

Wyo sis, Chip S. has the intellect to recognize it in others.

Hysterical.

Remember, this:

O Ritmo Segundo said...
The push to take on serious spending and infrastructure challenges will come from and be carried out by the left,

Is serious!

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Inga can be the interlocutor here. I'm not sure how much interest I have in getting personal on this thread (as opposed to being "real", the meaning of which sounds much more vague). And armchair/amateur psychiatry holds as much appeal to me as does armchair quantum mechanics. But I guess what they hate is that I can brawl and jibe and discuss issues seriously and I think they hate that combination.

Maybe they're not used to that and need to know if someone like that can exist IRL.

Unknown said...

I'm not arguing about his intellect. I'm stating a valid opinion based on his behavior in this forum.

Baron Zemo said...

Hello....is anyone there...Buellar?

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

I am Baron. I've become the topic of the thread!

Wyo believes that this must somehow appeal to me, or it would if her "thesis" were correct.

It's like being in the chair of a dentist, though. A dentist who can't find a cavity after a year of eating nothing but sweets and not brushing my teeth.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

But a dentist who still loves the drill.

Shouting Thomas said...

But I guess what they hate is that I can brawl and jibe and discuss issues seriously and I think they hate that combination.

Ritmo, no. You're the usual PC idiot.

Like I said, I get the dozens of alternet graphic blasts every day on FB.

You keep going back to politics. Like I said, you're too damned stupid and deranged for a political discussion.

The only thing that interests me about you is why in the hell you project such a bizarrely hateable personna. People must want to kick you in the balls within minutes of meeting you.

Anonymous said...

Baron has become the thread monitor now, calling for Meade and his deletion tool? Who are you seeking Baron?

Shouting Thomas said...

I thought you were doing a good job as monitor, Inga.

You've got that helper/empathy thing that works so well in the nursing biz.

Unknown said...

ST
Inga also has that hectoring thing that appears in between the coaxing down to a science. Mad nursing skilz.

Christopher said...

I just assume all politicians hate the average individual, it helps explain most of their actions.

Well ST, it appears you all need to kiss and makeup. You first ST, give Ritmo a hug, come on, I know you can do it :)

I think if you ever met him he'd be quiet and shy.

Anonymous said...

Hey! Lets talk about Chip S. he is soooo mysterious.

Shouting Thomas said...

I am trying to give the little bastard a hug, Inga!

He just keeps begging me to kick him in the nuts.

Anonymous said...

Well hug his nuts instead.

Clinton said that an National Rifle Association lobbyist threatened him over his veto in the state house, saying that the group would cause problems for his upcoming presidential campaign in rural states like Texas.

“Right there in the lobby,” Clinton said. “They thought they could talk to governors that way.

The nerve of him, thinking he could talk to politicians like that!

Lydia said...

Hi, Ritmo.

It's such a relief to know that you really haven't much interest "in getting personal on this thread". This is a going-forward thing, right?

Best,
Lydia
(the person you called a "shriveled and desiccated" wannabe whore yesterday)

Anonymous said...

Oh Lydia, don't feel bad, I've been called an old shriveled whore so many times on this blog I can't keep count.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

ST has always made me fear that a hug from him would result in suffocation. Or strangulation. But I'm game for being proved wrong.

Anonymous said...

Ah, it would do Mama Inga's heart good to see her two favorite boys getting along.

Shouting Thomas said...

... old shriveled whore... is almost a compliment on the internet!

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Lydia, if you want an apology then there should be ample material to work with in the aftermath and analysis of that comment yesterday on the same thread.

Which, as Inga will confirm, is more than what most of these tough guys have tended to give her in the past for similar language.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Well, in the spirit of unity and sexual degradation, I think we can all find comfort in the words of Ali G. - who, when addressing one of Harvard's graduating classes, said:

NO matter whether black, white, brown, or Pakistani, we all come from the same place...

The punani.

Unknown said...

Well, well, we seem to be to the acting like a baby part of our program.

Anonymous said...

ST, I may be old, but I'm still juicy. And I'm sure Lydia is not at all shriveled!

Unknown said...

Nope, it's showing our ass time.

Anonymous said...

You first Wyo, come on drop those bloomers!!

Unknown said...

Too late, Inga Ritmo got there first, followed closely by, guess who?

Shouting Thomas said...

So, have we achieved Kumbaya?

Anonymous said...

Yeah, pass the doobie.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Yes -

But there's only one thing missing.

Jay must rejoin the circle of reconciliation, foregiveness and love.

Only Inga has the power to call him back from the bushes, where he hides and looks on upon this display, furiously masturbating.

I hope that wasn't too mean a joke to make.

Anonymous said...

Shhhh Ritmo, let's just leave Jay in the bushes, as long as he's busy he won't bother anyone.

Guildofcannonballs said...

I come here for the fights.

Now, let's you and him fight!

You fight real good now, ya hear.

Baron Zemo said...

This thread is an exact parallel to the "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills."

Shouting Thomas is Brandi Granville.
Ritmo is Kyle Richards.
Wyo sis is Lisa Vanderpump.
And the execrable Inga is Taylor Armstrong.

But it is nowhere as entertaining as the original. Just sayn'

Anonymous said...

See what I mean Lydia? Baron just called me excrement.

Every dollar spent by Big Gas and Big Oil results in an economic benefit of $6.32 and fewer dead Americans due to lack of funding for terrorists.

This means taxing Big Gas and Big Oil, what libs do but want to do in a singular often punitive fashion, is killing Americans by arming our enemies.

It is also the cause of the recession as the money go toward areas with low economic impact such as fat government workers.

One thing Clinton said (not excerpted by Ann) is that he tried to help -- and didn't, enough -- the Democrats in the House & Senate keep their seats. Can you imagine that thought even crossing Obama's mind? He, who is keeping Organize for Action f/k/a Organize for America all to himself instead of helping his party.

Anyway, why aren't the 49ers running the pistol offense?
