Oh my. Some serious euphemizing going on here.

I somehow think the shades of Rodgers and Hammerstein, the Gershwins, and Cole Porter are not concerned.
PS I think he means built, wrt Miss Telford.
A musical with a healthy dose of cynicism
I always thought Julie Andrews was too old to play Maria. She seems more like Miss Jane Hathaway than Maria.
Hasn't cynicism, or at least an unsunny view of things, as pioneered by Stephen Sondheim, been an integral part of many musicals for decades?
And I fully expect Milwaukee to easily exceed Salzburg as a setting. To about the same degree Telford will Andrews.
I was hoping someone would rip the scab off the Spice Girls and reveal the oozing pus beneath. We'll have to wait for a later generation to tell the dark truth about this so called pop singing group.
I always thought Bulgakovs' The Master and Margarita would make a nice musical. Staged in Chicago. The political corruption there is truly satanic.

I recall seeing a similarly produced (and excellent) staging of the show in August 1989.
I noted the unique timing that, while on stage the von Trapp family was leaving Austria to escape a German dictator, the East Germans were traveling from Hungary into Austria to escape a[n East] German dictator.
Her (with Dawn French) satirical music videos skewering Madonna, Bjork and Alanis Morisette etc. are absolutely hysterical. And though Posh Spice has appeared on Ab Fab, I expect her to do the same to the Spice Girls. I don't think a musical can be made without a healthy dose of cynicism - especially if you're relying on Spice Girls music. A musical that takes itself too seriously would be unwatchable.
