In a sport where one game can force a rules change... a first is tantamount to a hill of beans.

But... maybe thats why is popular... and I dont get it.

Johnny Heisman.

Hopefully, he's smarter than Theismann and more scrupulous than OJ.

He looks like a psychopath to me. Though I'm sure he's just an All-American boy who would have fit well in the Marines. But congrats to him on his achievement.

Go Patriots... Tom Brady is the second coming.

Should not the title be "Freshman Wins Hiesman"?

I just hope he stays healthy.

I've seen a few of his games. He's pretty amazing, can't think of a comparison as a freshman. Learn to like him and appreciate his skills -or- revel in the joy of negativity and defensive pessimism.

He does look a little like a Jewish Boy Scout. A really, really, really quick one with NFL grade field vision and an accurate arm.

He's 20 years old. Fine season, but he's not even the youngest winner.

I lived in Texas for about twenty years. Going in I had no college preference but it was hard to go for the Aggies, it was a bit weird even by college football standards. Manziel is a good football player and deserving of the award.

I have a feeling he is gonna be a wash-out, long term.

Te'o lost because he is a Mormon, Polynesian, Eagle Scout, but most of all a defensive player. And you wonder why linebackers hate quarterbacks.

Whooooop! Gig 'em, Aggies!

Whoop!

Whoop! First Freshman to win the Heisman and now a mention by Althouse. That's really some day for Johnny. And A&M creates one more tradition, a Heisman winner named John.

I'm guessing he would have gone with the nickname Johnny Blood if it weren't already taken. Johnny Blood used the alias so he could play college football on Saturday and pro football on Sunday.

I just watched two highlight films of Johnny Manziel on YouTube. The first one shows him rushing like a very fast, very talented halfback over and over again. I asked aloud, "But can he throw?" Then they showed some throwing clips. Oh, boy! It's a joy to watch.

He also got mugged.

The Heisman highlight reel says it all. One amazing play after another after another after another after another after another after another, etc.,

Plays against Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl. Only one I'll be watching besides Alabama-Notre Dame. God, BCCS sucks! A four team playoff will be good, an eight team even better: six good matchups in December culminating in New Years Day championshop game. The tv revenues alone make the mind boggle!

Jordan Lynch of Northern Illinois had a better season, but got 0 Heisman votes.

If A&M loses to 'Bama, Manziel finishes third or fourth in the voting.

Alan said...

But A&M didn't lose to Bama, and they beat Bama because of the outstanding play of Johnny Manziel. If you watched *all* of his games, there's no way you'd put up Jordan Lynch against him.

Just watch him play--for entire games. He makes things happen that just shouldn't.
